It really really bugs me when influencers act as if people forget that they don't get a maternity leave because they're not employed, as if it'll duck them over finically when in reality it's a great deal more flexibility and income that the majority of people get when they're employed. I think they do it to look relatable when actually it makes them look out of touch.
One of the top influencers in Finland had a baby last August and took a "maternity leave" (drastically cut down on content and put some side projects on hold) for the rest of the year. She ended up having her biggest turnover ever last year. I am not saying that she had a great year because of the baby but rather despite the baby, as influencer marketing was thriving in 2020. However, she did have quite a few lucrative baby brand deals, so having a baby probably didn't hurt her business.

This is why people like Lily and Anna kind of piss me off. Lily has been complaining ever since she had Grey that brands have dropped her because she's had a baby – conveniently not mentioning that she has also gained a lot of new partnerships. Anna saying that she will have zero income after having the baby is just ridiculous when there are entrepreneurs (hairdressers, cleaners, etc) who physically cannot work after having a baby and are literally on zero income. Anna and Lily can work part time, get loads of passive income and have had years to save for this occasion from their great earnings. So the "woe is me, I am being punished for having a baby" act is wearing thin.

On the whole ‘punished for having a baby’ issue, I just can’t help but feel it’s a massive sign of privilege that they’ve got to that age and never felt excluded by a brand ... I can’t believe that they’ve never realised that most brands sell themselves to a certain type of person who lives a certain type of lifestyle, and for a lot of higher-end brands their target market is young, slim (white ...) female professionals, and anyone who’s larger or pregnant is generally not the target market. Being surprised that your favourite brand of jeans only goes up to a 14/16 or whatever and then feeling shocked that you’re excluded when you can’t physically fit into them anymore just blows my mind. You’d think something like that might make them realise that they’ve been part of an industry that actively excludes anyone outside of a small group, but no - all we hear is how unfair it is for them.

In the podcast, Anna mentioned that a part of why she waited a little longer to tell people was because there were quite a lot of pregnant women in their industry at the moment. That makes sense as you definitely wouldn't want to steal anyone else's thunder etc, but the way she worded it surprised me. She couldn't handle it if anyone made a comment about "yet another one" because that would be directed at HER BABY. I don't know, I guess i'm just really surprised she couldn't have a sense of humour about that? She admits she/they are in the age bracket where lots of people will be having them, so surely there will be more after her too? So why get so obsessed/worried about the slightest bit of not completely positive feedback on yours? How could anyone rational let that affect their pregnancy experience? Seemed a bit like she wanted the perfect amount/type of attention for her big reveal and was a bit miffed she couldn't get it.

I have to admit, I think am very much like Anna. I like to keep things to myself until they're done, so I rarely tell people my plans, I will just tell people when the thing is done. This is mostly because I don't like being asked how things are going while I'm doing them and also incase things don't go to plan. I also, in a very ironic way, value modesty (I think it's the coolest thing ever) so always try to appear modest and "oh, little old me?" even though it's some what manufactured. Not a great personality trait I admit, I'm not proud of it as it's not modesty if you want credit for being modest lol. I feel like Anna is like this too.

I don't have an issue with Anna keeping things under wraps. I am a private person myself, so I actually completely understand this. The problem is that she actively lies in order to keep her secrets. She has done this a few times now, saying things like it is her 'dream to one day have a garden,' when she has just completed on a house with a large garden; or saying she has her period and talking about kids like they are very very far off in the future, when she is, in fact, pregnant. It's not that she's trying to keep things private that's the problem, it's that she actually seems to take pleasure in deceiving her audience. I mean, nobody ever asked her if it was her dream to one day have a garden. Nobody asked her if she had her freakin' period. She could say nothing on these issues - but she seems to like lying. That's the problem.

As for negative feedback. Anna does not do negative feedback. Somebody recently pointed out that her desk was facing the wrong way and she deleted the comment! She wants Good Vibes Only!

I think she's become pretty insufferable.

