It's extremely tempting to say 'Oh I never believed Isabelle6541' when there's evidence to the contrary - likes love and laughter over her posts. I for one did believe her and wanted her venture to be a success. And now I feel like I too have fallen for a con-artist, despite telling her from the begining that her plans wouldn't work. I believed Isabelle6541 until she said she and her compatriots were taking their lawyers with them. Who the duck does that?! That's when it all stopped being plausible for me and I said so. It was amateur and sloppy. Really, who TF travels with their lawyer as their plus one all the way to France? It's not just the fee, but expenses of car hire, food and accommodation, transfers, flights etc. She'd have to be Richie Rich rich to afford that. I did it once. I went 6 kilometres, spent three hours in my lawyer's company and it cost me £4000. I ended up eating cheese on toast for a month as a result! Ah well, at least it was a decently expensive French cheese 🤣. Remember it was not just one lawyer travelling with them, it was several. Isabelle6541 is full of tit. She was always full of tit. And she remains full of tit, under what ever guise she's currently inhabiting.

Interesting, the bully is listed as Madame Oliveto. Have we ever heard of or met the husband? And this has to predate her relationship with Bun Boy.
In France once a woman reaches a certain age (never been able to ascertain what that age is but definitely over 30) she is automatically referred to as Madame. This does not necessarily mean she is married. It's a maturity/status thing. Dick Emery would have kittens!

As I had been following along with the Chateau Diaries since it began some years ago, I was beyond excited to actually have the opportunity to stay in the chateau and meet the inhabitants! Stephanie and Phillip were absolutely charming hosts and chatted freely to all of the guests. Nati was friendly, attentive and greeted us warmly upon our arrival

Thanks for that @shatcho shiek. Would be really interested to know how recently that review was posted as I can't see a date.
But, Sharon D, my dear. No prices mentioned, e.g. single/double occupancy rates, outside of a complimentary continental breakfast being served, well it is marketed as a B&B at the end of the day, isn't it?
What did dinner cost?
The tennis court is not maintained and totally overgrown so, basically, off limits/unusable.
AND, none of the fireplaces in the chateau should ever have been used, no matter when you visited, simply because they have never been professionally swept, so have always been dangerous and also a health hazard to any guests/occupants at the HMN/not to mention "uninsured" fire hazards.

Just out of interest, shouldn't the HMN have fire doors on each floor's entry/exit points? I have never actually seen any!

I think it's an honorific even for single ladies of a certain age?
Ah @billybudd as always you have made the explanation much clearer and more simplistic than I. Thank you and Kudos. I find I'm not speaking any of the languages I know particularly well these days. Not even my maternal tongue!

modern slavery is defined as the recruitment, movement, harbouring or receiving of children, women or men through the use of force, coercion, abuse of vulnerability, deception or other means for the purpose of exploitation.

Anything above fit?
Not legally. She isolates her volunteers, as narcs are prone to do, from friends and family, provides no scheduled transportation for those who do not have their own, starves them per Clara's amazing email from a Workaway volunteer, on Isabelle's principles, gives no days off, worked them far beyond Workaways' stipulation of five hours a day (ditto Isabelle), permitted one to rant homophobic abuse against the then-caretakers, Ivo and Frank, because Isabelle was getting free electrician labor from the volunteer's father, causing Frank and Ivo to resign. She switches and baits, saying oh of course you will be employed to work within your range of talent and expertise, on restoration, and instead sets volunteers to work cleaning guest rooms, private areas, and doing the b n b laundry. She sleeps with them. It is questionable she has workman's health and injury insurance, fire insurance covering resident paid workers/volunteers, and whether she pays into proper social security accounts for her paid workers.
Clara recently shared an email circulated by Stephanie, who found it hilarious, from a Workaway volunteer talking about how, precisely, little food Isabelle was feeding them. It was shocking, and I finally understood what must have been the ethos for the Jarvis nursing homes -- no food, and no heat.

Does anybody follow Journey to the Chateau de Colombe? They live approx 10/15 minutes from the HMN and have been featured in SJ's vlogs too. I really do like them. They get things done!
Well, last night their vlog was all about preparing the Chateau for the winter. Guess what, rather a long interlude in connection with cleaning their fireplaces, chimney sweeping and delivery of logs etc. I instantly thought that they were having a dig at SJ. :ROFLMAO:

a little. Open Mind!

Like every other N on this planet, SJ twists everything and therefore, absolutely nothing is transparent. That's exactly how she likes it too. Her mother taught her well.
I agree, someone from the DWP (UK) should be door stepping the HMN.
Is Maria actually still a volunteer? I thought she was being paid as chef for the season, who really knows? If she is, then her wages should come out of the B&B. And what will happen to her once the season is over, she has been there for months, well before the season started.
Natti should defo be paid via the B&B business too.
Amaury, maybe via the Patreon account as "allegedly" he is doing restoration/renovation - never too sure which, as he also acts like the Shitoo "go to" handyman/gardener/whatever hat he wears on any given day!
And, whatever happened to the appointment of the Shitoo's general handyman as SJ recently mentioned?
Nic the tree man, poss Patreon but, could maintaining the grounds/forestry element really be considered as restoration/renovation, or just day-to-day upkeep of the Shitoo's land? Therefore 100% part of any charlatan's/part owners' responsibility?
God only knows, where the wages for Dan and the 3 gardeners is skimmed off from!

