I have had a few disappointing curly cuts too, I now go to a local hairdresser who isn’t a curl specialist but cuts my hair dry and freehand and it’s the best cut I have ever had. I have been tempted to cut my own but am nervous after a few disastrous attempts in my teens😂
It’s difficult to find a good curl specialist as most hairdressers seem to have been trained only in straight hair cutting. I’m not dexterous at all about cutting my own hair so made sure to do the simplest cutting technique on dry hair and ‘less is more’ approach. My daughter helped with tidying up my back to make sure it was all even.
I am very conscious about my hair which has thinned out in my 40s and feel it doesn’t need anything complicated done to it. Over the years I’ve had some decent haircuts but also some that have been a total waste of money. I’m not trying to diss all hairdressers, but genuinely don’t think the money a haircut costs around here is worth the effort it takes to trim my hair.

I went to the hairdresser that all the hairdressers go to for their own hair and realised it was a bloke I'd gone to years before, when he worked in a department store.
He said my hair should only be cut with a razor and I went from Shirley Williams hair i.e. uncontrollable to blissful hair. 😄 However, I had to move to his assistant as she was better with longer hair.

Any mascara recommendations?
Never tried it but there was a thread here where people were raving about Lash Princess - available at Wilko
Aldi sells a dupe for Benefit mascara called Too Legit (lol) and it's as good as the original
I use Bourjois Volume Glamour which is being sold at Superdrug again

Lash princess is bloody MARVELLOUS. I’m gutted as Wilko used to be the seller of it and when they announced they were shutting shops, I RAN down there to stock up but everyone else had had the same idea as there was nothing left! 😢

You can still get it on Amazon and eBay ... fingers crossed it goes into another shop

Maybelline sky high. The waterproof one doesn’t budge and I have very hooded eyes.
Definitely second this, you can get a three pack on asos for £26 which is a good price
I picked up a set recently when they had discount code and I paid just over £19 for three.
I also like primark mascaras but if you find one you like, then stock up as you never seem to see them again
They did a sky high dupe and it was amazing for the price, never saw it in any store again so lesson learned with that.

My skin is quite red and blotchy and I have a big event this week. Any emergency something I can use please

I tried lash princess after so many raves here but I had panda eyes by 3pm 😔 don’t know if I’m doing something wrong?! My eyes aren’t even that leaky.

Got it from justmylook too x

Would love to know how much people spend on their haircuts and how often?
€54 (gone up to €56.50 for next visit) every 6 or 7 weeks for wash, curly cut and blowdry or curly set under heat lamp thingy.
My previous hairdresser was much cheaper but I never had a decent haircut in all the years I went to her so 🤷

My mum was a hairdresser before she retired, she taught me how to cut my hair and colour it so I do it myself.

Another vote for sky high mascara!

I've had some odd hairdressing appointments in my time, I think it's just the culture of the salon you go to. There was one place that would chop inches off when you asked for a light trim. They also had a dog wandering about the place and staff were getting their hair done at the same time as taking clients. Another place I went to for years as a teenager used to have the staff complaining about other salons and gossiping. They would also be on their phone while they were doing your hair and make you wait for an hour after your appointment time. At another, more expensive salon, I got told my hair was straight when it's actually curly

The place I go to now are much more professional and they're great at dealing with things like hair loss, scalp conditions etc.

I could never understand why I couldn't grow long hair until I got to my current stylist where it has magically grown long. 🙄
She won't let you go around looking a sight, though. She'll always tell you if it won't look good, but she tries to let you have what you want. Within reason of course. 😄

I grew out my greys about 7 years ago and have waist length hair that I trim myself. I do not miss the $ and time spent at the hairdresser. No judgement on those who enjoy it, it just always felt forced and unpleasant for me. I would go every 6-8 weeks for trim and root touch up or colour. About £80-100 back then, more expensive now.

I've booked an appointment at a new hairdresser in a little under two weeks and according to their homepage, it'll be the most expensive cut I've ever gotten at 60€ (wash, cut, dry).

I went a couple of times to a woman I quite liked, but I felt a little pressured into buying a committing to coming in more often. I typically cut my hair only two or three times a year, I enjoy having it at different lengths and being able to do things with it when it has grown out a little, but didn't feel I could explain that. I also didn't like the way she cut my fringe, I do a better job myself.
Then went to a very plain-looking salon, thinking that if it didn't look flashy but had great reviews, the man must know his work. Very outdated inside, but I thought I mustn't judge. The guy got the appointment time wrong, but then still took me on. The haircut wasn't bad at all, but I was put off by the constant chat with another guy about how much better people without university education are, because they know how to work. I had told him what I do for a living and he even asked me how to get into that job, hence me explaining what I studied  then got charged a bit more than indicated at the beginning because I have so much hair. So despite the good cut, I'm not going back.

I asked someone whose hair I liked and that's how I finally settled with a hairdresser.
