I'm watching an old vlog of hers where they go skiing and Joe is carrying BOTH sets of skis, so his and niomis. Skis are heavy and awkward to carry, let alone two pairs! She is such a little snowflake

Poor Niomi, it has been such a tiring day unpacking vegan ready meals and having lunch with a hot PT 🙄
She leads such a busy life. Us mere mortals who just have jobs and look after family cannot simply know how tiring it is to attend a 7am yoga class and drink a matcha latte in one day.

Its probably just that she doesn’t eat enough tbh. Also, while pilates is great for toning, she doesn’t do it that much. Yoga varies. I’ve always thought she must do very gentle yoga tbh. I noticed recently when she does downward dog for example, she can’t get her feet flat on the floor. I’m not very flexible at all, but after a few weeks of yoga, I can almost get my feet flat. It seems a bit weird to me that she can’t get her feet flat with how often she does yoga tbh, which has made me think its a really gentle type and probably doesn’t help muscles much. I saw a while back someone said on her photo that she wasn’t holding each pose very long so that might be why?
That's probably it. Progressive overload is necessary for any type of exercise if you want to see any improvement both performance and physique wise. For yoga this would be going in deeper, variying flows and staying in pose for longer. She is obviously under-eating, not much body weight exercise going on. That's why she is still soft around the edges with little to no definition. There is nothing wrong with that btw, except for possible eating disorders and controlling what your partner eats.

Yeah we had this whole debate not so long ago on here, some people got really angry at calling her skinny fat/saying she lacks definition etc. I was very much of the opinion that her body fat is so low she could look unreal if she started lifting. However someone made the very good point that not everyone wants to do weights or cares about being toned, perhaps she is just happy to be slim etc, and I think that does make sense for her. Like, she’s around enough frequent exercisers and PTs etc that she must know she would tone up if she did weights, so the natural conclusion is that she isn’t bothered, and that’s fair enough really.

I'm not coming for you personally, and I really don't want it to seem that way, but I think that's a really interesting perspective. Maybe the difference is that I've grown up more in the age where this was normal, as I'm only early 20s, so I have a different view but I feel like saying society as a whole has gone to tit because of social media is the same type of thing people used to say about the internet when it first started or legitimately any technological innovation. I think social media, like any other new thing, has its pros and cons, which as we grow, need to be regulated so that we can ensure it doesn't turn into a cesspool. Influencer culture in general is fairly toxic, but I feel like saying social media as a whole is awful is really unfair! I think social media offers so many perspectives and so much information - it's an amazing way to connect with people and understand the world when it is used properly. I also think it is unfair to judge young girls obsessed with their feeds as being vacuous - as someone who went through that phase, it exists for a little in college and high school, and then you grow out of it, for the most part.

I think what I'm saying is that as you grow up with it, you go through different phases with it, but most people tend to grow out of it. Influencer culture is absolutely toxic, but social media as a whole can have some amazing positive sides to it - it's such a great way to raise awareness for causes, I feel like I learn so much about what is going on in the world through social media and I would never know what I know or have access to the information or skills I do without it.

I know we're on the Niomi thread and we are talking about influencer culture, which again is awful and gross, especially when it's people Niomi's age that seem to be regressing in maturity and intelligence as they spend more time on social media, but it always rubs me the wrong way when social media as a WHOLE is touted as toxic, when maybe it's more pockets of it that are toxic. I don't know where I'm going with this... I think as a Gen Z, it just hits really hard to constantly be told that we spend too much time on social media and not in the real world, when in a lot of ways, social media is how we learn about the world and develop our opinions on major issues.

God I'm sorry; it's really hard for me to say what I want to the point :? I think I just have massive issues with absolute statements just because it's really hard for me to see things as black and white.

According to his LinkedIn, he went to Exeter. I'm not from the UK, but that's considered a really good school, right?
I am in 2 minds about this, I would say the internet generally, yes, undoubtedltly has had a positive effect (despite the downsides). I grew up wihtout it and the access to information etc now is amazing. Social media instead..... it just encourages a superficial look at things IMO, having a really limited word limit on twitter, for example, doesn't encourage meaningful debate but just adversarial views.... and I see a lot of this in other scoial media forums... there is little room for dialogue or nuance anymore in social media which is not at all helpful and is reflected in the politics of many countries atm

I have a feeling she is the type of person that thinks lifting takes away your femininity, makes you more masculine and a bit threatening for potential suitors. I also saw that skii carrying post and it kinda confirms that. Think American dream 50s housewife stereotype. Don't quote me on that tho🤪

I found lifting weights and especially compound exercises such as deadlifting and squatting helped me with cardio because it builds muscle and with stronger legs I felt better running etc. It's not always for an aesthetic thing but also for performance reasons. I think the fittest I have ever been was when I was circuit training, running, skipping and doing compound weight training as they seemed to complement each other in one way or another.

