Ok, I just had a look. You had a lucky miss because there’s been a big controversy over the Klairs sunscreen not having the advertised spf50 protection and instead only having spf19 or thereabouts. It is a lovely sunscreen in terms of cosmetic elegance though.

The midnight blue calming cream is awesome and great for healing burns or after laser treatment, etc.

Wishtrend tend to ship to most places - it may be that COVID has had an impact. I could only get express shipping with my Gothamista box and then was slapped with £20 in customs charges. 😭
I thought it was the Purito sunscreen? Or has something come out about Klairs now too? I quite fancied that.

It was Purito that was tested, but then people began to notice that Klairs’ sunscreens are very similar and are produced by the same manufacturer. So they were pulled as well. Don’t know if they’re offering refunds!

I don’t care much for their response:

There’s a fantastic article that was shared on SHB back in the day called I, Racist by John Metta. I urge people to read it. In it, he says the following:
Thanks for the link. I read an article back in the summer that was a real eye opener for me - this one https://thecorrespondent.com/616/wh...people-who-experience-it/14375046840-d1cb2d39

I think for a lot of people - me included - our understanding of what racism is moved up to another level this year. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same for SH. I can't imagine that she would laugh at that tweet now the way she did five years ago. And, tbh, I don't think that in her writing she was ever as bad as some in taking 'white' to mean 'normal'. I think people were right to point out her omissions - such as the lack of people of colour in ITBW - but I'd attribute her dismissal of Asian beauty to her being a bit set in her ways. And the politics alone would have her preferring Jess Phillips to Diane Abbott.

Am I not seeing racism in her output because I'm viewing it through the lens of my own racism? Could be. I still don't feel though that calling her out for racism has featured strongly in the discussion here. When I wrote the 'Wiki' piece in August - which I still mean to update to reflect the BBC outing - I didn't include anything about racism and although people suggested things to add, no-one suggested adding anything about racism. Maybe it's become more of a topic here in recent months?

I don’t think it’s become more of a topic. It’s always featured in the discussions since her Freaky Friday video when everyone started pulling out receipts. It may not be on the radar for everyone because, frankly, racism isn’t a priority for everyone (though it certainly should be).

I genuinely think you’re being too charitable to Sali. Her disregard for Asian beauty isn’t a result of her being set in her ways - she has no problem doing ads for AHC. As for Diane Abbott, she has received more abuse than any female politician. Everyone knows this. Why wasn’t she included, or even referenced? And if it genuinely is about a difference in politics, why is it that all the victims of trolling in her documentary were white? Is Diane the only non-white person to ever be subjected to trolling? No. She didn’t even include any Jewish politicians who’ve been subjected to trolling. That is deliberate. Luciana Berger has been subjected to horrific abuse which has resulted in her perpetrators being sentenced to prison.

And let us not ever forget her defence of Caitlin Moran who definitely does have dodgy politics on the issue of race. Nor should we forget Sali’s racial fetishisation of Jewish people. Philosemitism is every bit as harmful as anti-semitism.

Sali is a racist. Plain and simple.

No column today? I was looking forward to another warmed-over guide to buying last-minute perfume gifts (“posh”, “spendy”, “regardless of skin tone”).

You'd think by now she'd be aware of how much she overuses it, and has done for the better part of a decade. That and "satisfying" or "pleasing". Her writing is best read as parody at this point

It's like war propaganda
Lads, lippy, a satisfying click (pleasing), glowy and cheering.

All with a satisfying click to boot

Ah sorry @Blahblahbuzzy you beat me to it

I have to say, Lisa Eldridge’s lipsticks have THE MOST satisfying click I have ever experienced. Speaking of which, haven’t seen @Satisfying Click around for a while.

Now that my skin has almost recovered from overdoing the actives, I’m wondering about what else I can do to my face. (Have reintroduced vit c but laying off the retinol completely till next year when I’ll go a bit more steadily than applying every single night, whoops!).

I’d love your thoughts on micro-needling/dermal rollers?

Also, someone I follow on social media was talking about the nuface and I continue to be hugely tempted. It was all of you lovely lot that started than off, but she reminded me. I had told myself I didn’t care about my face that much but frankly I was lying to myself. She is a little older than I am, has not had anything done (and I include weak dilutes in that) and her skin looks amazing. Perhaps I’ll see if Santa brings me any cash...

In terms of Sali’s racism: her participation in misogynoir at Dianne Abbot’s expense; her exclusion of any kind of commentary on the abuse Dianne Abbot and other people of colour have faced in her Troll documentary - choosing instead to focus on only white victims; her repeated exclusion of people of colour from her ITBS (this has been covered in a four part blog post by Arly of @DetailOrientatedBeauty); her dismissive attitude to Asian Beauty preferring instead to focus on Western Beauty norms; her failure to interview Gothamista when she was in the U.K. despite high profile people like Sam Bunting and Nadine filming with her; her double standards regarding Rihanna and Madonna; her friendship with apologists for racism like Caitlin Moran; calling Ateh’s Beauty Box “bougie” (a black term for aspirational. Has she ever said of a white beauty box that they’re being aspirational?!) ... and that’s just off the top of my head.

All of the above has been discussed on Tattle. All of the above IS racism.

There’s a fantastic article that was shared on SHB back in the day called I, Racist by John Metta. I urge people to read it. In it, he says the following:

“Racism is not slavery. As President Obama said, it’s not avoiding the use of the word ******. Racism is not white water fountains and the back of the bus. Martin Luther King did not end racism. Racism is a cop severing the spine of an innocent man. It is a 12 year old child being shot for playing with a toy gun in a state where it is legal to openly carry firearms.

But racism is even more subtle than that. It’s more nuanced. Racism is the fact that “White” means “normal” and that anything else is different. Racism is our acceptance of an all white Lord of the Rings cast because of historical accuracy, ignoring the fact that this is a world with an entirely fictionalized history.

Even when we make tit up, we want it to be white.

And racism is the fact that we all accept that it is white. Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan in Star Trek. Khan, who is from India. Is there anyone Whiter than Benedict bleeping Cumberbatch? What? They needed a “less racial” cast because they already had the Black Uhuracharacter?

That is racism. Once you let yourself see it, it’s there all the time.”

The article’s here:

Thanks. I agree with all you’ve said and you said it so well.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve. If it's anti aging, what specifically? Some people like the nuface but I found it a chore to do every day in top of the rest of my routine. I'm considering some sort of filler but bit scared and not sure who to go to for a consultation.
