Why don't they #ad #gift #aff I don't understand why they don't it takes a second. The fines the ASA must hand out are ridiculous

Suzi Grant @alternativeageing

She has included YouTube's banner declaring Paid Promotion but the 'blog' is an entire 12 minute ad for £900k retirement flats in Clapham, London.

Before I clicked to watch I believed she was giving an update on her personal circumstances so pressed play, only then did the banner appear on screen. It is for that reason the ASA requires that the word AD is included in the TITLE , so viewers know before choosing to engage that it's advertising.

Very sneaky as the vlogger registers the viewer count.

Latest about shady YouTube / IG fashion and beauty influencer Jo Good aka @middleagedminx.

Jo Good has a local radio show in London on the BBC. We all know the state broadcaster is prevented - by charter - to advertise or do commercial promotions, and presenters must abide by this.

This has never stopped Jo Good, she has long been using her BBC London radio show to shamelessly namecheck the many brands she has commercial arrangements with, whether via advertising, promos, hospitality, fees for hosting, partnerships, gifts, affilate commissions etc.

She also uses the BBC to constantly give out her social handle, she tells listeners they can go to YT or IG to see her dog, or her Mum but she really wants to lure eyeballs for views and clicks for her ads.

From October Jo Good will be going national on the BBC with a radio show on Friday and Saturday nights, to be broadcast all over England to all the local radio stations.

Some examples of Jo Good mentioning brands she is associated with, on the BBC:

  • The other night Jo Good said she was full after eating a pasta meal, saying it was from Hello Fresh - who she does promos for on YouTube with aff code.
  • Clare Connoly, a friend of Jo Good who does recorded meditations on the show, is given approximately 10 minutes extra air time every week, much of which they use to discuss the private yoga retreats she runs in Majorca and France. This is always includes comments that there are vacancies and bookings are open, with all contact details given. I've never heard them say, as should be done on the BBC, that "other yoga retreats are available".
  • Jo Good is paid by the online fashion magazine Sheerluxe to host onine presentations and interviews. In turn Jo Good has them on her BBC show under the guise of a fashion phone in segment.
  • She is an ambassador for Paula's Choice who she often mentions. .
  • Jo Good has done paid partnerships with Marylebone Village Limited, which is part of the vast Howard de Walden property estate that owns swathes of central London. Jo Good contantly mentions, by name, the various boutiques, pubs and restaurants in the area. She has a seperate arrangement with one of the boutiques, Rixo, who gift her dresses and who she mentions often on the BBC.
These are just a very few examples of the contant piss-taking by Jo Good at the expense of the BBC license payer. It will be interesting to see if she will use her new national platform on the BBC to continue the commercial plugging and spruiking for her own gain.

Other presenters have been pulled up for less, how has she been getting away with this for so long?

On Insta Jo Good has linked to her YouTube vlog in which she is advertising dog food, neither IG post or YT marked with #AD.

Time for Jo Good's weekly undeclared ad. She thinks if she says something is gifted she doesn't need to declare it as an ad.

Dear Jo Good, Showing and naming a product and giving a link (from which you'll benefit from click-through purchase commissions) =AD. Why are you not labelling compliantly?

Another way to get around the cookie thing is buying in an incognito (private) tab.

These pics are absolutely shocking tbh, I don't understand why they do it. Callie's is one of the worst, I think with her it's because she wants people to think she's genuinely living this £££ lifestyle and it's not propped up by brands, I don't know why Hinch does it because we're talking about £2.50 cleaning detergent here?!

A couple of further examples of BBC Radio presenter Jo Good using her platform on the BBC to promote her personal, monetised socials, and brands who she works for outside the Beeb.

On her radio late show on 20th September Jo Good read an email (supposedly) from a listener who commented about seeing her doing a handstand. She went on to explain that they saw this on her socials. Result being that any listeners who went to see the handstand on her Insta would see it was part of a paid promotion, this time an #AD for Lululemon yoga leggings.

On her afternoon radio show on 24th September Jo Good interviewed a woman about being a stylist. It was then revealed that the guest is not a general freelance stylist but is employed in-house by Hobbs. Yes, the very same Hobbs that Jo Good is paid to promote. She did not declare her affiliation with Hobbs to the BBC's listeners.

There is much in the press about the Strictly performers being monitored by the BBC as to their commercial activities on socials so I don't know why this woman has been getting away with it for so long.

Jo Good will be broadcasting across England at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays from 13th October. Perhaps BBC scrutiny is more thorough with national output.

