I completely agree, sense of humour is major! My husband is hilarious! He can be kind of moody too, but his humor is awesome. Humour is very attractive. My husband is also 6 feet and has nice broad shoulders .... yeah, he's nice!! LOL. He's bald now that he's 50, we've been married 27 years now.
I've never been with a man whose sense of humor even came close to mine...LOL...but, IF I was to ever think of having another man in my life...that guy had better be able to make me laugh!!!!...(Never gonna happen since I'm a nun now...you know...don't want none, ain't lookin' for none, yadda yadda yadda...)

Yeah, in real life I'd want taller, but looking at him in videos and photos is just dandy! Dan isn't my type either .... can't say I can think of anyone that's been on CD that is!

July 2008

Wonder if Annalise was doing Dan's hair back then!

Dan would have been about 18! Let's just say he looks a LOT better at 31!!

The Marquis' Fiancee here.

Awww....where did you find this? Sorry, I'm not so good at sleuthing. Dan and Annalise look so cute! What a lovely couple they make!

danann july 2008.jpg

The Marquis is over 6'5" (198.4cm) and I'm 5'7" (170cm). In high school, I was always attracted to guys in the (American) football team (I'm so Texan) and almost always liked the blonde ones, but the Marquis has dark brown hair and plays what he calls real football (soccer), a great sense of humor and the sweetest man I've ever known--as sweet as my dad is to my mom (I have a sneaky feeling he asks my dad for tips--they're very close).:giggle::love: I have two younger sisters and my dad is just so happy to have his first son (-in-law).

I found the photo deep on her FB page! I was trying to remember how long they had been together, and wow, long time!

The Marquis sounds gorgeous and wonderful!!

I love tall!! My sons are both 6'3, I have a 3 nieces that are 5'10, 6', and 6'3, and the 2 tallest have partners that are 6'10 men! It makes me feel so short at 5'9"!!

@Marquis de Potpourri One day I'd love to hear how Sabbat is observed and practiced. I love learning about practices like this.

I think the nicest thing about Anne Marie is his calm voice and I observe his kindness. He seems to have a gentleness to him without being a walk over. Agree with others re humour. Kindness goes a long way also. He is such a refreshing addition to the vlogs.

RE IMHO kicking roosters out of his workshop - they don't belong in there and it should never have been encouraged that they freely roam around.

The Manor and Maker trailer made me cringe because they are missing the X factor and trying too hard. I got sucked into CD because despite being initially put off by Stephanie's demeanour I quickly got curious about her because it is such an unusual life trajectory. Same, in smaller part, Michael DIO. And it's why I read here because while I feel way more favourably towards SJ than the posters here, I want all the dots to draw the lines because I am nosey af.

The other two are a chubby middle aged couple with zero mystery and while I'm sure they're perfectly nice, who cares? I'm half of a chubby middle aged couple 3 years into our own exciting life dream journey and I'd love the biccies thrown SJ's way to accelerate what we can achieve. But I know while our friends and family love us, we are not that interesting and I don't wanna put in what successful creators do to get that cash, it'd be a distraction even on the really long shot you hit gold like CD or other lifestyle vloggers. I reckon they'll quickly give it up when their connection to CD doesn't parlay into even the success MW has scraped together.

A: "I spoke more French in England with my family than I now do in France ..."

I like these two!

@Nopr I agree with your comments re M&M. They don't appear to need to renovate their chateau, instead focusing on their creative pursuits. Will be interesting to see how they go.

I could have gone with something from my saga of the missing tattlers but it seems 2 of them have been found and they weren't even NEAR the Bermuda Triangle!!!

Best post of this thread!

Don't forget: Have you had my parcel? I sent 12 pairs of handknitted knickers for darling Stephanie, to keep her warm but I haven't seen them opened yet. Can you check that the mice haven't got into the parcel as I also sent 6 packets of custard creams as they were on offer in the Co-op. Did you like the portrait of Mummy painted in Nutella on wholewheat toast?

