Hello, I’ve been lurking on here for a while and have been encouraged by the advent of several new members, as well as enjoying some of the OT discussions on Art &c. I encountered K very briefly when she visited Cannes some years ago. Latterly she was in touch with my uncle Vasi who happens to be a retired barometer dealer. With her predilection towards ‘golden age thinking’ she was hoping that, in return for a mention on one of her vlogs, my uncle would give her an antique barometer so that she could stop consulting her iphone for the weather forecast. I must admit that I had a little crush on K for a while and followed her to Rome, but she was only interested in a rich guy with a scarlet and black Lamborgini who could wine and dine her at La Pergola. Anyhow, I am happy to find this group and trust my insights and contributions may be of some small value.

Hi all,

Lurker here... or rather it just took me an extrodinary time to catch up.

I'm an expat living in Asia (Korea), which is why I think Kylie's videos were recommended to me. I clicked on one about how to fund a life abroad because as someone who has done/is doing that, I was curious what it would be like in Europe versus Asia, but right away I was so put off.

Like many of you, I found the lack of negative/critiquing comments astounding, so decided to look elsewhere to see if others felt the same... I immediately found this forum, and just can't resist jumping in.

I am most offended my the claims of "loving opera, classical music, art, and literature", Kylie's superiority about her extensive knowledge on these topics, and ultimately her failure to even mention a single artwork, piece of music, or book that she has read.

By contast, the conversations about food, travel, and art have been so fascinating here!

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to add to the conversation, but just wanted to show my support. Have a great day!

KyLie must be reading here as she already has an inserted note in the latest slog saying she hasn’t pressed the hideous green sack because she was out with ‘friends until 4am’ (Guido’s of course!) 🙄

‘I’m a creative and an artist! Guido is grumpy and a procrastinator,’ so says thé always immodest KyLie in this week’s flog. She really does have tickets on herself🙈 All of her titles are self-proclaimed but based on no real professional work. She has as much right to claim she is an ‘artist’ as she does ‘journalist.’

Just watching a program on CNN about how social media types are presenting a dishonest view of themselves, they present “their best life” which is unrealistic; not reality, just a portrayal, which can be damaging to those who become convinced their own lives don’t match up. Certainly this is what we can see in her comment section, at least those comments left standing.
To be honest, anyone who is selling their life on the internet or tv or even in a book is probably not portraying the downsides of what they experience in their actual lives. There are a few exceptions of genuine people out there, but they are few and far between.

I'm not sure if I'm more bothered that people are willing to be fake or omit parts of their lives to make money or that people are willing to engage with these people online as if they are being completely forthright. I have never been a big fan of reality shows and the like for this reason.

I think the real danger with social media and things like YouTube careers that are funded by patrons is the parasocial aspect of the relationship. The creators feel indebted to their patrons and the patrons feel as if they own or have some say in what that creator is doing. As opposed to a tv channel or program funded by ad revenue or producers... the producers are influenced by fans and money, but fans usually don't directly interact with the people making that show.

Anyway, that line that protects both creators/content makers and the viewers/consumers of their media doesn't exist with things like YouTube, tiktok, or patreon where there is direct contact and expectations on both ends.

Re: Kylie - I think the elements of fantasy life in Italy are lovely if you take it at face value (see every travel or food show based in Italy)... the second you move into telling fans that they too can achieve "their dream of moving to Italy", you're both lying about what you actually did (loads of evidence of this among the messages here, but lacking in her actual comments section) and encouraging people to make uninformed decisions. They're also seeing her as a "friend in Italy" rather than a person who is giving information about life in Italy. It is dangerous for both parties in this type of transaction I think.

Well the Freeloading Flavells (sorry @PlinyinTorquay but they are) continue to try and earn their keep renovating the Purse’s family properties😳

It’s so bizarre that KyLie has now become an addendum to Guido’s life, living on his coat tails and making her slogs entirely about someone else’s life and property, while she is along for the ride.