I follow a micro influencer with about 25k followers on insta. She never posts anything as ad or gifted to the point I actually thought she didn’t make any money from insta and was just very into fashion etc she’s very honest on q&a’s and did a YouTube on all things about influencing so it’s clear it’s her job and she’s confirmed she gets an income from it! She mentioned in the video that she doesn’t actually need to disclose ads or press trips - has there been a change? I’ve been wondering for ages why she wouldn’t need to mark stuff as ads. I think she’s also a model so would it just be classed as work as their actually getting paid to do a job rather than advertising? But then she def makes money through posting the ads! Very confusing

She’s a fright isn’t she. I can’t understand how she’s got any sort of following on social media let alone her own radio show - beggars belief 😳

Jo Good Middle Aged Minx is shilling for LilySilk again. Hides away AD disclosure in YT description box, ASA says it should be in the video title so it can be seen by viewers before engagement.

Nor does the video show on the screen - as required by YouTube - that it contains Paid Promotion. She didn't tick the YES/NO declaration when uploading.

This brand will give a link to almost anyone with 10k plus subs. This is the online equivalent of being asked to hand out flyers at a tube station at rush hour.

This is a bargain basement "partnership". She says they "reach out" to her all year, and that they are "easy to work with" - like she is consulting on brand strategy with the CMO :ROFLMAO:

Fact is, all she did is sign up to their affiliate programme months ago and, like thousands of other YTers, she gets regular automatic emails from them with an invite for a freebie and a code.

Her presentation is slapdash and insulting. She wears their robe with a safety pin in the wrap bodice. Then takes a blouse out of the box, notes that it should be steamed but fails to do so when "modelling" it while jumping on her landlord's sofa.

She is often told about this in YT comments but still does it.

Again on her YouTube vlog posted yesterday Jo Good @middleagedminx is advertising a makeup brand, and one of those mats/ bolsters with little spikes on.

She says boldly that they are not ads. She uses the old trick of saying that she bought one item from the makeup brand, implying this means it's not an ad. But IT IS AN AD because she is advertising a discount code.

View attachment 793775

She says the mat/bolster is not a paid ad. Many influencers use semantics in this way, she might not have been paid a fee for the ad, but she gives out a code from which she will presumably receive a commission.

Her delivery here is a study in insincerity. Breathy "trust me" tone. Says she doesn't know if similar products exist, despite having being sent a different green and blue version a while back from a different brand, She also implies that the mat and bolster has properties comparable to acupuncture treatment from Harley Street (which she credits for easing her asthma 5 minutes after it was diagnosed). She also credits it with boosting her energy and sleep issues now that her radio show has been unceremoniously shunted to a late slot.

That bag of nails mat looks completely new and unused! She hasn’t been anywhere near it!

NI Insta huns are the absolute worst for this! Maybe it's because we don't buy into the whole influencer lifestyle and anybody doing it gets the piss taken out of them, but why so secretive and sneaky? Just own it and admit you get freebies and are paid to promote something you would never pay for with your own money!

Again Jo Good aka Middle Aged Minx. Her vlog today features her advertising two brands she has commercial arrangements with, but no honest mention of AD or gifted. She says it's not sponsored and expects viewers to believe it, most of her subs are gullible old gals so perhaps they do believe her and Jo Good is happy to exploit this. Not very AUTHENTIC or TRANSPARENT, qualities she likes to boast about

The above post showing Jo Good saying 'this is NOT a promotion' for the Keys beauty stuff was early in vlog.

Later in the vlog she admits to "professional unboxing". She gives it the full QVC presentation with item displays and descriptions, referring to the link and mentioning its availability in Harrods. She then pitches it AGAIN at the end of vlog.

This was no accident, it is her usual sneaky MO, it went like this...

The tease....she first fakes that she's so chuffed to show a nice gift she just got in the post. She expressly denies it's a promotion (see screenshot in earlier post) and claims that she doesn't even know where you can buy the products then .........BOSH hit'em later in the vlog with the full sales pitch shill, links etc.

Hey Jo Good! If it's not an AD or promotion why do you do it? Is it actually just a hobby or public service to your followers?

If it is an AD... do the decent professional thing and be transparent with your "community" who you claim to value, and put AD in the YouTube title and the banner saying CONTAINS PAID PROMOTION.

The way Jo Good runs her socials is NON-TRANSPARENT, SLEAZY AND DISRESPECTFUL. I am shocked that no one goes into her YT comments to say this, her viewers really must be dim. She also uses her BBC radio show, giving shout-outs to her own social handle in an effort to attract more eyeballs to her online ads. And why TF did she make a token mention about "dark skin"???

Jo Good @middleagedminx has continued to run ads on her Insta and her YouTube vlogs without doing so ASA compliantly.

Her vlog this Sunday has a clickbait title, if viewers clicked on the thumbnail (see below) there is no warning that there is a 16-minute ad at the start where she is promoting a website that sells designer clothes, giving aff links.

20220814_114352.jpg

She also does not put the YouTube banner declaring it CONTAINS PAID PROMOTION.

Her 5th August Insta posts is a full video ad for a luxury retirement village which she was presumably paid a professional fee to host. No where is there any indication it is an advertisement.
