This makes me think about the two photos tweeted several months apart of the wall of pasta and oats and cereal jars in Jack's kitchen all at the same level eg untouched - possibly in favour of the Ocado deliveries. So more of a long-term decorative investment than for immediate consumption.

Reminder that trolley.co.uk is actually at this moment providing real time price data and comparison on supermarket goods. It also has a price history for each item and allows you to set an alert for when the price of certain items drops. But they can never compete against a scribbly bit of paper with some cat hair on it.

What’s really sad is that Trolley needs funding to stay open. They had a crowd funder to help with costs but only hit 41% of their costs. And yet squigs are pissing their pants with excitement with the prospect of funding a fowever home for Jack because she deserves it so much.

I’m baffled by what her VBI is meant to achieve too.
Attention for Jack.

There's actually a bit in one book about how Vimes won't lie, even a small lie, because if you tell a small lie, you'll tell a big lie. Which is ironic.

Alas, I'm not a forensic Frau or I would have reread every book with him in to find it. But I don't love you all enough. I'm sorry dear hearts x

If the VBI was to be truly useful then it wouldn't look at prices but at shelf life and prep time. Healthy cooking of the type out-of-touch politicans often urge, ya know lentil curries and stuff like that, are definitely cheaper than ready meals gram for gram BUT require a large initial outlay to be palatable e.g. if you're going to make pulses your familiy's your main source of protein you need to buy spices, flavourings, herbs and other things to make them palatable especially to children, plus you may also need specialist kitchen equipment (I can't get over how many cheap recipes call for a food processor when I didn't have one when I was cash strapped and neither do most poor people. I didn't even have that much crockery and kitchen tools such as knives etc). If all you have to spend on your food shop is your benefits money you can't afford to make that initial outlay even though the spices and pulses would last longer and work out cheaper in the long run. But you can't make the initial investment so you have to buy ready prepared and processed food because it's cheap and you know your kids will eat it.

So a proper VBI would measure affordability of non-processed foods that are often held up as the 'answer' (pulses etc) and how long they would last compared with the initial outlay and cross reference that against what can actually be afforded on benefits. Palatability to kids, and the fact that poorer people are also time poor, would have to be taken into account. To paraphrase Jack, you can't spend hours bunging stuff in a curry when you work shifts.

There we go Jack, you're welcome.

Haaallpppp. Do I dare watch it? Jack honestly singing When I Needed a Neighbour? That's so cringe and top level delusional?

Messiah Complex Jack is the most terrifying Jack.
I cringed myself inside out and am now typing with my kidneys.

Yes! This is what has baffled me from the start - the Vimes thing should suggest that you'd have to eat more often if you're eating rubbish food. Is that what she's trying to get evidence for? I thought it was that cheap food has increased in price faster than more expensive food? I think what will happen is that something will get published by people who know what they're doing and JM will say she was never actually writing it but was doing stuff ~ quietly behind the scenes ~ and it was a huge success and everybody clapped and then we'll never mention it again. I'm exhausted not being JM. I can't imagine how she feels! X

its like having Jimmy Swaggart in the room
One day, I will not get Jimmy Swaggart (Evangelist/crook) and Jack Swiggert (Apollo 13 astronaut) mixed up in my head and temporarily be very disappointed with Kevin Bacon.

But today is not that day.

One of the responses to this thread makes excuses for Jack by saying “it’s classic ADHD behaviour”. Hold me back, Frauen, because my Twitter is under my real name and I’ll definitely get fired if I say what I want to to the stupid cow who said it.

Like many other ND posters to this thread, every day I have to work to try and unlearn/overcome some of the crippling beliefs I have about myself after so long undiagnosed. Convince myself I’m not lazy or useless or worse than everyone else. To see Jack’s bone idleness and entitlement ascribed to ADHD makes me rage.

I also think this might be really painful for Nigella ~ hear me out ~ bearing in mind previous experience x

I’ve had to sit out various threads since I became a Frau because it all got a bit too much and was too exasperating, and I’m softly gently chuckling to myself that I thought at the start of the week this would be the case again after ‘I wrote a thing’. What a time to be alive!!

Oh Jack. Asleep all day. Oh no I'm embarrassed for her. Again
I predicted 'meetings all day'. But asleep all day is as pitiful.
I do think she thinks that adds to her ‘lil’ old vulnerable me’ image. Having to rest because she is EXHAUSTED.

Why did she write all her job applications out on her phone when everything else she does is painstakingly written by hand?

It’s amazing how the shit has really hit the fan and the list/proof of all the good she’s done and the people she has helped are being shown over and over again to show it’s all bs! Oh…..

and 10 years later, it’s still going on. Still asking strangers rather than her support network (if it was true that is).

Sort of OT but yesterday I read a blog post by one of a lovely couple who have a food business. Every year they post a blog detailing their finances for the previous year. They have a smallholding and run supper clubs, etc. They work incredibly hard for very little in return in terms of salary, but are doing so much good and creating gorgeous looking food and recipes and events. They have beautiful and helpful insta and Facebook pages.

They used to follow and like JM's insta but no longer do (as of a couple of years ago I believe, I could see their name as a "like" when I scrolled through her old insta posts but they no longer follow her and haven't liked posts in a long time).

I just found it an interesting contrast that there are people out there grafting in order to do what they love and earn a small income, and willing to be totally transparent about what that entails financially so as not to mislead people with an instagram version of life, and then you have JM grasping and begging for money with zero transparency and no output apart from horrific looking cookies/slop and thousands of angry rants and pile-ons on twitter.

Really makes u think.