Aaahhhh mhhhhh ooohhhh oooaaahhhhhh huuuurrggg I can’t take anymore… no please stop stop that is way timmuch than I can handle…

how my back hurts.

Thanks for all your lovely amazing messages. Was quiet interesting in the toy department. Hundreds of board games for kids up to adults, Lego, playmobil, seasonal stuff, creative toys,… but the staff was very nice and helpfully.

That dickpet, sounds like Brian/Ryan.

Honoured to have helped inaugurate our newest VIP @Phoenix Richards-Bingham . Thank you @MojoDublin for creating the new thread.

I am undecided whether to take a look at the latest Grifter Gubbins. The non business in an undisclosed area by the non Cr8tve duo. Their tag M&M seems to be from the popular show Mr and Mrs or the crunchy sweet! Copyright?

Have a heavy few weeks coming up with various projects, so will drop in when I can. The run upto Christmas won't plan itself. Be prepared Tattlers! Be prepared!

The Marquis' Fiancee here:

Danmaury is now my favorite YouTube couple! :giggle: Who knew that watching two blokes in a van talking about the most random things would be so refreshing?

We have to watch out that nuff said doesn't read anything into this. A banter a day keeps the nay sayers away. 🤣

I think that a great sense of humour is one of the most attractive features in a man and these two have that in bucketfuls. I want someone who makes me laugh - looks fade.
When I was younger, "my type" was moody, dark, curly hair (think Cat Stevens, etc) but my husband was clean cut and blond (still fairly blond with grey after being married for 44 yrs) and everyone used to comment that he looked like a young Robert Redford.
I laugh every day with Mrs G. She is a good foot shorter than I am and I would say her looks haven't faded in my eyes. We all change as we get older, a fine wine should never be rushed, but savoured and cherished over a lifetime.

From the previous thread : (Thanks for another new thread !)

"i am not a geography expert, but he often does when going to Ikea. He probably crosses the Switzerland boarder somewhere and then re-enters France to be faster?"

Dan and family live in Berry (Creuse departement).

Far far far away from Switzerland !

Anyway, at the border with France, Switzerland is a French speaking country. The German speaking part of Switzerland is at the other side of the country.

They go to IKEA in Clermont-Ferrand (2 hours drive by motoway).

PS : When you go abroad, your phone settings don't change to another language.

I love love love the Two Men in a Van podcast - naturally funny, nice little personal snippets of day to day thoughts - well done Dan for not humiliating Amaury when he was busting to pee, just enough to show the funny side of the situation!.. good job both of you! 👍

Re the trip itself, someone earlier was making a few digs on the necessity, and Dan going: my thoughts:
1. Amaury said he needed to go back to England to get his woodwork equipment
2. If they do get radiators, I read the system is English not French, so thats probably a good call
3. Its nicer to travel a long way with a buddy and they are great together, plus Dan can help lift the heavy stuff

Not to derail but I do so wish I could find something on You Tube or a forum about family history. Every time I book a night school on it it gets cancelled. I am dying with curiosity about great grandparents who are not spoken about, one of which I have named the floozy (although she might not be). I've even seen where she lived on a Fred Dibnah programme!!
Quote

Can you be more precise about what you're wanting of family history? To find out about your own family? Or something more general? (TBH I'm not sure what a night school can really show you

that you can't do already!)
If you're looking specifically for your own recent British ancestors (from 1837 when registration was made compulsory) you could start here
FREE BMD - https://www.freebmd.org.uk/
FREE CEN - https://www.freecen.org.uk/
(I've transcribed many census and other records for these two).
FAMILY SEARCH - https://www.familysearch.org/en/

If you haven't already watched these, I'd recommend:
Who do you think you are? (
UK TV series on notable people's family history - it's a bit light and doesn't show much how to DIY in depth)
Finding your roots
(Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jnr - US TV series on notable people's family history - shows how proper research is done and use of DNA testing. I really like this one, Prof Gates is a proper academic and usually gets to the heart of things!)

Note that all these programmes invariably become tearjerkers! It's often very moving when you find real evidence of your forebears and some of the facts of their lives and struggles.

