Have you tried upping protein in your diet. I’ve found it’s really helped with the symptoms you describe in the last few months. Supplement with powder protein collagen and aim for 60g a day between food and the supplement. Michael Douglas the hairdresser had a very informative live in his IG with a hair loss specialist specialist a few months ago and she talked at length about aiming at that amount of protein for hair health. I find my joints and overall energy much better too.
I've not tried that. I do use whey protein when I am lifting, but I've been too tired and sore for that for weeks now. I don't eat a lot of meat, so probably my protein intake is around 40mg
ETA: I do take collagen peptides when I remember as well

Thank you! I've got prometrium too. I took it for a month, but noticed no change one way or the other, so I stopped. Never had a hot flush or any other classic meno symptoms, so I think my E dose is good for me and I don't really want to drop it lower because I want to protect my bones, brain, heart etc. Surgical menopause is lifelong unfortunately
Not everyone has hot flushes, although yes, they are considered to be one of the classic symptoms. It was the first one I had, yet I still had normal levels of oestrogen.

I had a premature menopause so am on HRT for at least another decade to protect my bones, brain, heart etc. Initially, I was given oestrogen when my body was still producing high levels of it which exacerbated all my issues. A specialist looked at my bloods properly and realised I had stopped producing progesterone and initially, that was all I needed and at the highest possible dose. As my body has now stopped producing oestrogen and testosterone, I am on those too. But as I said, I'm really sensitive to oestrogen, hence the lowest possible dose.

The other thing that impacted me was the pharmaceutical HRT patches. I now use bio-identical ones made from yams, ones which are compounded specifically for my needs, and suit my body far better.

If you are lifting and not eating enough protein, then you might be getting the double-whammy of putting your body under stress of breaking down muscle and not feeding enough. When women get older we actually need to up the protein due to the hormonal change. I was surprised how little I was eating when I totted up my daily average. Like you I do kettlebells regularly and was constantly tired and stiff. Lots of ways of adding protein that’s not meat- live yoghurt/ pulses/ eggs/ cheese/ nuts.

I do eat a lot of those foods. I need to start using cronometer again, so I know what my macros are. I am just so demotivated at the moment though

I feel like a giant slug. Why is there no slug emoji?

Eva Proudman is the Trichologist who joins Michael Douglas occasionally, and she is a wealth of knowledge. She has her own Instagram account too. I watched the live Q&A they did on chemotherapy as my mam was in treatment at the time, and she was absolutely brilliant. She’s well worth looking up.

Those are very similar to my numbers. And not good. Hair loss and other symptoms are a risk until your ferritin is much higher. If you’re in the US with insurance (assumption) can you get an infusion?
For hair growth your ferritin needs to be in it's 60s. I also have hair loss problems.

Living the slug life over here the past couple of weeks. Had a tiny cry today so hoping it's shifted something.

What does "styling it out" mean?
Styling it out means you're pretending something that went wrong is actually working for you.

A fellow slug 🥰 A good cry would be great, but I can't even summon that at the moment

I presume it means 'faking it til you make it'. Bullshit everyone, including yourself, that you are completely happy with your dreadful choice.
Seriously it was bonkers wasn't it? 70% of her hair was a lovely healthy brunette, so she opted to fry and dry the life out of all of it instead of looking for more creative solutions to deal with that other 30%.
And (as many MNers said tbf) she hasn't 'gone grey'. She hasn't embraced aging at all but has had her hair dyed grey/blonde/yellow.

It was a fairly common phrase in my youth. Where something happens and you 'style it out' as if you meant for it to happen. If you say the wrong thing or make a joke and it falls flat so you then add to it to try and make it work. Wish I could come up with some actual examples.

A fellow slug 🥰 A good cry would be great, but I can't even summon that at the moment
Mine caught me by surprise. Saw something on YouTube and it set me off. But maybe try a good 90s film.

OT Has anyone sees Miu Miu's collaboration with Levi's? They've "upcycled" regular old items with embroidery and marked them up by an eye-watering amount, eg a trucker jacket is $5800, pair of 501s $4300. There's some poverty-porn spiel about celebrating working-class America, and I find it all offensive af, especially now

I had a look at the Mumsnet thread. Actual LOL at the comment below in bold. Sali's thread is probably the tamest of all the influencer threads that I've seen. An extraordinary level of vitriol, please! As for the theory that everyone dislikes Sali because she's 'so pretty and has a nice life', is Sali the only public figure who is pretty and has a nice life? Why don't we dislike, say, Lisa Eldridge? LE has the most enviable career imaginable and seems to have a fabulous life. So infantilising to suggest that it's down to jealousy of Sali

"I'm not a fan of influencers and I don't follow any. Give me old fashioned, hard grafting salesmen and women any day. But SH seems to attract an extraordinary level of vitriol and I have no idea why."

Oh it’s written in mumsnet
“I’m not a fan of influencers and I don’t follow any” = I have no knowledge or interest in this, however my view the right one.
“Extraordinary level of vitriol” = criticism
“I have no idea why” = I have assessed the reasons given, and decided I don’t agree.

I think Sali would fit in well over there

Here is the piece if anyone wants to read it

I don’t see why she wasn’t a fan of the small amount of grey she had. The YouTuber Michelle Wang has black hair but some grey at the front and it looks really stylish.

It’s finished now but just went back to catch from the start - this is from the uncomfortable start where she’s rummaging about and not ready 😬

edit: it’s not picking it up well! But in video those darker patches have a much yellower tinge
Why is the square French manicure back? It reminds me of what glamour models wore in the late 90s/early 2000s.

I have a visceral dislike of people using the 'she's a wife and mother' as a reason to feel sympathy. We are more than our familial attachments. Our value as humans does not come from our roles as daughters, sisters, wives, or mothers. I am not a wife and mother. I may never be a wife and mother, but that doesn't change my value as a person.

Don’t want to de-rail the Sali chat, but did anyone get anything from Lisa’s new collection?

I went with the intention of buying a lipstick and a blusher and ended up with 2 x lipsticks, 2 x blushers and a lip gloss ………
I would have done in a heartbeat if she’d restocked the Skyscraper Rose, but I dithered over the others I liked and now they’re out of stock....

And on track, I don’t like Sali’s hair; she definitely could have taken the whole greying process in a slower, better, more interesting direction, i.e. the considered research and good writing levels of her breast reduction piece applied to the whole lockdown hair/growing grey movement, like all the gorgeous photos and links posted here, instead of a quick poorly executed, although COMPLEX 😜, freebie.

The speed of this transformation has obviously left her no chance to reconsider her makeup, and how dare anyone suggest it no longer suit!! You can see in that photo with the red-lip-singular how much better even that one pop-of-colour thing looks compared to the corpse-like weirdness displayed in the Live.

Agree. I'm Sali's age and have some white around my temples/ear area of my hairline - my clever hairdresser finds a way of blending it into my existing highlights without covering or hiding it so it looks really subtle and natural. Colourists deal with greying hair all the time and the good ones can do brilliant things. It's usually a gradual process. Alyson Walsh of That's Not My Age went grey about a year ago but she's a decade older than Sali and had a lot more grey to begin with. I could see Sali going dark again, the whole thing was premature and badly thought out.
