Didn’t realise he has a thread! I really admire him, he’s doing amazing things with his platform. I’ve honestly got such a crush on him, I wish he was a doctor where I work:ROFLMAO::love:

What he’s doing is admirable but he’s absolutely cringe. The ‘hell’, the sound effects putting a bath bomb in his bath.

What he’s doing is great but he’s doing it to be a tv doctor and famous

Personally find him annoying and thought he was cruel to Alex on Love island. great he is working in the NHS still.

If he’s agenda stops one young person from dying by suicide, then I’m all for his agenda

yeah I agree, surely someone who just did things for "their agenda" wouldn't be working in a gruelling a and E dept? he could probably quit and just work as an influencer like most of the other contestants if he was so selfish

But this is his niche. He’s always said he wanted to be a tv doctor. Selling fake tan isn’t going to get him that.
I don’t mind him and obviously working for the nhs is great, I do think he’s got a bigger game plan long term and if he’s worked hard fair play to him.

My only minor gripe with him is he tries to be too cool and he’s a bit geeky and it comes off a bit too try hard.

I saw that love island are apparently trying to sign up keyworkers for the new series

yeah I guess that is true, I guess he is probably angling for a series like those twin doctors or Micheal Mosely but I still have huge respect for him doing his job anyway. jesus, love island trying to sign up keyworkers! this sounds like something from The Onion!

Hardly the barometer. I don't think anyone would begrudge anyone from receiving help in respect of mental health difficulties or suicidal ideation.

The difficulty I have with Alex George is that EVERYTHING comes back to him.
Every post is self congratulating. I struggle with the latest post about his dear late brother - as it is about Alex graduating and his brother being so proud of him. Why do Alex's achievements have to come into it? Why did Alex mention his brother following in his footsteps? I personally think this is incredibly crass and I think it is fairly obvious why.

That is one example of many. I don't doubt for one second that he is absolutely devastated, however I think he is constantly virtue signalling whilst playing the NHS hero card.

He entered Love Island in a quest for fame. He was a massive flop on the show, so he had to change his niche in order to remain relevant.

Therefore he plays on the doctor persona. I think he is as fame hungry as they come and what I dislike most is that fact he hides behind the guise of being a doctor in order to appear more wholesome and worthy than his influencer counterparts.

He is as self-righteous as they come.

I really like Alex. I think he’s really genuine and seems to want to use his platform to do as much good as he can. Devastating that he lost his brother to mental health - I don’t think I could go on if that happened to me. I actually find his “hell” etc quite funny I think he knows he isn’t that “cool” and just plays on it.

this is a small thing but I think shows he cares a lot more than the average influencer... there is a missing girl in SW London (Sarah Everard) and most influencers have just shared the info sheet on her disappearance with no commentary or context but Alex has properly shared twice and added more stories / pages of commentary to make his followers really think - asking if theywere around, can they share, have they seen anything. Ijust think it shows he is a throroughly decent human.

I think the retraining to be a gp is to increase his chances as a tv doctor. Probably try and get an itvbe show in his practice or something

Alex is getting a lot of pushback on Twitter from mental health advocacy accounts and I can see their point and frustrations. I work on the front lines of NHS mental health and giving a doctor the role they have is just so out of touch and such an obvious PR exercise. Alex has been replying to some of the criticis in a very defensive tone, but not acknowledging maybe he should be learning from these activists and using his platform to amplify their voices. Just makes me think he does this more to look good then make a real difference. I would respect him more if he used his position to challenge the gov rather than join them in purporting the piss poor party line.

The memes have been funny though e.g.

Publicity stunt though isn’t it. He thinks he’s reaching the younger market doing it and by doing it gets the attention and awareness.

I just can’t help but think he’s doing this for his own career and pr. hopefully will do some good too which I’m sure he will

I know he's only done the Only fans account as a thing to share wellness stuff and self care stuff. Rather than porn like most others. But self care and OnlyFans is basically a wank. This one just doesn't quite work as a good move. I like the bloke, I've a lot of time and respect for him. But not sure about this one.

And yes it's obviously his mental health champion role is government PR, but hell, he might make a difference somehow, even if it's a small change. It's worth a try. At least he is speaking to the people who are able to help bring change, if they want to.

And I don't disagree that he is giving himself this great PR image out of it all as well. Got himself a bath bomb range now to sell. So he's making moves for himself out of it all - which again, I don't have a problem with myself. But I can see why others find it all a bit self-promoting. But I kinda don't give a tit. In the grand scheme of influencers, he's at the least crappy end for me.

And he's almost unique as an influencer in that he does actually tag his ads from what I've seen.

Can't stand him, I can't fathom how anyone has forgotton what an arrogant, self-serving twit he was on Love Island and how badly he treated Alexandra. The only thing I will say is I admire that he hasn't sold out (as much anyway) as all the other Love Islanders, although I'm not fully convinced it isn't because his ego loves all the praise he's getting for working in the NHS.
