I don’t think there’s any problem with her doing “childish” things. I mean, what about the millions of adults who play video games for hours every day? They are literally “playing” too.

By all accounts, she’s doing more than most people at 20 - she’s bought a house, has her own company, a successful channel and is academically bright.

In a world of influencers who are her age and want to appear grown up, it’s nice to see her being herself. Even if it’s a bit cringey sometimes, I do find her endearing.

The first few comments are saw underneath it were things along the lines of ‘I don’t because I’d be a victim of hate crime’ and ‘no, because of the lack of equality’. I think she’s appealing to a very white, middle class audience when she asks questions like that. I think she needs to consider that not every 19th Century person lived like a Brontë, Austin etc character.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with discussing her maturity levels on here, it is a discussion thread after all. I couldn’t imagine Ruby having a relationship (or a sexual one at that) or imagine her in a workplace when she’s posting videos of her prancing around her garden in a Coraline costume. Good for her doing whatever makes her happy but we shouldn’t forget that she is a 20 year old adult. I feel like people let her off for her naivety (especially the Government paid ad) because we see her as this innocent little twelve year old but she deserves to be held to account just like the rest of the influencers we criticise on here.

If its the poster I'm thinking about (username begins with W) they've been obsessed with her for YEARS, her essays on Ruby are tiring to read and just downright rude and uncalled for

I'm pretty sure in the first thread about Ruby, she was calling her chubby and getting really rude about her weight! Ruby has never ever been chubby, and I wouldn't be surprised if these hurtful comments about her weight has contributed to Ruby's weird eating habits today, as I'm certain she reads these sites.

I don't understand the obsession with reading a book whilst brushing teeth.

1. Surely you only brush teeth for a couple of minutes and therefore only read a page.
2. Surely as it is a paper copy you would get splashes on it
3. Can you not be alone with random thoughts for 2 mins that you have to escape into fiction? It just seems a really unpractical task to multitask. An audio book on the other hand, fine, if you are already listening.

I think Ruby is a kind soul but she is certainly in her bubble of privilege.

Rubys insta story - talking about A level results in what I'm assuming is a paid ad and how there are always options regardless of A level result etc etc

idk I feel it kind of poor taste to talk about how disappointed she was in her A in Religious Studies. A lot of people were downgraded so much they lost out on a university place, I've seen people online who have been rejected from all 5 they applied to because they were downgraded so much. Some people were predicted As and got Cs. I've seen people being given Us.
An A will still get you into most unis. I understand her being disappointed when she was aiming for an A* but I don't think now is the time to talk about that when there are people out there having to rethink their futures. Seems a tad out of touch in my opinion...

Shout out to Worcester College, Oxford though for saying they would take all students holding offers (I assume some would have to defer) because they recognised these grades were not a true reflection of their potential.

If only everywhere had been so accommodating.

Things like this really show how naive Ruby is. I'm sure she got asked to work with the NHS and thought "this is such a great opportunity, I'll be helping people and doing a good thing!" without considering any of the other factors around it. Just like with the A-Level results thing this year when she was like "I was sad too when I only got an A!" despite the situations being totally different.

I did once comment (politely) asking why productivity was so important. There is something very Late Capitalism about measuring your entire life, even your free time, by what you produce from it. Not everything good in life is measurable.

It went to a good comp and managed to get a 2:1 from a Russell Group. I’d be furious if I were her parents and paid so much for education for Ruby to be the way she is. She lacks all the character private schools are known for instilling.

does anyone know what her parents do? I knew that they were wealthy but I didn’t realise they were THAT wealthy. To put both of them through private school at £28000 a year is crazy. That’s nearly my year salary!

Ruby has her issues, I'm not defending her all of her behaviour here, but I'd argue that private schools don't instil character. They are institutions run for profit that ensure that the children of wealthy remain wealthy. They ensure the offspring of the wealthy pass state exams and take up as many extra-circular activities as possible in order to appear viable candidates for top universities. They introduce their students to the 'right' type of people who can open doors for them when it comes to getting into the world of work. And parents of private school children expect nothing less, because they are paying hefty fees. They want their money's worth. These private schools/competitive parents plan their kid's futures to the point where you'd wonder where does the young person's own free-will and desires come into it. The private schools (and culture they create as a byproduct of this) care not about a young person's personal development or mental health at all, all they care about is creating students who are a walking advertisement for their schools. Highly successful young people... on paper.

My best friend was sent to a hyper-competitive, elite girls school after graduation, when she entered the 'real world' and went to university.. well, she had a nervous breakdown and ended up being sectioned under the mental health act. Like Ruby, she had lived such a sheltered life where the metrics of success were predetermined for her. So when she was forced to interact with people outside this elite bubble and deal with independence in uni, she couldn't.

And tbh, I think some of this cycle of elitism and expectations apply to Ruby. I'm not excusing some of her behaviours, but I think the sheltered and meticulously planned environments she grew up in is partly to blame for the way she is.

Who would like working in the cold?? Sitting by an open window on a late-October UK evening is such a no for me lmao. Maybe it just helps her replicate the feeling of being a Victorian child using her quill by candlelight with a constant draft coming in.

In one of her videos recently she mentioned having ocd tendencies and how she had to check herself cos she was overly washing her hands again (more than needed even for covid).

That timetable makes me sad in that context and I hope she’s ok. She also said she’s been struggling since going back cos of covid anxiety, it could be a way of dealing with it.

Anyway I hope at some point she can enjoy the other parts of uni like slobbing around the house with friends avoiding your assignments. Then finishing it at 4am. Not that I ever did that of course.
