To be fair, this advice is weird as duck. Never seen anyone in Galicia remove the stalks before frying them, and I spent years living a few km from PadrĆ³n itself.

This does look like JM's most edible moment...but I am so confused by the whole Greek thing. Did she grow up in a household full of Greek hospitality where everyone was always feeding guests, or did her parents fail to teach her to cook so she had to learn years later by examining the labels on Lloyd Grossman bottles?

Credit where itā€™s due, this is the first thing Iā€™ve seen her make that is actually edible. Has she not got a Nutribullet to pulverise her dishes with anymore?

She is super cringey though šŸ˜‚ Praying for our Partridge-esque documentary to be relocated to Greece as she ~rediscovers her roots, sheā€™s not just a rich girl from Southend after all - thereā€™s so much more :ā€™)

Genuine question because I donā€™t know, Iā€™d suspect a last minute spontaneous holiday on that sleeper train is quite the expense and (shamefully for this country tbh) not accessible for someone actually on the living wage? Am I being unfair?

Went to a northern uni and I remember booking my tickets home (London) at the start of my 10 week term and still struggling cos even 2 months ahead the best prices were Ā£50 minimum, and I was earning above minimum wage with loans & grants.
I think she's talking about a very err, middle class living wage.

She dug up someones random old tweet from 2016 by the way just so she could faux-answer this question and do this rant about how she is POOR.

Jack does not earn a living wage, she states she pays herself a living wage. So anything earned above that is still there if needed. BIG difference!

Jack is not being perceived as wealthy because she wrote some books:rolleyes: People who have been 'tit poor' and only now earning a living wage generally (from my experience of surrounding friends and family) don't possess Tracey Emin art, Vivienne Westwood and Burberry clothing, Groucho Club membership, various Dyson appliances, multiple phones and airpods, Smeg appliances, a water rower, more sideboards than a Cotswold Company showroom, etc. Nor can they pay out over Ā£1,000 on a poorly pet at the drop of a hat.
Most people on a living wage would not be able to afford any of the above, let alone being able to pay the rent on a 3 bed detached bungalow by themselves.
I haven't looked but I'm guessing her trainers are 'fancy' as well?

Oh yes, just noticed that! How random...it's almost as if she was...searching it out?!

She just can't resist a Big Late Night Twitter Grumping.

Her dad's not even Greek-born, is he? It's her grandparents? So she's 3rd gen 'Greek'? This is like me specialising in Polish recipes because my Grandpa was Polish and made a mean borscht.
I didnā€™t want to say this cos I was scared of starting a ruckus over identity politics but omg YES, this šŸ˜‚Identity is a wild rollercoaster but like most my 2nd gen friends whoā€™d spend school summer holidays in their respective ~motherlands it was a weirdly disillusioning experience where you are aware youā€™re other than. I certainly would never have felt the confidence to say this is home, because itā€™s not...

Canā€™t articulate it but thereā€™s definitely something uncomfortable about suddenly embracing a previously disregarded/unacknowledged identity and dramatically calling it home at 2am on Twitter. Feels a bit like a geographical (when people go abroad thinking itā€™ll fix their problems but turns out theyā€™re the problem?) at best or just savvy on the pulse bandwagoning...

QUICK, hide the Vivs and shove that bleeping Emin behind one of the Cotswold Co Sideboards

Her trainers are grotty but the DKL ones are that Nike bubble sole they start from Ā£120. Which again I find bizarre as she really canā€™t dress but spends a lot on some really bad items.

Edit: sorry Iā€™m wrong, they start from Ā£180 theyā€™re the vapormax.

Thatā€™s 18 hours of gross living wage pay?

Tbf cheap compared to a Vivienne Westwood (rip šŸ˜‚) dress ?

Not sticking up for her by any means, but I seem to remember the Groucho club membership being part of an award.

