I work in local government and the process is planned well in advance. There is national guidance issued by the palace and we follow that and use it to structure our own communications plan for the coming days. Our plan is reviewed every six months or so to ensure it’s up to date and revised any time there’s a change in our area like a new council in place etc or a new chief exec. We basically have a checklist to follow and all our public figure statements and graphics are written and approved ahead of time so when the call comes in it’s just a case of pressing the button.

no matter how old they are it just gets to me something awfulTotally agree - happier times indeed,I always feels weirdly triggered when I see footage on tv from 2011-12 - it feels like such a different time when everything felt so happy and light, the royal wedding, the 2012 Olympics etc it felt like such a joyous time and just so different to how life has felt recently
it’s okay to feel unsure and anxious when we are going through so many changes and uncertainty, I try to remain hopeful that better and happier days are comingI hope everyone is okay x

What a selfless soul. Even if you are born into privilege, I cannot imagine having a life where you are of service in such a manner and my goodness did she do it well! A very sad day indeed.

My mom died in January. She was two weeks away from her 98th birthday. I asked her a few months before she died what she thought of the Queen. She said she was so pretty. Absolutely.. Today I wondered how many times over the last 70 years she just wanted to walk away from it all.. but bless her, she never gave up and gave it her all. Dedicated to the end
I never realised how pretty the queen was when she was younger probably as I only knew her when she was old
I used to harbour a lot of resentment to the British monarchy, considering the history of British colonialism in Ireland. However, over time I have come to the realisation that Queen Elizabeth made significant contributions and determined efforts to advancing peace and reconciliation between our two island. I can still remember watching her speech in 2011 (during her first official state visit to Ireland) in which she opened by addressing everybody in the Irish language. It was an unexpected gesture that genuinely spoke volumes, and symbolised how much the relationship between our two countries has transformed over time.
My sympathies go out to her family members, and I hope that her successors will assist in continuing the long and ongoing work of reconciliation between Ireland and the United Kingdom.

If I'm frightfully honest, I'm quite indifferent to it all. Never really had an affinity towards the Queen, to me she was just the face on stamps and money. I'm not a Republican but honestly...meh.

Well she'd been in declining health for a while, that's why Charles was there. Probably just took a turn and that was it. People just go like that, especially at her age. I don't think it was unexpected; I think she knew it was coming and that's why she chose to be at Balmoral. I think losing her husband last year also played a part. Elderly people who lose a partner they've been with for a long time tend to go not long after they've passed.
I’ve managed to hold it together all day, but I came to bed at around 1am and just broke my heart. I am a Royalist, I must admit, and I really don’t know how to process this news.
My own Great Granny is 91. She reminds me so much of the Queen, so today has really hit home that I could soon be facing the reality of losing her.
I live nearly 200 miles away from her, but I always find the time to visit her when I am home. I’m home at the moment, and on Sunday I will be giving her the biggest hug I’ve ever given anyone in my life. And just pray that I will be able to hug her again the next time I am home