Let's not forget, that the next 1/2000 plants should be arriving soon so that the forest deer/rabbits/peacocks/Uncle Tom Cobley and all can have a delicious "expensive" feast at the Patrons' expense. :ROFLMAO:
Maria seems very sensible. I suspect she'll get the hell out of there. Anyway, once their B&B is closed for the season then theoretically her work is done.
At that point Phillipa takes over. I bought a copy of larousse gastronomique this afternoon. I'm may gift it to him 😁

My guess would be some kind of untreated behavioral condition. Some are fixed with medication, others with therapy, others require both.
Lack of discipline, he is the type of person who would need a regimen to stick to otherwise he runs out of steam and procrastinates. The fact he has no real responsibilities, such as a job to turn up to, is hindering him. He needs structure and someone to answer to.

I relate to him quite a bit which is why I am less forgiving of the tit he keeps pulling.
I agree with you.
I think he gives far too much credence to what others think/feel about him, i.e. very low self esteem, perhaps? Therefore, YT may not ultimately be the correct platform for someone like him because you have to have a really thick skin and absolutely no conscious - just like Stephanie Jarvis has, in order to ignore, survive and carry on regardless.
I have always been confused as to why Michael and SJ are no longer friends.

I thought any repairs they were doing were just that repairs until they are permitted to in the longer term to make changes. So removing all the lead pipes at the moment isn't an option.
In most countries, works on listed buildings are permitted when they were deemed as dangerous to life and limb. Corroded lead pipes and lead contaminated water fall under that heading. Is it different in Spain? I don't know anything about their rules and regs.

Perhaps someone familiar with French fire safety rules or perhaps a visitor to Lalande could answer my question which occurred to me while I stayed in a period house last weekend for a wedding because they didn't have a plan of the building showing fire exit route on the inside of my bedroom door. Is this a requirement in France and does SJ comply?

This is the blurb on Trip Advisor where Sharon from Australia left a glowing comment in Aug 2022.
The Chateau de Lalande, a magnificent 16th century chateau, lies nestled in the heart of France, amidst rolling meadows, ancient hedgerows and woodland. This corner of the Berry was described by the romantic novelist, George Sand, as La Vallée Noire, an enchanting earthly paradise. Rooms offer views of the surrounding landscape or garden. All rooms have a private bathroom with bath or shower and guests can benefit from the complimentary toiletries provided. A free continental breakfast is served each morning and guests can enjoy a home-made meal prepared by the host if ordered in advance. Additional facilities include a games room, tennis court and a lounge with an open fire.

There appears to be a few iffy statements in it.
Guests can enjoy a home made meal prepared by the host. The only time Fanny cooks a meal is if all other avenues open to her have been closed. Ie Maria, Dan, Dana, FRK have left the building.
The additional facilities such as a games room is I am assuming referring to the big room that had a billiard table in it until a couple of months ago. As both the room and the table have been out of bounds for over 12 months now, that statement is obsolete.
The last sighting of the tennis court was when Nic was felling trees and they were landing on it’s outer fence. Making that a no go area but in all honesty there has never been any evidence that this area was used for tennis in any of the vlogs.
Lounge with a open fire. Surely Fanny four flues has not been breaking the law by using chimneys that have been confirmed as illegal.
Also on trip advisor the shittoo is listed as an hotel and one of trip advisors provisos is that an hotel must provide reception staff 24/7. (Maybe an opportunity for smugmug there).
All these half truths on trip advisor should be cleaned up, they were quick enough to remove a genuine comment from @missartemis they should also ensure who they are promoting does not promise what they can’t provide.

I dont don't know why older people hoard or hang on to tons of stuff. In the end you can't take it with you.
I'm already handing down stuff to people I want to have it and I'm just in my 60's.
When I was younger STUFF mattered more because you think you have so much time and you really don't. "Life it but a Vapor" Its all goes by so fast then you're dead. All your stuff is still here for people to fight over.
It any with you, that for sure. Let stuff go. Well, aren't I just a barrel of sunshine today
I honestly don't feel it is simply a case of older people, I personally know quite a few young people who are already hoarders.
I am around the same age as you and when I downsized last year, I emptied out a huge house of some fabulously pristine/expensive/vintage/
collectible items, most of which I had bought or had been gifted throughout my life, BUT, I had never ever actually used. But, because it was a huge house, it never appeared cluttered or in any sense on the hoarder spectrum. I took me months to either sell/gift to others and/or donate. AND, the reward was that I made well in excess of £15,000 in the process. Great result from just stuff that was sitting around in my last home.
Let alone what the charities gained from my donations too!
My new home is 100% minimalistic and I am extremely happy with that - less cleaning etc. :D
Apart from family photos. Most of which I have written on the reverse as to who they are in my family's history, simply so that my son will have a record of his ancestors whenever he feels old enough to delve into that for himself. ❤

You may be wrong here unless there are no employment protections in France which I find hard to believe.
Of course there are employment protections in France. And yes she is breaking multiple laws. But what does she care? She is not a workaway host nor a helpx host. Nor, as far as I know is she a host of any other help exchange program. She doesn't use employment agencies either. Who's going to tell... Their volunteers contact them directly and, as far as they're concerned, they're about to have the adventure of their life at the chateau with their heroine dancing in the kitchen. They are chomping at the bit. What do they care for any silly employment laws that France may have. It does not concern them. And besides, why would the four flued one lie to them about such things? They adore her.

The rather odd girl from Canada - Cara was it? She went for the adventure of her life, dancing in the kitchen and left somewhat abruptly. But she's still all over the live chats and comments on YouTube. These fans are, sadly, rabid. If she told them black was white they would believe her.

France do not like organisations like workaway and helpx because France gets nothing out of it. They have tried, unsuccessfully so far, to shut them down. And yet these organisations are giving volunteers protection over work abuse.
