Awww that’s better. Thank(space)you, dear heart x

ps. It’s typically rich of Jack to say that her Mum chose fostering over ‘sitting on her arse’. Jack, that’s what YOU do, you melon. And it shows a total lack of respect and understanding of the hard work involved in being a stay at home parent. Jack is so cushioned by privilege and entitlement that she has her son’s father taking the bulk of the care responsibilities. And she probably has a cleaner (remember the ‘team’ of staff) who’s working hard on minimum wage (or less!) whilst Jack quaffs spendy and complicated lattes (so quirky) at the local cafe/dog parlour 3 times a week.
Yeah line up for your Jack blanket, ignorant and generalising insult. I worked part-time ‘crappy’ jobs to enable a mostly SAHM life for their first few years then off to nursery. Didn’t work full-time till they went off to secondary and even then not full-time as proper full-timers with a difficult/demanding job would see it. Being an active mum at home running a household is as we all know DAMN HARD. Being at work was often a lovely break for me from home life-you feel valued in a different way and you can leave any home tit at the door and talk to OTHER ADULTS! Nothing she says aligns with anybody's real world experiences.
I’d be amazed if she didn’t have a cleaner given Leggy would absolutely have had one.

Yes to all of the above. I would also add that "sitting on her arse" comment is so revealing. Jack's mum left work due to disability as millions of people have to every day. It's a big complex area, some people cannot work at all and certainly couldn't take on additional family responsibilities but they're not "sitting on their arse" they're managing their condition as best they can. You don't have to scratch the surface very hard to see what a hard faced little Daily mail reader stereotype she really is. I'd still love to have seen the look on her stupid face when she realised what single parents actually get on benefits as opposed to her Tory fever dreams of free housing and wheelbarrow full of £50 notes.

Loving the bra and baby chat…me?
36C (pre baby it was 34A)
1 baby, at nearly bloody 40!

I think for middle class Jack, her having SB at 23 would have been seen as very young.

Yeah because in addition to cleaning the crappy bungalow she’d be one of these who wants to follow you around talking or leaving you passive aggressive notes.
ETA: And there’d only be weird tea and coffee and she’d give you her own baking instead of nice biccies from M&S.

Aside from the nuclear cringe - just who is this stuff for?? Who needs a recipe for mushroom on toast? That's not a recipe it's just stating 2 ingredients that frequently go together. And the boasting is grim. Wanting everyone to think she's got a magic muff
She created a recipe for hard boiled eggs chopped up in a cup with salt and butter. It’s in GFFBD, I think. Someone posted it here before.
It isn’t a recipe.
it’s my breakfast about 3 days a week with a slice of toast. In the west of Scotland it’s what my mum would make if I was off school unwell. Shes charging people for this.

Hi All. First post, don't murder me.

I find myself here because I have been suspicious of Jack Monroe for a long time. Much of what she writes just doesn't ring true. However, others have written about that. I really don't believe a work that comes out of the girls mouth (or anything she types on Twitter or Insta, or wherever else she and her flying monkeys haunt).

What has irked me about her a lot is her recipes. They are effing nonsese. Rinsing spaghetti hoops? What? People would be better off eating paper, it would be more nutritious. I'm associated with a charity that does many things for people in need and one of them is free classes on cooking well. Anyone in the local community can come along, parents with their kids, single people, students, whoever. The classes are between 4-6 weeks long, one afternoon a week and teach people who to use different ingredients, what to do with leftovers etc, and how to budget (if they are struggling to). People also learn what dietary intake people need at different ages. Also, people have fun and make new friends.

I've found those classes help people more over the last year or so than some half-baked recipe books that do nothing other than make people believe they are eating well for less when they are actually eating crap.

I have become more irate with how "Jack" treats poor people recently. Classes like I just described, those are the way forward, not some middle-class twonk lecturing poor people to buy cheaper and eat worse.

Apologies for the length, she does rile me right up!

Hard agree. She accidentally reveals her contempt for the poorer and less fortunate all the time. Her language around disabled folks, looked-after children and the unwaged, all reveal her feelings of superiority and contempt.

This is why it’s a crying shame she was afforded space in Frances Ryan’s book (really, what was Ryan THINKING?) and also it’s a complete con that she’s known as a woman of the people, on the side of the poor and disenfranchised. She is NOT. She despises them.

I’m 100% with you on your core reason for being here. Long time ago now but I helped run those cooking sessions and you’re absolutely right that they help more than she ever ever could. They do such a lot to changing attitudes to food and cooking/eating as a family etc. She is absolutely clueless.

Quit her fire service job because “it’s interently wrong to foist” your child onto other people while you work (ie childcare), in case he ‘ends up becoming damaged like a child in foster care’

View attachment 1630214
With this statement she is displaying what a hypocrite she is since her son barely sees her. She is also damaging women's rights although dads count too but the majority of childcare is still women led. Parents have the right to access childcare without guilt. Parents of disabled children are entitled to send their children for respite breaks. Families are allowed to help each other out.
Jack is also displaying her privilege here as she had the benefit of a stay at home mum. Many kids don't. A hard working single mum is not farming her kids out to a child minder or after school club when she goes out to work. She is juggling the reality of being a single parent. But also her kids will get the benefit of fun experiences, socialisation and have more people to love them.
Jack is such a narrow minded bleep. duck off Jack, you have no idea about other people's experiences.

Not just because of the sentient rug, but that kitchen in this and all the other pics of it just screams ‘death by misadventure’ (and no Jack, I don’t want you DEAD). There are so, so many hazardous items in there, including items that have become hazardous because they’ve been placed in hazardous places (like a kitchen), or balanced somewhere they don’t belong.

Stuff to trip over, stuff to slip on, stuff to slide out from under you, stuff to fall on you, dangerous stuff over the cooker fan, fabric and order flammable stuff absolutely everywhere; It’s like one of those pictures or videos you get on a training course or in a Home Economics class where you have to circle all the things that could be dangerous. Except it would have so many circles drawn on it, it would look like it had been covered in rinsed ‘oops.

Jack has been on her main Twitter to block the parody account. Parking squig is still waiting for an apology and retraction. The silence continues ominously.

She doesn't understand food and how flavours work together, and she's cooking down to a price point, not up to a standard. So the thyme can go because she doesn't understand why it's there, and so it's just added expense. Ditto with the creme fraiche. It's expensive and cream cheese is the same thing (if you don't understand food), so just swap one for the other.
All white dairy based products are interchangeable, dear heart x

Rug in kitchen I cannot abide. Same for upholstered stool. Also the powder blue/powder pink with orange curtains and vomit rug is giving my internal interior designer an aneurysm. And if that’s where the kettle goes where do you make the tea?
