DJ's paintings are in "the style of" art popular in the early 20th century, owing much to Picasso and the Surrealists . They are interesting , some better than others, but you are right, they don't suit the period of the chateau at all. Agree there should be a dedicated gallery space.I beg to differ in some points. Mainly because I find burning and destroying cultural artefacts (and books, for that matter) abhorrent. DJ's paintings are not to my taste at all, and I do not like where and how they are displayed. So wrong! But whatever their artistic or historic value (I'd love to hear from someone knowledgable in art history what they think his influences were? I see a bit of pop art, yes, @Mummy Dearest, a bit of Picasso, Paul Klee maybe? a smidgin of Mondrian? whatever, they are unique!). I do understand that SJ values/appreciates/loves her father's oeuvre, and I am sure they have their place somewhere, but not in a chintzy mishmash of vintage/antique/shabby chic domestic environment. They clash horribly. As was suggested before, a gallery space for all the artwork could surely be established somewhere in one of the outbuildings. Imagine the possibilities, a vernissage, annual artyfarty memorial day, workshops "learn to paint Derek Jarvis' style", merchandise, like colouring books, , painting by numbers, screenprinting your own DJ artwork onto aprons, oven gloves, cushions, (remember Dear Brenda'sawfulartful cushions, anyone? ),WALLPAPER!! Yesss!, etc. I think all this would be simply paarfect! (and for the children: sock puppets! There are enough socks in the shatoo to last for many, many workshops! And felted hedgehogs, stuff your own squirrel utilizing the sheepwool fleeces , sparkly headdresses, tiara style, with peacock feathers. The possibilities are endless! Does anyone recall Oliver's painting workshop(s)? Just like that, only MUCH bigger! The superfans would love it, and flock in droves to book The Creative D.J. Chateau Experience!(foraged lunch pakets included! )
The mediaeval series seem to be copies of or to be based on the "Unicorn" series of tapestries. Not sure how close the copies are to the originals. There might be copyright issues.
Oh poor you! I hope you are all recovered.I’m always angry for Marie, that people use her home as a dumping ground for everything. It would annoy me!
I am indeed envious, I dream of having many languages but I get totally mixed up and sound ridiculous! I think you either have it or don’t.
I don’t want to watch him, but is he truly being b so disrespectful to a women and posting it?
But truly fabulous!!
I haven’t seen much from Brenda as of late?
Actually the rapid test are not very accurate. I tested negative rapid and four days later, after spreading my germs to my family positive. The new variant is even harder to detect.
I have heard they can be wrong sometimes. If a test is taken just after the vaccination, it can show up as positive, even though its not. This may be skewing figures. The PCR test is more accurate but not as easy to obtain.
