This is just poverty porn for their middle class readership. They could have asked someone with authentic experience of poverty and ACEs to write about their experiences or they could have asked an expert to explain their research but no, we get Jack performing imagined poverty instead. I used to spend money I could ill afford on that paper, now I wish it would go to the wall.
Got your therapy on the NHS did you?
Morning all, Brand new herren here. I have been lurking about for a few weeks and was over the moon to find my "something a bit off" radar about Jack wasn't wrong and there were a lot of like minded people here and I wasn't just being irrational. I am fairly local to Jack but the other side of town, so have known about her since the early days especially when she started appearing in the Echo, though I have largely tried to ignore her for the best part of the past ten years ( Standing as a local MP excepted). I laughed this morning as I have just seen on a local facebook page a BBC journalist looking for a Southend street they can "adopt" and follow every few months during the cost of living crisis to see how people are coping. I so wanted to suggest to her that maybe she could do poverty Queen Jack Monroes street!
Perplexed if you were still in debt from the povertyTM then why did you use advances on 2 Burberry coats and a Mulberry Bayswater? You’ve been engaged at least twice in that first 5 years, and at least one was a multi millionaire, why weren’t they working on this with you?
I think in the past, the publication really did have something useful to say. It was providing a service to those who needed a voice. My parents have always been dismissive of “bloody clueless Guardian readers” and I used to think that was unfair; but seeing as Jack is a Guardian editor’s choice of poor person then I have to reluctantly agree that Guardian readers are probably clueless, seemingly by editorial design.
Re therapy, yes. If you don't mind waiting 18 months for a referral.Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can commnet. Is she saying that NHS can offer therapy to all who ask?
I find this hard to believe. Also - piece published in online article and is offering advice on twitter, why?
Right, or I’d love to read what it’s like to be a child growing up below the breadline… from a child currently doing so. The world is such a different place, if anything I think I was lucky to have my poor tit childhood pre social media as at least you got away from comparisons at home. Consumption is very different now too, like those memes of 14 year olds then / 14 year olds now are funny and true, but show kids themselves are spending more money and more flashy than previous gens. It must be really hard for them, not sure what Jack adds other than telling them they’re going to die of starvation? This is just poverty porn for their middle class readership. By which time, it will have been too late for some. It’s ok for smol pixies though who have kind benefactors to call on.Re therapy, yes. If you don't mind waiting 18 months for a referral.
Or a couple of city-adjacent trips.
A GP can refer for therapy but the waits are huge. Note that isn't just a Tory thing, around 2008 I was told I could be referred for some initial sessions that would then pass me in to the next more specialist step. Wait was 12 months initially, then a further 18 months after assessment. And yes, I dislike defending Tories.Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can commnet. There is probably a lot of armchair psychology to be done here but a) it’s boring b) hayfever is off the scale c) cba d) it’s too hot.The CCJ thing is quite odd. It takes a fair amount to get one, so I would surmise there was not openness or honesty regarding finance in the last relationship. Interestingly, I've spotted that Jack's relationships all seem to start when she is in a bad place. If you look, she met LJC the day after the court case finished for example. The current one would seem doomed based on last year - endless therapy, relapses. Just my opinion, but until you have some amount of being comfortable with yourself, a relationship isn't going to work well
