I stand corrected - under 30% of students got firsts when I graduated from there, so it definitely seems to have increased year on year.....it's still tough to get a first there, Oxford takes some of the top students in the country and over half don't get a first. I agree definitely would've found the whole thing hard.
Yup, there's been massive grade inflation at basically all uk unis over the past decade I think - a first from Oxford/Cambridge was probably much more prestigious when you were there compared to now!
Not what I meant at all, I love travel but I know not everyone has the money to and we all have different priorities with our money. It was more of a comment of how with all the money and resources she and her family seem to have it seems quite telling that they don't appear to have gone anywhere except the most western influenced countries especially since she seems to idolise the Bucket List Family who travel all over the world. If I had all the money they seem to have I feel like I would have gone more places. I really think it would do Ruby some good to go somewhere in Asia or Africa which is a bit more out of her comfort zone.
I get what you mean with this. She definitely is really well travelled for her age, but it does say something about the family in general that they don't seem to have wanted to explore much outside of the Western world. I am incredibly lucky that, like Ruby, age 21 I've been able to travel much more than most people can, but honestly as I've gotten older I've become more and more grateful for the fact that my parents have chosen to go to places outside of the typical middle-class holiday destinations. Visiting places like South Africa, Botswana and Zambia has been SO beneficial for my world view in terms of learning about the world outside of Europe, and definitely influenced me to do stuff like seek out books and films from those places, which don't necessarily receive as much attention in the UK. Obviously it's not Ruby's fault - I would guess that the parents have the most say over holiday plans - but it does say something about the way she was probably raised. I've never got the sense she has much interest in the world outside of the UK/Europe/America.

I really feel that Ruby *needs* to read The Five by Hallie Rubenhold and I’m sure she’ll get a verrry different idea of what it was like to be poor in the 19th century and stop romanticising a period which was actually extremely hard for anyone who wasn’t wealthy.
Yes! This is such a good book and would give her so much more insight into the period and live of working class women and how dangerous it actually was. If she wanted to learn more about the working class in the 20th century (later period but I think it would be good for her to get out her comfort zone) I would also really recommend The Radium Girls by Kate Moore.

I think she said that her score was for a presentation, rather than an essay (the one she wore the top hat for??).

I think my mom would kill me if I posted a video on the Internet for thousands of people to see where our house is visible and not perfectly clean in some way. Like one time I was having a Zoom call with some uni friends to discuss a project (so a completely informal occasion with like three people) and she told me off because a pile of clean plates was visible behind me on a counter. Ruby's house looks way messier and dirtier than that and she has no problem showing it to her whole fanbase smh
Lol my mum comments on my hair not being super sleek after just washing it (gets a bit puffy because it's very thin) so I can't imagine the ass whooping I would get for showing something like Ruby's house

You can enjoy learning about something without dressing up and acting it out. Ruby frequently does romanticised acting videos on her channel and I can't see anything changing in this one.
It is a thing, though. Watch any history documentary on the BBC and you can pretty much guarantee you’ll see Lucy Worsley wandering around an old house in a fancy frock.

Maybe it was a seminar where you got graded for participation and therefore you had to use a different topic to things discussed in the seminar? Idk I've never had seminars where participation counts towards your grade but some courses do.
This could be it. But if that was the case, surely the amount of topics would be broad enough that she could easily choose another with minimal disruption. And she would’ve known the topic due to pre reading for the seminar. She sounds like the sort that is very precious about her “original” ideas but at degree level with 300+ students is there really going to be something no one has thought of before? You can take the most popular topic and if you write it well against the grading criteria you will still score highly!

I love her vintage style and I would wear the same but only to like big occasions such as a party or a big family gathering. Never just around the house or just a random walk. Also some of her outfits just don't look right to me. They all look like messy thrown on clothes.
I definitely feel like she avoids things that are even vaguely tight or revealing, because she does not want to show that she has the body of an adult woman underneath.

Erimentha Parker's To Do List
User @Satisfying Click has been reading Ruby's debut story, summaries of each chapter are linked below
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
Chapter 6
Chapter 7
Chapter 8
Chapter 8b
Chapter 9
Chapter 11 (no chapter 10)
These reviews are incredible but not having read the book, I can't actually see any examples yet of Erimentha being bullied? I can see examples where she is bordering on bullying others (difficult to tell without reading the original text) but she doesn't seem to be a victim at any point. I'm not sure how many chapters are in the book but surely this should have been established by Chapter 10?

Off topic but I love the idea of you spending the day with your book and a bag of Percy Pigs. Has made me want to go to M&S to buy some!
I’m having an unexpected snow day so I’ve actually been reading The Shining and my comment made me go to the kitchen and get some Percy Pigs 🤣 #ad

I’m not a literature student and I am still working full time but I read 18 in January, it’s a lot of not loads of she’s including her course books 😂
Ok maybe it’s just me 😂😂

I tend to read 400-700 page history books on top of fiction so maybe that’s why I don’t get through so many... also I don’t ever read children’s books and picture books like she does.

Agreed! I'd be genuinely up for a monthly round up of books she's read, with some proper analysis of them rather than just 'I liked this'. Obviously this is assuming it's not all kids books - I'm sure it won't be though given she'll presumably have some uni stuff on there. My main issue with Ruby content wise (so excluding her privilege etc), is that it's all very repetitive and very childish. I think some more grown up videos where she actually shows us some intelligence and adult thoughts would be genuinely interesting.

Yeah I'm really not sure about the working class routine. We were all critical of her for making an upper class one and passing that off as being 'normal', so I know now criticising her for a working class one might seem unfair (sorry Ruby if you're reading!!), but really I just think she shouldn't have done any in the first place. I just can't see a way it isn't going to be incredibly insensitive and poverty porn-y.
Yes she did do a big disclaimer about the upper class routine stuff so I agree with what you’re saying.

I swear in one of her earliest study with me videos she said she was allowed to use a computer for her exams due to her hands. Something about how she struggled with writing for a long time because it caused her pain.

On a side note, I find myself missing her earlier content. I feel like middle-class Ruby was just easier to watch and engage with, she wasn't afraid to do normal things outside of the Hermione videos.
What do you mean by this? She's still middle class 😂 I didn't really watch her content before she was at university so idk what it was like

Also, that white mark on her nail is a sign of a deficiency, although I can't recall which vitamin/mineral.

Oh she definitely has, as I remember in one video she had to phone Student Finance because one of her instalments hadn't been paid in when it should have been.
Wtf, she doesn't need that money. Like I know they obviously don't track what you spend your student loan on but it's for helping you pay for rent and food, not for buying endless teas and victorian nightgowns and whatever other shit Ruby buys.

Ahhaha, big hilarious fight in the comments of her latest insta post, someone asked her to reconsider the working-class morning routine because it runs the risk of coming across as tone-deaf. Her fans just PILED on the poor commenter and Ruby replied by pm.

I want her to do it, the more tone-deaf the better tbh. That way, maybe some of her fangirls’ eyes are opened to her extreme privilege, and the rest of us get to laugh.

highlight from the thread: someone said ”how do you know she’s rich, and wouldn’t it be her parents anyway? She gets money from youtube!” - yes, because that’s precisely how the world works. She got to this point purely on her own merit, her parents had nothing to do with getting her her first camera, paying her way through private school, ensuring she didn’t have to work and could thus have endless leisure to devote to youtube... etc etc. Bootstraps! Rags to riches!
oh God, those fans must be 12 year olds 🤣🤣

I really hope that she will stick to the internship and not run home as soon as someone snezzes across the road