Although Niomi is clearly a good runner so perhaps for her she is working towards a certain goal with her running and yoga, rather than wanting to be strong or look a certain way.

Yeah I totally get that vibe from her too tbh. Like @HelloStereo says there are so many health and performance benefits from doing weights but I imagine she’s one of those people who thinks it’ll make her bulky or she doesn’t want to eat more to help her muscles grow or whatever.

I’m 35, so I experienced what life was like before social media. Life was so much simpler. People didn’t have anxiety and depression to the extent they do these days. And it’s all been linked to the introduction of the smart phone in 2012. Suicide rates have increased since that year. Even I’ve got horrible anxiety and depression. I compare my body to other women on Instagram and I’m a 35 year old woman! I can’t imagine how it much affect young minds.

I feel really sorry for young people growing up with social media. I have no idea how I would’ve handled it during high school.

I work as an interface designer and developer, so I literally manipulate you guys for a living. (Not proud of it). I use psychology to keep you addicted to your phone. And don’t get me started on how damaging porn is for young people. It reduces the grey matter in your brain. So yeah, if we could all go back to 2012, that would be great.

I remember by first mobile phone had flashing lights on the side of it and I felt soooo cool. I’m so glad that was the extent of what I could do on a phone at age 11!

the thing is, youngens like you don't know what it even felt like to exist without it so you have no perspective. and for those of us in specifically our 30s, we have the unique perspective of having our shaping adolescent years with both no internet/internet, and no social media/with social media. & everyone above that had most of their lives without it. I am SO bleeping HAPPY that social media was not really a thing when I was in college. once instagram became a thing, suddenly socializing started getting a little different where there was more focus on where we went/what photos we could get and since then it's gotten SO MUCH WORSE. unfortunately, you will never even know a life without it, so it's hard for you to value the absence of it. but high school & college used to be just about having fun & doing what made you happy and living in the moment (something I dont think a lot of young people even know how to do at all), not trying to find the best thing to do to post to prove to people your life is fun or prove you're pretty or prove you're successful or whatever else. everyone is always trying to PROVE something now. there has also never been more young people depressed than there is nowadays, and it's because everyone is comparing their lives to everyone else's, whether it be aesthetically or career/financially or whatever - always comparing. not to mention how much younger gens value followers. all we had to worry about was having someone to sit with at lunch, now kids have a digital imprint of their popularity via followers? that sounds awful. I could go on, but social media has done way more harm than good. hence why everyone older who knows how it was without it always say this. people can still learn & become aware of issues on the regular internet. social media has just made it easier to manipulate people on what issues matter vs people having to research themselves & discovering other & more important issues. social media has made humanity strive for a collective "ideal" instead of their own personal ideal, and that leads to so much unhappiness since it's only our own personal ideal that matters. ugh god I could write a dissertation on how bad social media is.. TRUST THE OLDS WE KNOW THE DEAL. and just try to stay the duck off of it more than less, lol
This really speaks to my soul! I’m 35 and I miss the days before social media/smart phones more than I can say. I’m so grateful I grew up that way and also depressed that it will never be that way again. Social media is so toxic for all the reasons you mentioned. I’ve caught myself so many times thinking more about an instagram post I will make on some day out, than actually enjoying the moment. It sickens me. Niomi is a great example of how empty it all is. She’s trying desperately to prove she has this pahfect life and in reality she is broken. I feel sorry for her that she has the pressure to have to portray this fake image. It’s all so tiring and just bull tit. 😞

I think Louis Cole's girlfriend (Raya? I think) summed it up really nicely in that vid with Zoe and Alfie where she said she has so many memories where her and Louis would have traveled to this amazing place and she'd think wow this is so romantic and look around and Louis would be there talking to his camera and completely ruin the moment. Even scarier that her mentioning that in the video was clearly the first time it had even crossed his mind

I don't think I can respond to specific posts yet because my account is fairly new, but I just wanted to offer another quick opinion on social media. Obviously I understand where people are coming from, but I do believe it's very much about how you use it. This year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and instagram was by far the easiest way for me to reach out and find a whole community of young people dealing with the same thing. Instagram has provided me with a support system I couldn't have done without this year for sure. Also as someone having to get the train to and from chemo during rush hour at the moment, I find it so frustrating to see influencers getting the tube at the busiest time of day for things other than work or meetings (basically leisure activities) and adding to the crowds 😔
