I like to imagine her finishing her productive day-in-the-life vlog with 'have a productive week everyone', shutting the camera down, then ripping her cardigan off, necking a vodka redbull, snorting lines off her study planner and twerking to trap music in her bedroom

Heya, I never usually write on here but I'm currently studying English at Exeter so can provide a bit of insight! We do 2 modules per term, and each module is pretty big (30 credits) so she's doing the normal amount! However, she 100% overworks herself - it's really not necessary to do the amount of reading and note-taking that she does. People typically just read the set texts for the week (plus some secondary reading) and come to seminars prepared for a discussion rather than making extensive amounts of notes before then! Most people have more than enough time to do well in their degree, plus join societies and have a busy social life, so no need for her 15hr study days haha. Also, some of my friends have been in seminars with her and apparently she's quite nice (if a little precocious) but mostly keeps to herself and seems more keen to chat with the professor than socialise with her peers. People who lived in her first year halls have also said that she constantly made noise complaints, which honestly doesn't surprise me! I think she's a nice person but she's VERY sheltered, and her videos are absolutely not an accurate depiction of what uni life is like. It's kind of become a meme among Exeter students that the uni sponsors her 😂😂

Sorry I’m just going to say it.
She needs to grow up.

I think her parents baby her, she is a 20 year old. A young ADULT.
At her age I was pregnant with my second child, had my home, engaged, studying and worked part time. Maybe I grew up far too quickly, but I can guarantee even as a teenager I would not be asking my mother to film me dancing around dressed up as a character.
Why not let Ruby have some fun? It's not the end of the world that she has 'childish' interests or that her family is supportive. It may seem weird for someone who grew up as quickly as you did but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

In fairness to Ruby she's 20 (21?) and living away from home during a global pandemic. I know some people might be completely fine with doing that but for others it's actually not ideal, particularly if your mental health isn't great (which Ruby has said hers isn't before). I'm a 24 year old student doing my second degree and I'm homesick sometimes despite having not lived permanently at home for years. It's also worse at the moment because I went home during lockdown (the first one) and so now have to readjust to being alone again (I live alone).

I know some people are very independent and can totally cope with living alone (and we don't know that her flatmate hasn't gone home, prompting this!) but others can't and I think it's a bit unfair to criticise her so heavily. I know this is a Tattle site but sometimes I think people forget that everyone is different and if she's not breaking rules or whatever then it's kind of an unnecessary criticism. I also know that a fair few of us on here are a bit older than Ruby and might do well to remember what it was like to be 20.

Hate to stereotype but maybe the confidence is a private school confidence thing? As a state schooler at a Russel group you can usually tell who went to private school and who didn’t based on their interactions with you/the lecturers

I agree with the people who think the criticism is a bit unfair. Ruby was clearly very anxious, hadn’t even been into a shop through lockdown and admitted that she was getting into previous ocd tendencies with her hand washing again. If she went home for her mental health then I don’t think it’s fair to question whether or not she could’ve sucked it up. She’s the only one who’ll know what might push her mental health over the edge.

Saying that, I’m really sorry to all the students on this thread. You are all doing amazing, however you’re handling it 💚

Tbh I don’t like her, I think she overly romanticizes being middle class too much and its just not very appealing and a bit cringe to watch.

Plus she blocked me for asking if she voted brexit on her insta live

There's plenty of problematic things about Ruby, her obsession with controlling things (which is what her "organisation" mindset screams to me), the message her older videos (15 day study days for example) send to young viewers and her obsession with productivity all come to mind. But I don't think the criticism of her style of dress is valid. Yes it's vintage inspired and feminine and preppy, but she's clearly grown up in a lot of ways since her earlier videos, and I don't really think it's our place to determine how a 20 year old "should" dress.
Edit: (posted too soon) Criticising an outfit on the grounds it really doesn't suit her, that's one thing, but criticising her personality judging by her clothes is a bit much I think.

I don’t hate ruby but the fact that she’s being paid to promote the rules when the government is just letting covid go out of control. Imagine accepting money from the tories to tell people the rules that even the government aren’t following themselves. I think it’s completely wrong especially with the latest free school meals and Manchester controversies to do with money

Ruby is one of the best examples of why it is important to work smarter, not harder.