KyLie is not a ‘creative’ as she is always copying other people and now she is basically making blogs about the Purse’s villas and renovations that don’t really have anything to do with her...

She’s inhabiting someone else’s life like those Hermit Crabs that take another crab’s shell and borrow it to live in😅

Little Miss Busy Bee up with the lark toiling away while Guido gets his grumpy self up 3 hours later after breakfast in bed. Mess in outhouse which makes G even grumpier when he passes by is cleaned up by Mummy with her adage "Tidy house, tidy mind"and creative artist daughter. The way this video is skewed is really insulting & pathetically narcky - she never moves on from herself - never, ever.
'O my gosh' 'O my gosh' again and again at cupboard linings etc @Alessandro as you so aptly reported" , O my gosh what a show of ignorance & housewifely staging. Now she has caught her man she can throw on an unironed dress (can't resist the out to 4am comment can she?) Btw @emm I think marriage was more about security, financial & otherwise than children.
If I couldn't comment here, there's no way I would have watched this preening vlog. Again UNSUFFERABLE !#*

She got dinged in the comments last week, but this week is not much different. I'm not very conservative or old school as many of you might gather from my posts. 😉 But I do agree it seems weird to post this now and I knew some of her subs would not understand the timelines as they don't pay attention. The accent comment is just funny. 😂

“hard not to fantasise about being a hooker” is just really depressed and depressing thinking …off her rocker she certainly was , so by now her rocker must be smashed up on the terracotta waxed floor, I’m really not a fan of rocking chairs
The more I think about it, it makes me angrier. If she has paid any attention to the plight of actual prostitutes, not the Pretty Woman types in films or "sugar babies/ high priced escorts" she wouldn't dream about it. She's sickening in her ignorance and superficiality. Does she realise that most are foreign girls taken complete advantage of? No. To her they are Sophia Loren and Julia Roberts. 🙄 I want to shake some sense in her. She's "Me, Myself and I", never mind others and their lives. Whatever adds to her stupid, phoney cinematic life!
And who thought publishing that was a good idea?

@Antonio I know, I can't keep track of the properties. It seems to be that rental house, as you mentioned, since she went on and on how spacious it was and good for hosting workshops and all of that lol.

The term High Class Escort has many interpretations & so why doesn't she add it to the list after drone pilot? Scrounging & grifting in return for favours of acting out all the fake luurve.

At what point do these comments get deleted?
I KNEW I read this somewhere and your post led me to go search. From her "Why can't life be a Bertolucci film?" article. She's ridiculous.

I see that I'm very late to the party but KF is a topic that I have mused on for the better part of 5 years, with no one to discuss with except my partner.

She is so 'mysterious', she presents a certain image (to which I related to a lot of it) but it doesn't ring true and she was never transparent about basic details that it drove me nuts.

My 2 cents:

- As mentioned throughout these threads she has always presented herself as an introvert, a sensitive person, someone with a history of being bullied, yet she would film herself running around, inserting herself in conversations with strangers (always men) in low cut tops, bikinis, etc. It didn't add up.
- She was never transparent about how she made a living in Italy. She would do these Q&A types videos where she would encourage others to follow their dreams and move to Italy but never really how she could afford her lifestyle there. She eventually mentions that she taught English just like every other regular expat but this took some time to get to and there was no detail other than she thought herself better than the other tutors. Her apartments always looked fancy and lovely, but how? She was a YouTuber, struggling to get by, pitching to companies who never replied, being taken advantage of etc.
- She would run around with designer items, I remember specifically a pair of Ted loafers and I think a Chanel bag. If what she was saying was true, how does she afford such things?
- Her age! The timeline she talked of didn't add up! Her fashion sense reminds me of when I was young in the 90's with the headbands and A-line skirts etc, she seems to be my age but she has led people to believe she is 10 years younger.
- Once she started trying to create the fashion line with her sister I really started to feel like this was some aspirational s**t. Completely unrelatable, bizarre, why do all these types of people always need to end up a fashion designer?
- The no sleeping, sleeping for 3/4 hours. It's so wild to me that she would glamorise not sleeping in the way she does. If it were true, that could be enough to send someone's mental health to a dark place.
- She used to talk a lot about how healthy she ate and all of her workouts and she was very thin. Always super tanned. All the shots of her rail thin abs. I felt it bordered on some kind of eating disorder/ body dysmorphia.
- Petty but I also believe she has had a breast augmentation. Many people in Sydney/ Australia have, you get used to the look of it. Her teeth are also extremely 'perfect', they're lovely but she has had something done there too. All of that is perfectly fine but she presents this image that is trying too hard to be so far away from that, I find it disingenuous.
- I have written and commented on her posts many times over the past 5 years or so and she has never once replied. Even in the very early days when he followers all seemed to be men from India. This is in contrast to all the other Italophile and Italian expats I follow and chat with. I know that she does reply to messages and even meet up with people from IG so it's obvious that she is monitoring these messages and deciding who is worth replying to, or not. I have seen another IG Italian expat with a large following try to get in touch with her and mention that she doesn't reply. I read here that Nicki Positano experienced the same.

I tried to play one of her videos for my mum recently as she is renovating her bathroom. I realised as I was playing it, it was really embarrassing! Sexualised and weird fake voice and lip biting, giggling, weird baby voice and clenched jaw when talking to Guido. I had to turn it off as it was just too embarassing.

I get that with Kylie she is intentionally trying to sell 'la dolce vita' and a certain image and that's why she does most of these things. But it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. All the lies around her age and her financial status, once you realise she must be from a wealthy family, she is making bucketloads on Patreon, it's so alienating.

Thanks for letting me get all that out.

Oh the moral dilemma, the burden of responsibility, no wonder Saint Kyles can't get a good night's sleep.

Classic narcissist trait, posing a question as a guise to boast, again, about herself. Also flattering her fans to keep them on board. "We're not like the rest" mentality coming from someone who for years has photographed herself in front of beautiful landscapes, buildings etc. It's also such a rambling mess, does she even read over what she writes before she posts?

"Then I read a letter from someone in a hospital bed..."
Do you know what is pathetic? She throws out the "And then someone wrote me from hospital..." for good measure anytime she needs to remind the masses how Saintly she is. She has mentioned it in some videos, she's replied to comments as such, and now IG. Anyone else recall her rant-reply to the person suggesting 2020 wasn't a Year of Joy for most Italians, and Kylie had the balls to say covid patients were writing her from their hospital beds thanking her?! Mah!

Hahaha @Denise0211 😅 Kylie has obviously made her YouTube once more a space only for cringe-making sycophancy and got rid of all the rest. She must have a very long list of blockees🙄

Hère is KyLie at her most ‘real’, talking about how pleased she is her neighbors in Rome think she is a ‘high class escort’, how she has no électricity and no loo for a month (I just don’t believe it) and she has to use thé local bar until some guy offers her his luxurious ‘exquisite flat’ to live in: ‘Stay as long as you like bella’ 🙄how she has to live on ‘tinned tuna and charity’ from her local ‘amourous greengrocer’ because she left her ‘six figure salary’ job in Australia...🙈

Her playing povvo is just disgusting. Does she not know that prostitution is not a choice for many people? Of course it was a high-class prostitute she was mistaken for, let's be sure that she'd never be your average alley-variety crack whore. Given keys to an empty apartment by a man who "took pity" on her; there are people in housing need pleased to have any sort of roof over their head, it needn't be "exquisite". How can she not see how this reads?

Also, this thing she has against "tourists" is really annoying. Whether she likes it ir not, when she visits a new place....say, Portofino or the Dolomites, she is still a tourist herself.

It isn't as if the masses are coming off a cruise ship to visit these little Tuscan towns for 6 hours. She's so odd.