Big love to everyone who supported my last post and shared their own TTC stories.

Comments like "the majority of people do get pregnant in the first few tries" (taken from this thread) are unhelpful and untrue. Infertility affects 1 in 6 couples - and 3.5 million people in the UK. It's more common than type 2 diabetes.

Whilst I agree Lily and Anna absolutely shouldn't apologise for conceiving quickly, what I'm hearing about them "nailing it" is making me spit feathers. There are a lot of people going through this journey and we shouldn't be made to feel like failures just because we have a medical condition. A little respect wouldn't go amiss from these influencers, because if they insist on selling out on their pregnancy they could at least acknowledge how privileged they are to be able to do so.

Didn't she do an Insta story the day after the reveal, about comments upsetting her that were along the lines of "Oh I knew you're pregnant when...", and ended that story with a patronizing "But I know it's all meant with good intentions blah blah"? She is angry that people were onto her at a time when a) SO many influencers are pregnant and b) as you said she's at an age and stage in her life where having babies isn't unheard of? Especially for someone who lives their life ticking off milestones, like her and Lily do.

The OP you're quoting has agree with all of those points and how insensitive it was to say that

Haha, so she's simultaneously giving herself a pat on the back about how well she deceived her viewers, but then upset that people were on to her? Er...this is delusional. She really does wish her audience are all dummies who can't think for themselves.

I bet she was so pissed off when Zoe Sugg announced her pregnancy 😂

Probably but I've always wondered why they've never hung out together? Both of them have lived in Brighton for a few years now.
I remember thinking the same thing when Lily and Anna visited Zoe for their podcast. They made it seem as if they were the biggest pals, talking about knowing each other forever, but apart from one vlog years ago I can't remember them ever being together. Back then I thought that Zoe was too immature for them, but nowadays I realise that Anna is not exactly mature either

She mentioned DM'ing Zoe recently to talk about baby stuff. The Newtons might find themselves on the invite list for the gazebo sometime soon!

I think part of the issue for me is that I don’t really believe 100% that the pregnancy was kept quiet because of a genuine desire for privacy. I think a big part of it was for business reasons - having to complete brand deals and knowing that certain brands are less likely to work with someone who’s pregnant. Anna’s comment about a lot of people in the industry being pregnant at the moment came over to me as more concern about competition for sponsorship and possible brand deals rather than a worry about viewer saturation. Also, as a ‘mummy/baby vlogger’ she’s probably not going to get quite such glamorous deals and products offered to her and that‘s probably stung a bit too.

Absolutely. They’re very savvy under all that goofy relatability. This is their business and pays for their lifestyle so all decisions will link back to this.

Btw did anyone see she’s selling her camel whistles coat, the one she said she’d keep forever? I actually was influenced to buy that, what a douche 🙄

I mean, don’t kick me out of the thread 🙈, but I kind of get this one? Like if she wasn’t ready to talk about being pregnant and didn’t want to share any of that yet and there were a bunch of comments saying/speculating that she was pregnant I think I would delete them too? idk or remember the timing of that video so how early she was, and I’m sure there are better ways to go about it but people on here clocked/started saying she was pregnant fairly early just from her face and larger boobs so idk if deleting the comments makes it more obvious/suspicious (I personally never see comments until like a day later bc I’m in a different time zone and her videos have already been up for hours by the time I click and obviously wouldn’t know about deleted comments without coming on here and reading) but idk I guess I kinda get not wanting to leave them up for even more people to see and start speculating?
I think deleting them only made people who were already speculating more certain that she was pregnant... but of course I don't mean that she should have revealed it earlier than she wanted to. It's just that as someone else has said, she also deleted other comments from other videos - she won't accept anything that isn't pure praise and "good vibes"

Whenever Anna is talking in front of the mirror, wanna be influncer Mark has to hijack the shoot. If you know your wife is working, just go hide somewhere until she is done.
This is when I started getting annoyed with him and with Anna 🤣 Got to get involved and butt in, pffft off *waves hands like shooing a fly* ☺
