Thank You- that’s very well put! He is still beautiful regardless. I’ve never had a facial disfigurement but I have alopecia which is very hard to live with (I lost my hair due to severe iron deficiency when I had cancer and it never really grew back) so I have a lot of empathy with him. We have indeed got his back. 1 billion percent

The Savile thing, I think what a lot of people forget is that at the time, as daft as it sounds, it was common for older blokes in entertainment to have 'groupies' and girls (often underage) for parties etc. I know people who worked at the BBC at the time and Savile wasn't alone in this kind of behaviour. The darker stuff just seemed like exaggerated rumours to a lot of people.

Looking back at him in the 70s on TV doing Jim'll Fix It or TOTP it's almost impossible to believe that THAT was considered suitable for kids / teen TV. But it was, not many people looked beyond the eccentric charity fundraiser. Bizarre.

For those of us that are slightly older we know how things were then. You left school at 15/16 and went to work. To get married by 20 was not unusual. All things which seem very wrong these days. But not every girl was coerced. It was just the way of life.

Without getting all psychological about it, I suppose things moved at a faster pace then. Life expectancy wasn't so long. Having a baby definitely had a time scale and women weren't really expected to a full blown career.

I would think there are a lot of older celebs now thinking about girls they slept with that were 16 or at least looked 16. All of which no one would have battered an eyelid at the time but would now be horrified. Groupies were definitely a thing.

I think the childline thing was more about identifying potential victims who wouldn’t be believed, and were from vulnerable backgrounds - therefore ripe to abuse and exploit more. I’m horrified at all these posters laughing and sneering about it to be honest.
My relative was in a children’s home in the 70’s and there were a few boys that were taken out on the evenings by men in suits- with the full cooperation of the staff. My uncle says they all lived in absolute fear of being ‘picked’ and would act as mouthy and wild as possible as they seemed to prefer the quiet ones.
I’m confused why people think this is beyond the realms of possibility, I guess you’re lucky it seems so ridiculous.

That I have no trouble believing and we already know is true, the setting up of childline and crimewatch however just doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Re Justin Hawkins. I followed the band from before they broke big, Justin went a bit nuts but got clean and has a pretty good take on the industry. Settled down, had a couple of kids and can’t still put on an amazing show sober.
his brother Dan had testicular cancer a few years ago but recovered. Also a lovely guy, married with a couple of daughters, one of whom is diabetic and he does a lot of fund raising for them.

Justin is one of those exceptionally quick witted, huge personalities. I recall moaning at him once that he never turned up at any of the after parties I was at. He looked at me, smiled and said “Oh darling! I don’t go to any of those things’.