As we know, Kylie's education was scant - home schooled for a period & college consisted of a New Realism Italian film course, probably done in modules online while she was abroad, Spain, Italy etc so all her self-taught filming was based ONLY on these films. She took all the camera angles, scenes, costumes, accents and even copious inserts in her Sicily vlogs from them. So nothing creative there or ever in spite of calling herself film creator, etc & film producers accused her of lying that she did it all alone. It is a lie because she had Rossellini, De Sica & Visconti to copy shamelessly. In fact that is her one big talent - copying - copying accents, filming, taking on different characters, aping mannerisms - you name it she can do it.
.

So the Italian dolce vita is a veneer that she envelops herself in and no more

My apologies for the radio silence during this past week. I have had professional engagements in Oman with wall-to-wall meetings and patchy internet connectivity during my downtime. I stayed in Muscat for much of my visit, attending a conference on New Species of Arabian Freshwater Fish in Oman. You will see from the attached photographs that I was in auspicious company. The week culminated in intense (but ultimately successful) negotiations with Omani Fisheries for permission to sell canned Emperor Bream fillets in the county of Cornwall.

It looks like there’s plenty of material to catch up with on here, including Kylie’s latest video and discussion over a review she wrote for Romeing on La Grande Bellezza. I did manage to catch her short Instagram film from the departure lounge of Muscat International Airport, where I saw the signature midriff. Whatever we say, I firmly believe it’s an essential part of Kylie’s personal aesthetic; she will continue to expose her enviably toned abs. long into her dotage, providing she doesn’t overindulge on the cannoli siciliani.

Looking forward to catching up anon. Missed you all.

Gaius Plinius Secundus

p.s. For those of us looking to boost our B12 and selenium reserves, does anyone think smoked mackerel pâté might work as an alternative filling, instead of the customary ricotta confection, for cannoli?

On one hand I want to shrug at this because I've absolutely been to multiple restaurants with extensive water menus - including one that offered a tasting flight with a "water sommelier" and another with a 45 page water menu.

However, on the other hand, you absolutely have to go into experiences like that with some irony and for a laugh. I also feel the same for Michelin star restaurants. If you go with family or friends who are very into food or just have great senses of humor if they aren't it's so much fun. Otherwise save it for special occasions like a birthday or anniversary. I would dip out on someone who wanted to take me to any Michelin starred restaurant on the first date (in fact, I have straight up ghosted a few people that did this because it weirded me out so much). I know this can come off as snobby but there is a particular vulgarity in both flashing about in a sportscar to a multi-Michelin star place on the regular and aspiring to that as Kylie did. Unrepentant gold digging & excessive consumerism is never cute - nor is it "cinematic". Unless you consider Michael Bay or Sofia Coppola movies cinema...

@HenriBeyle as others have said you truly dodged a bullet there, although I'm sorry you had to go through the experience in the first place

That dress(?) has got to be a joke.
Now now, according to Kylie you must just be "envious" you never went to those tacky parties filled with gold diggers and conspicuous consumption. 🤣

I just remembered one of her IG posts or stories at New Years, the first with Guido anyway. She said they all partied and danced til the wee hours in some villa, then the next day drove to someone's beach home in the Maremma. I imagine she perhaps thought her life of parties would have continued. But then the pandemic hit, and she likely noticed Guido overall doesn't seem to be a party type and most of his friends have kids. I can't help but laugh, thinking her switch to Matronly Lady of the Manor happened not out will, but a new role to play for content.

appalling to sit across from at a dinner party
Kyles would have her camera out filming bizarre , indiscriminate details that mean little to the vast majority of people who have no OCD. They are the couple who would kick each other under the table if one of them says the wrong thing 😬

Ooh yeah, that and the one about helping suicidal teenagers  .

I seem to have missed her lecture on neorealist cinema but if it was anything like the one she did on contemporary art a month or so ago I should count myself lucky