This is seriously about her 6th book pitch in the past couple of months. She even says she's got 2 contracted to do already. Why is she pissing about with new ~ideas~ instead of getting on with writing them?
She's flailing around trying to make content, hoping some things will stick and she'll stay relevant. When the food conversation dries up she rallies the troops by tweeting out for suggestions about one of her ailments or makes a cOnTrOvErSiAl statement.
I agree with those who have said the Greek munch looks edible but the Co Op sells all that exact stuff in little pots for lunch. I'm not saying that's where she got it, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised

I think this is all part of being single again. Her personality seems to change around different people so now she has to move on again and is embracing being Greek? But regardless I am sure none of these books has been commissioned. Especially not that political/blm one she is claiming

Yes and I think, fittingly, she was nominated for the Groucho <insert Tom Cruise putting on sunglasses gif> Award.

Oh Jesus, sheā€™s started again and Iā€™m working today! Looks like Iā€™ll be Grunkaing at lunch time.

FFS how can she have the audacity to even write that crap list out, and still say sheā€™s living on the living wage. Itā€™s an outright lie and in very bad taste. Anyone can spend their money as they see fit but stop lying about your circumstances and stop trying to identify as something youā€™re not mikro Jackie

This is going to sound so mean girls but where that dress was so ghastly & cheap looking I strongly suspect it was probably from her diffusion line Anglomania, so would have ā€œonlyā€ been Ā£2/300 at full RRP. Also last season diffusion lines, especially for dresses that ugly, often end up heavily discounted too so she may have got a total bargain with it. Still not something Iā€™d expect is affordable for many on the living wage but not as ~fancy as sheā€™d hoped for with the name drop šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Sheā€™s still pretending to earn just a living wage when she scampered off to Edinburgh on the Sleeper, stayed in a beautiful flat , spent money on chain restaurants food , bought ingredients for slop and donated an expensive Nutri bullet .

Yup, of course sheā€™s existing just above the poverty line and is able to imagine planning on a Greek exodus to inflict herself upon the inventors of the wheel.

God help them!

Ah is that The Maverick award? I read that as she was a nominee and not a winner. The winner gets Ā£10,000 as well as lifetime membership. Happy to stand corrected if I've got it wrong though, it's early:giggle:

That mumsnet thread is beautifully brutal.

re her kid. I donā€™t think itā€™s a case (here), that sheā€™s damned if she does and damned if she doesnā€™t. Iā€™ve felt it is pretty much unanimous, on here, that nobody blames her for not showing her kid. My own opinion is that sheā€™s very much doing the right thing in that regard.

The big but is that she uses ā€œmisty eyed rhetoricā€, with him front and centre, when it suits her. I would personally prefer if she didnā€™t mention him in that way at all. Being a poor and struggling SINGLE MOTHER is her entire USP, so itā€™s always about him even when heā€™s not mentioned. What I really really reallyyyyy donā€™t like, is how much she moans about having nothing good in her life, everything is tit, sheā€™s got no reason to get up in the morning, sheā€™s howling in the bath, on Twitter 18 hours a day. She neglects to mention her son in the context of having a purpose in life or having a direction or happiness or whatever. Itā€™s that sort of thing that pisses me off in regards to her son, itā€™s not the fact that she barely mentions him.
She only seems to mention him in regards to herself. If he has acieved something it is of course down to her fabulous parenting. Or if she is preaching about parenting she will bring him up in the context of "I have a son i.e. I know everything there is to know about bringing up a child" Like her adopted brother is only mentioned when she is the expert on race issues. People are just props in the never ending tit show of her life.

Morning fraus! The PhD has been submitted! Really hoping R Jackie gets on one today - nothing could be better right now than spending the day on the sofa getting righteously furious about someone I've never met

Speculation m'lud, but I'm not convinced Jack made all that greek food. Some of it looks verrrrrry suspiciously like the stuff you get in little plastic boxes at the supermarket - the falafels, the stuffed peppers, the vine leaves. It looks far too edible for Jack and she doesn't explicitly say she *cooked* it, did she?? šŸ§šŸ§šŸ§

Morning all, I will heed your advice and stay in the present threads and avoid the heartache (itā€™s still very raw at the moment šŸ˜¢)

After all Iā€™m sure there will be much hooting to be had as Jack canā€™t go very long without ā€˜doing a chaosā€™! :p
