Yes I subscribe to Netflix even though my UO declares it as tit! but I am not paying for something which is there when I turn on the TV pah!

If BBC want people to pay up so badly perhaps they should make it an opt in service like above šŸ‘†Just because it is there and I can watch it for free if I really want to šŸ„“ sometimes I do for the craic, nothing and nobody can guilt trip me into paying for something which is already there, if you wish to pay for it great. Paying the TV licence is a mugs game, if anyone feels strongly about it feel free to pay for it on my behalf!
With modern TV sets, you can easily block out freeview channels from the menu , so it must be easy for the BBC to scramble their signal, then if someone subscribes to them, unscramble it. Satellite boxes have been doing it for 30 + years, now.....
It would solve the problem over buying a licence, especially if people don't watch them or listen to radio2, 4 etc

Universities are scams. Why do we force so many people to go through them? Especially now that they are often of little benefit in actually getting a job.

I agree. On-job training is far more effective I specialised jobs in Tech, Engineering, etc . Practical & schooling , while learning the job. Have the higher education, but through the work job itself training schedules

I think the government and royal family have a certain pull within the bbc,
They get have some ā€œcontrolā€ over what is being presented or at least the did in the past,
I donā€™t think itā€™s bias as such, but when you have a contact that you regularly work with, itā€™s then hard to go against them,
Now Andrew Marr was 100000% Tory, who made that very clear in my opinion.

I think media in general in changing right now and the Diana interview drama has driven a much needed wedge between the firm and the media outlet.

also back to BPD/EUPD.
Sticking the word ā€œdisorderā€ on someoneā€™s actions/behaviours almost excuses it, Itā€™s becoming a get out clause and excuse more than a diagnosed illness. šŸ˜

They wish to force their services on people. Especially people who know no better.

Itā€™s not as hard to make time to exercise as most people make out, most people are just lazy.
This is very true, I have plenty of spare time but are very lazy to exercise

Unpopular opinion. Dirty dancing is a absolute shite!

Had a whole conversation about this topic yesterday. They offer the most stupid degrees these days and too be honest most, like BA degrees, could be done in a year on a diploma. Pure liberty to stretch them to 3 years and charge Ā£9K a year.

Only things like sciences and maths, etc should be offered as degree courses. I learnt just as much working as I did from my Business degree

It would be great if colleges and schools offered other option. University was all that was talked about during year 11 when we had to decide what A levels we wanted to do. NVQs and similar options weren't talked about. I wasted a whole year struggling with my A Levels when I could have done something more valuable and helpful with my time.

You have a point there. It is something they could do, especially now the oldies have to pay for a TV licence.

My beef is with people who do watch BBC or listen to the radio and still refuse to pay.

Most people spend a fortune on their TV viewing. Between TV licence, Virgin/Sky, Netflix, Disney+ etc etc it all adds up to quite a substantial amount.

Agree with the university thing.

People go for the lifestyle and to get pissed and move out for three years. Thereā€™s no need to go to a university miles and miles away from home that requires you to relocate. Also most are trash. I know people with a first class degree in art, another in sport and they are doing jobs totally unrelated to their degree. People are sold a dream but end up wasting 3 years

I think that any student who has paid thousands for isolation and virtual lectures through out the pandemic is mad. I would have ddeferred.

But why would you have beef with it? What exactly gets your goat about people who still watch but donā€™t pay?

I don't work in a job that's directly related to my degree, but I do think that University gave me skills that I use in my job.

I've certainly never seen it as a waste of time or money anyway.

Because it is not a free service and you're enjoying and watching something you haven't paid for.
Don't you feel it's a step too far to make people who don't watch the BBC pay for other channels if they watch live? They want your money for something they are not providing, some people watch without paying What's the difference?

No because I believe everyone in the UK should have access to the national broadcaster whether it if for entertainment, news or radio. They do not raise funds from advertising so have to fund it somehow. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask us to contribute. If you genuinely never watch or listen to it then fine. If you do, then I think you pay up.

I do believe BBC News and BBC World Service should be free.

Maybe they should do what @VC10 suggested.

This is very dependent on what degree you do. My degree STEM based and was hugely beneficial for my career path - I had a job offer months before finishing at uni and the starting salary was very generous.

Degrees like bachelor of arts get a rough reputation but offer great opportunity for learning and study that isn't possible without going to uni. If students choose not to take advantage of those opportunities that is on them.

I donā€™t think any education is a waste, my experience of university allowed for me to get life skills as well as the actual hard work part. I do agree though that university should not be the ā€˜be all and end allā€™ - I did not feel ready to go to uni in 2017 but it was all I was told throughout the later years of school and a levels ā€” and although I loved it in the end am still unsure how or if I will use my degrees.

I partly agree with you, but not everyone goes to uni to guarantee a job, thatā€™s the problem with the education system. Some people want to go because they love learningā€¦ my degree was done out of love and not career prospects. Although, saying that, I did need a degree to get on my career ladder.
