I never had 30 credit modules in second year, so I'm intrigued what Ruby meant, but I definitely heard her say she is doing two modules.

Yes she said she held back on speaking too much because of being conscious of being on speaker because of being remote. I can imagine her being enthusiastic in class.

Edit:
If I have found the right course then I stand corrected, the modules seem to be 30 credits each...

Wow that’s weird I’ve never heard of 30 credit modules at any uni. But she does seem to be doing excessive work for each class - at most then she might have 2 lectures and 2 seminars a week, the amount of studying she does looks like it’s for a lot more

It seems a very odd way of doing it! I’ve never seen any others that did 30! What a load of pressure and narrow selection! Like you end up doing 4 in your second year? That’s quite sad tbh

On her latest video around the 7 min mark she wrote notes on what to ask her tutor on feedback (on an essay she got a 1st) and I quote:

“You say my conclusion doesn’t add up with my thesis statement, but I feel it does.”

Then goes on to cite examples of how the tutor is wrong.

I’m assuming she’s going to word it nicely to her tutor but that comes across as massively passive aggressive 😂

I never have had that confidence at uni lol but I only got a 2:1 sooooo haha

Also I wonder what kind of student she is in seninars!
Listen, I'm all for clarifying feedback that you disagree with on an essay, but that just sounds petty af. If you're happy with the mark (and I mean it is a first Ruby.... but maybe not a high first that she wants, not that it makes much difference in the end) I'd just leave it, or email for some clarification on a comment or something.

Obviously tutors can mark essays harshly - absolutely been a victim of that lmao - but based on what we know of Ruby I can't imagine her coming off well in this conversation. "You say my conclusion doesn’t add up with my thesis statement, but I feel it does" - I can just see the tutor explaining why they're right and Ruby spluttering for some reason. With the NHS crap she pulled and how weird and fake she comes across in her videos I guess I've just decided she's a bit of a brat. Oh dear.

It won't let me quote for some reason but: This! I went to private school and it really damaged my self-confidence. From my experience there are two types of people; those who have been told how worthy of success they are their whole lives and are completely unaware of their privilege, and those who are aware of it and more reserved. So many lessons I just sat in silence, feeling so judged for speaking up in class as many believed their opinion was superior to everyone else and wouldn't let others have time to speak. I felt so worthless during my time there and I was so silent during lessons no teachers really could help me. I too felt so guilty for not being able to participate in lessons and activities due to my anxiety as my parents were paying for this experience.
Sorry for the double post - I went to a private school from a normal primary school but the feeder school into my secondary school was a prep school and everyone was frightfully middle class. I'm solidly middle class so wasn't even from a massively different background to them, but they singled me out right away as weird and a 'hippie' (....I can assure you I wasn't) and it trashed what little confidence I had joining the school as a shy introvert when there were already pre-established cliques and rules/things I didn't know about (like how cool it was to wear Jack Wills). Honestly, the whole experience was bewildering and at the time it was very hard to verbalise why I was so unhappy because it wasn't about the money, but the 'life experience' (in huuuuuge quotes because we were all 11 for gods sake haha) all these other girls seemed to have and I didn't.

At my uni (Leicester) we have 30 credit modules and we were told that meant we had to do 300 hours of studying for that module (150 hours for 15 credit modules) not including lectures, seminars etc. I won’t lie, there’s no way I did that much and I still got 2:1s, and I’m sure most people wouldn’t do that much either and still do well! Maybe Ruby’s taking similar advice a bit too literally?

Is ruby in her first year or second? I know she swapped courses but I’m confused about if she started as a first year again?

That’s where I went! What course are you doing 😃, just interesting how things are run differently

Its so true, I met so many private school kids at uni who were so confident despite having bang average intelligence and being mediocre students. Like they would answer questions, and speak on topics which they had absolutely no knowledge of, get the answer completely wrong and not even be slightly humbled by it. I found it infuriating but also so interesting to watch lol, never seen arrogance like it.
I don’t think Ruby is like this, but she doesn’t seem to like being told shes wrong, even from an academic who is obviously more knowledgeable than her

She's in first year (but it's her second year at Exeter), she had to start again when she switched to English

Ahh no way! I’m doing American Studies (well taking a year out because I can’t go abroad this year) 😭 what did you study? I’ve no idea why Ruby is doing 2 30 credit modules,I couldn’t cope only doing 2!

Politics and sociology! Ah that sucks! That makes sense about the modules! Maybe it’s a first year thing? I don’t understand why they run their degree like they do 😂

Isn’t she in second year English but it’s actually her third year at Exeter ?
Ok I had to rewatch the video because I was convinced she only moved to English in January but it was Oct 2019?!

Anyway you’re right, this is her third year at uni and second as an English student

She does seem immature still for someone in their third year at uni 🤣

I did English at Exeter and can confirm that you only do four 30 credit modules in second year (two per semester). Same in third year as well. You are expected to do a LOT of reading and have both essays and exams in all of them. I never did nearly as much as Ruby though - I really hope she doesn’t burn herself out.

Heya, I never usually write on here but I'm currently studying English at Exeter so can provide a bit of insight! We do 2 modules per term, and each module is pretty big (30 credits) so she's doing the normal amount! However, she 100% overworks herself - it's really not necessary to do the amount of reading and note-taking that she does. People typically just read the set texts for the week (plus some secondary reading) and come to seminars prepared for a discussion rather than making extensive amounts of notes before then! Most people have more than enough time to do well in their degree, plus join societies and have a busy social life, so no need for her 15hr study days haha. Also, some of my friends have been in seminars with her and apparently she's quite nice (if a little precocious) but mostly keeps to herself and seems more keen to chat with the professor than socialise with her peers. People who lived in her first year halls have also said that she constantly made noise complaints, which honestly doesn't surprise me! I think she's a nice person but she's VERY sheltered, and her videos are absolutely not an accurate depiction of what uni life is like. It's kind of become a meme among Exeter students that the uni sponsors her 😂😂

When I did mine it just meant we had a bit more of a choice, as modules were 10 or 20, which helped if one of them was boring or horrible to study so you didn’t feel like too much of your grade was resting on them. I took a 10 credit Chaucer module and regretted it and did badly in it, but it was only worth 10 credits so overall I came out okay. I suppose the flip side is on a 30 credit module you get to study more on that topic than perhaps you would have for a 10 credit module, so this has been an interesting discovery to see that it can be done differently. So, no shade on Exeter, I was just surprised! :D.

She looks absolutely tiny in that video she posted.

I'm suggesting anything but I really hope she's okay.
I thought the exact same! Hopefully its just the angle/perspective she's filmed it at but is is worrying. Especially considering what she's been showing us recently with her portion sizes, the actual food she's eating (low calorie) and the excessive amount of exercise she's been doing :/

I don’t think her glasses help either when it comes to the size of her face, they make her look incredibly small and I think they’re just too big for her face shape and size.