I personally don't think her going home reflects her privilege. It's a shame there are students who won't be able to, for whatever reason but Ruby should not be made to feel guilty as that is not her fault. When I was at uni, my student loads covered my rent meaning I wasn't spending any of my own money on it, it was the same with a lot of people I knew. She may be paying for a place she's currently not staying in but that doesn't mean she's wasting her own money, thats what student loans are for. Some students at various unis were forced to rent somewhere despite classes being fully remote otherwise they couldn't enroll, how do we know she wasn't promised some in person teaching which changed to fully remote?

I'm sure a lot of people posting here, if given the option and the means just like Ruby has atm would go home to be with family during all of this. I know I would.

We don't know if she moved to uni in the first place because she thought she could handle it, has struggled with the isolation aspect of it or the anxiety of being in a big city (she's rural to be fair) and has decided for her mental health it was better off her living at home instead. The list of things that could have happened it endless tbh but until she clarifies why I don't think it's fair to call her immature or privileged and to make her feel guilty for going home.

^As someone who was on the old GG thread, I’m pretty sure several people suspected the reddit post was written by someone on GG, especially because of the mice - people were convinced her keeping snacks in her room would invite them in, there was a whole page of back-and-forth conversation about it. Everything written on Reddit was talked about on GG. Ruby never mentioned anything about mice.

I mean, there’s a poster there who was oddly obsessed with her, and even made an odd comment that she shouldn’t show the quiet areas in Exeter she went to because she’d be inviting...something bad to happen to her. I’m pretty sure someone was trying to prove a point.

EDIT: Speculation on the reddit post was on page 30 of Part 2...and mice speculation was on page 29.

As a state schooler who went to an RG I’ve found this to be true! As I’ve gone through uni and into the workplace I’ve really realised how key confidence is and it honestly makes all the difference having been supported in your school life because those things stick with you.

I built my confidence during uni and in jobs I’ve had since and during but I’ve got close friends who went to boarding school and those who went to private and they just have a confidence when applying for jobs they’re (sorry!) not qualified for, going for promotions, questioning tutors at uni, bosses at work... they believed they could be or do anything and more times than not they’ve got the promotion or new job because they know how to sell themselves and BE confident- they’re doing amazingly career wise because they had the confidence to go for it.

I’m not saying it’s as black and white as that (also not having a go at anyone, just noting what I saw) but at my crappy state school no teacher ever told me I could even go to uni (I now have two degrees and have had a good career so far too). I could talk about this all day but just goes to show the advantages and privileges people have without even knowing it.

Hi All!
I genuinely love Ruby- I think that out of all the StudyTubers she has developed the most and right now seems to be quite sorted and content with some solid friends a great degree. In comparison to jade and jack who seem to not be able to get over oxford, Ruby is doing really well. I really think her prospects are better than them as she’s constantly growing without it trying to be relevant to what’s trendy. She’s drawn away from the Hermione thing and, having met her, she is the nicest most adorable person ever. In her videos, she really owns the Edwardian style and I can understand it not being everyone’s cup of tea but she isnt trying to be qUirKy about it, just expressing her interests, and seems to be doing really well- most importantly moving on from Oxford!!

On her latest video around the 7 min mark she wrote notes on what to ask her tutor on feedback (on an essay she got a 1st) and I quote:

“You say my conclusion doesn’t add up with my thesis statement, but I feel it does.”

Then goes on to cite examples of how the tutor is wrong.

I’m assuming she’s going to word it nicely to her tutor but that comes across as massively passive aggressive 😂

I never have had that confidence at uni lol but I only got a 2:1 sooooo haha

Also I wonder what kind of student she is in seninars!

Eh, her reaction really isn't that different to most other young people that I've seen on my instagram. A lot of people over here are celebrating because the US has beaten Trump and I think for a lot of young people (without getting too political) it signals a possibility that maybe we can also beat our own questionable government.

I can't believe this young woman left university just so that she could come home and prance around playing dressup. Honestly I think her parents should stop encouraging these behaviours. I assume it's her mum who films these lookbooks for her.
