Also, this is all making me think of what happened with the Korean Englishman and Gabie Kook.
I really recommend reading about the controversy. They had very big audiences in Korea with really big names in both Korea and outside featuring on their channels (I remember them having Arnold Shwarznegger on there and the Kpop group NCT 127) (so different to Jade in that regard as there are much higher expectations of them). But after breaking the Covid rules (they welcomed (masked) friends at the door for Gabie's birthday and Gabie took her mask off), there has been huge outrage.
It is very interesting to see how a small flout in the rules (it is small compared to what we've seen UK influencers do) has provoked so much outrage. To the point where it provoked a petition on the South Korea parliament website and Gabie Kook's channel is devoid of all videos now. I recommend this video
to learn more about it.
This happened in October and I'm surprised this hasn't affected Jade's decision to go to South Korea. If she had actually researched any videos about South Korea on Youtube, the Korean Englishman channel is so popular that is bound to have seen them. How can she not understand how seriously they are taking the restrictions and how many sacrifices people have made? And also how much outrage is caused when a public figure flouts the rules, even to a small extent. Also, recommend reading about the 97 liners (who are some of the most popular male kpop idols) controversy with Dispatch which highlights this even more. Even if Jade and the other Minervans that went to South Korea were not aware of how strict people are about coronavirus, surely Minerva would?
(I don't live in South Korea nor am I Korean so all I know about this is from videos I've seen on Youtube, so I'm not the most qualified to talk about it - I don't intend to generalise what Koreans think regarding Covid and am aware my perspective is not from personal experience so if any Koreans/people living in South Korea could corroborate this information, that would be great