Enjoy

Thanks for your extensive reply Sami Lee
I would like to join with like-minded people in a class or something so we can bounce off each other.
I will look at what you have suggested. I have been on a site similar to Ancestry and printed off birth, marriage. death and census records but although I am not nosy I do want to know why, both for general as well as family history I sussed out through watching Who Do You Think You Are that my great grandparents didn't marry straight away as one or both was already married. I even went to mediums as I have a photo which everyone thinks is me but it is over a 100 years old and my ancestors on the other side told me to not search online but visit graveyards and where they used to live and also to get family records and photos from a family member as his wife would destroy them out of spite. When I got these records there was a letter in there which made me bawl as it was so beautiful and which made me understand a relative's behaviour due to the terrible burden placed on him as a male child. Through my family tree search I can see a thread running through the family as to why my dad is interested in certain things and chose the job he did - like osmosis. It's fascinating. Sorry for waffling on but thanks for your help. ♥

Yeah you're right. Selmar being just a volunteer/new employee may have not felt assertive enough to stop the habit.

Hi Marquis fiancé. My husband of 34 years and I are similar heights to you. I gave up heels years ago as I will never reach his height. Buying clothes for a 6'6" man (or woman) here in Ireland is slowly getting easier but choice is rubbish, he loved shopping in the US.

Ireland has a tiny Jewish population (about 2k) and I had school friends back in the 70's. Unfortunately a lot of them leave to towns like Manchester in the UK to meet partners from the same faith which I understand is the preferred. If this is too much please don't answer I am just interested in how the marquis family are with you.

Watched the part in Dan's vlog when Amaury explains his bilinguism. That exactly what is happening in our family (2 languages spoken : english and french).
Kids speak a fluent french with mum and a fluent english with dad and in french to each others (they go to a local english speaking school).

What a difference with our Chatelaine upbringing.... Don't know why did Isabelle reject her French side that much...

Interesting to hear Amaury speaking of the Lalande community... To be continued IMO.

Morning Tattlers. Just caught up. Loved the D and A vlog. I could listen to A all day.
I’m a diddy 5 foot 2 and have always dated men at least 6 foot tall. I wonder if subconsciously I want to feel protected??
Our ancestors are fascinating. I posted an article from The Times in a previous thread about my G G G Grandfather who was a serial bigamist and left his poor wife to die! Very proud of him obviously! Also another interesting story is my G Grandmother. She married a man, had a child with him, he went off to fight in the First World War and sadly died. So she married his younger brother and had my grandfather. So my grandfather’s brother was also his cousin! I believe it happened a lot at that time. I think it also happened in our royal family.
Watched Chateau DIY yesterday and I’m sure they said the flurries paid 900 euros for their chateau. Seems a lot considering it needed work.

With Manor and Maker's new introduction, I have to wonder if Derek Jarvis' kitchen porn tiles are finished??? That is what was said one month ago.
I fear, Sewist Sara may not know how an old treadle sewing machine works (@1:17 in their intro flog). Timing is everything. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. How many CD spin offs will there be??? Oversaturation tends to devalue your product and it never ends well. We shall see.

From CD's 9/5/21 live chat...

Melina Jones @Manor and Maker Now, I have a very important question for you : have you guys decided if you were going to give us a grand tour on your own channel?
Manor and Maker @melina Jones we're still working on it...
Manor and Maker @melina Jones the answer is 'probably'... I am just working up the courage (Steve is all in... I am more wary of the average internet user)
Melina Jones @jetje goes dutch Maybe could get Sarah @Manor and Maker to get Steve on it…
Manor and Maker @melina Jones @jetje goes dutch i missed what it was... but whatever it was comes after the tiles!
Manor and Maker @melina Jones @jetje goes dutch see? tiles first! (after the full time job, freelance work, moving in....)

The career changing 🤷‍♀️, lipstick naming💄, photographer 📸, yoga guru 🧘‍♀️, chateau shopper 🏰, is, promoting herself using the Lalande sheep and rams. 🐑🐏 (They look confused.) Maybe, Celeste R will be able to help her??? 🤪
