Going back to the hidden message in Jack's embroidery, what is the actual point in a message that very few people will ever see. Most people will not study the embroidery in detail, so who is the message for?

If it is for herself, why not write it clearly, but keep it in a purse or the inside page of a diary where only she sees it.

If it is for other people that have issues with substance misuse, a kind of message of comradeship. If it is, unless she points it out to them, they won't know it's there, so would be useless.

If it is for the cabal/canal/cable, then job done. But what purpose does she want to pass this message to us?

It's all very Agatha Christie if you ask me.

ETA has anyone else outside the 4 walls of Tattle deciphered the message? Would it show on Twitter or Instagram comments if they had?

They reckoned they couldn't take me off the list because of GDPR, so I'd just tell them to piss off. They even tried doing it when I was picking up dog poop once. Seriously wtf, absolute weirdos. Used to be funny when they'd try the vicar next door though.
Tattle island with hats? I'm in! As long as I can bring my pets.
I’m in to, I’ll bring my foraging skills and leave cottagecore behind.

Does ‘Just for today’ refer to the fact that the embroidery will start falling out tomorrow?

Honestly, I just wanted to see how pretty I look in my hat.

I know it's an AA mantra, but it's quite apt for Jack, most of her 'passions' barely last a day in her interest levels. She blames ADHD for it.

Maybe it's something to do with it being over her heart, a self soothing thing. I feel bad that the cabal spotted it over her actual followers, it's all a bit tragic that her so-called trolls are the only ones noticing these things.

As far as I have seen, no-one outside of tattle has spotted any lettering let alone the phrase.

I agree that it seems very performative and I can't see the point of hiding a secret message on a shirt that she might wear sometimes, and when she does she won't see it. It's like she wants to be praised for dealing with her issues. Except she's not, is she? It's all a look at me event, I'm so poor, I'm so ill, I'm in recovery...

I don't know a lot about AA/NA beyond what has been shared here, but this seems completely against the principles of the program in that it's all about her and controlling how others see her. Surely (part of) the point is to realise that your issues have contributed to you being a massive hole and mistreating people around you, changing, and apologising. That gives your sobriety value because you see you're a better person.

LJC, I don't even put this much thought into my own stitching, I just follow the pattern!

(No offense intended to anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do, the last thing I want to do is upset someone and I'm happy to be corrected!)

It's performative nonsense. I've had little mantras in the past. You know where I've kept them? In my head.

There are many strategies to cope with anxiety or depression or probably addiction (not my specialist subject). You are meant to internalise them. Like taking some deep breaths when you start feeling anxious, counting your breaths, repeating a mantra, etc. I know some physical objects can be helpful to some people (like bracelets). Having a secret message on a shirt that you can't see unless you look in the mirror (and even then it would be the wrong way around) seems utterly pointless.

Anonymous is right there in the name, pretty sure that Jack has been doing this wrong for a while. I think there are two inter-related things here: anonymity (no praise, no headpats) and time - one and done really doesn't cut it with cooking, crafting or recovery. It's always bothered me that not only do you not see Jack eating the food they've prepared, there's also none of that joy of repetition that most home cooks thrive on (especially, above all, always, Nigella - Cook, Eat, Repeat!)

There's always one 😆

The Mexican mayo chico will not be offering you a Hellmann's sample for this mayonnaise based holiday!

I said I don’t like the hats, not I don’t like mayo - I’m not crazy :ROFLMAO: although even I may pass on accepting free mayonnaise from a Gym Bro who doesn’t understand how masks work.

Been going through some ancient cookbooks and found this horrible sounding egg surprise from a 1994 Good Housekeeping cookbook about 'raising vegetarian children'. So they didn't even invent Slop for All the Family! There were some other gems in there, including a recipe for Spanakopita (delicious, but maybe difficult to convince an under-10 to eat a spinach pie) and a brief introduction to one of the recipes saying 'most children find this acceptable' 🤣
