Aaand this is the whole problem. We don’t trust anything she says any more.
She used to talk a lot about the importance of maintaining trust and I'm sure that was part of why I did trust her. This, for example, from an interview in 2015:

'I think you’re really thick if you’re not being straight with readers and YouTube viewers because you will get busted and it will cost your brand, it will cost you money, it will cost you work. So from my point of view it’s business sense. And that’s not cynical.'

Has it cost her though?

Remember that Goodreads review of Everything Is Washable that I posted earlier in the thread? It has now mysteriously disappeared…

👋🏼 waves to Sali and team (hi dickheads).

It might cost her eventually. All this talk of her ‘brand’ but it’s not really apparent what her brand is…from lacklustre beauty columns to oddball outfit selfies to a book of advice on things she’s not known to really specialise in to creating but not really creating her own brand of skin care that adds nothing to an over-saturated market. Throw in the increasingly blatant sponsored content that’s eating away gradually at her credibility.

She’s do well to get some advice on how to actually turn all of this into a coherent brand!

Do people often bother with taking minis on holidays anyway? Most skincare items are already in small 15-30g sizes. The only items I can think of taking as minis in the past are shampoo and conditioner and I tend to re-use the bottles as they are easy to open and clean. I cannot see the point of buying more plastic, a special brush (!!!) and a label maker (give me strength) for this very specific purpose. She is obsessed with creating reasons to buy more unnecessary tit.
Minis can be a nice way to try a new product to see if I like it. Less $$ invested. And if I like it, then I already have a refillable travel size on hand.

Imagine shelling out £23 for an etiquette book written by an expert shopper and founder of a beauty range and being confronted with a chapter on how to chop onions. Can’t wait to read the reviews 🤗
How does chopping onions fit in with etiquette? I'm American, please forgive my less than rarefied behavior. But really? There's a socially unacceptable way to chop onions? It it rude to cube?

What do we think is happening to She Here today? Could she be The Potato Marketing Board's first Spokesmodel?
Sister Wives International's Model of the Year. Yech.

Snoooooze. Pretty sure NY has plenty of juice bars and salads to choose from, no? Feel for her kids growing up with this woman's weird relationship to food.

Yeah. Folks are piling on about the dearth of vegetables in American dining and the way we do salads. Yes portion sizes are big. That's been done to death. Eating out for all your meals can give you a skewed diet. And America has veggies, NYC is the target of every market farm on the eastern seaboard. If you want vegetables, go get 'em.

I also find it funny that a slew of her followers are eagerly chiming in about the inedibility of American food. And portion size. Each one has a "tip" to share. But are Brits really the best group to lecture the world on healthful cuisine and the serving of vegetables? Better than your typical American? Maybe. But everyone on that thread sounds awfully provincial.

It's not an etiquette book - after all this is the woman who recommends applying makeup on a train and taking inexpensive brushes so if they fall on the floor, she doesn't need to pick them up! Also Super-Snippy Sal has hardly got the best manners herself!
It's one of those tips for women books that were everywhere about 20 years ago.
I'm expect chapters on:

- how to choose the cheapest crisps
-how to chin potatoes
-how to pose in a public lavatory
- how to go grey
-how to make minestrone
-how to get the sea to speak to you
-the best way to apply lipliner
- the importance of a maintenance shag

Honestly, even a decade ago, I’ve always eaten very well in NY. Super healthily, great variety (I’m also veggie). I didn’t even have to try. Yes I did have my fill of junk because it was delicious and I wanted it and actively sought it out 😂, but day to day, absolutely maybe easier than London.

I also was fine in various other parts of America, even in the south. Like literally every other country (Sali), each area has its different cuisine influences, but very easy to eat and also people are SO accommodating and polite and gracious, they won’t be long helping you with what you want.

I think it’s a lazy stereotype. Yes there’s junk, but theres also a fantastic food culture. We saw it in Paris, and probably other places too. She’s so closed minded.

Edit: sorry, I was very late to the party with my comment. I’ll just leave it here so I can, err, humble brag about my holiday, I guess *shrug*. As you were!
We are having a similar holiday soon, AI, hot place, beautiful backdrop but the plan is to lie around on a sun lounger reading books and relaxing. But, this particular place has limited WiFi and I don’t have roaming for this country so there will be no mirror selfies. This holiday is very much my present to myself for a challenging year at work and, embarrassingly, it could be anywhere in the world. I just wanted somewhere hot where there was a pool and a beach. We are exceptionally lucky that we have a second holiday planned elsewhere which is a ‘doing’ holiday. It’s a bucket list destination for me, and I will absolutely maximise the doing/seeing everything abilities at that one. But the thought of that at the moment makes me tired, haha!

Today’s column is all about make up setting sprays. Because when the weather is 30+ degrees out there, it’s still important to have a full face of make up and add another layer on top of that too.

Hahaa! I live in southern Europe and I honestly haven't worn any make up since about May I think. It's too hot and it doesn't look or feel good to have melting foundation. I wore eyeliner once to a rock gig and lipstick out for drinks but that's the absolute maximum you'd wear around here at this time of year.

Today’s column is basically a press release for Urban Decay setting sprays - no others warrant a mention. Will stop our makeup sliding off our faces like a Calippo off a solar panel apparently.

The smashbox one is pretty good, but I just don’t like the feel of setting sprays. Would only use on a big night out.

You've probably seen this but there have been some funny reviews for Urban Decay Allnighter - such as

Fell into a hot tub at a party – clothes and hair ruined but makeup survived!”

“I don’t remember the night but I woke up and my make up was still pretty good”

“i got dumped on this night out and even after half an hour of crying on the pub bathroom floor and 8 shots of tequila my makeup still stayed flawless , thank you urban decay.'

I am one of those people who feels uncomfortable not wearing makeup and will apply makeup in a heatwave, which I hate about myself. I totally see that it’s beyond stupid. I don’t even know how to get around this when in holiday. I’ve had a lash lift and tint so I don’t need mascara, but I’ve grown to hate my bare skin on my face, which is absurd. It’s not the best skin in the world but there is nothing objectively wrong with it. I have tried tinted sun cream but it looks really weird on me.

The temperature has dropped - must have dropped about 15 degrees to warrant a Breton. And she is eating chips. No vegetarian food to be had in Greece.
