Exactly, and she would have been 17 too, so she had no ties to him. They weren’t at the stage of being married with kids at this point so I don’t have a huge amount of sympathy for her, she could have walked away after his first misdemeanour and had a normal life with a happy marriage but she chose the money.

It's utterly grim. 16 ffs, he'd have still been at school. If any adult in his life knew he was doing that then they've completely let him down
Maybe they do need to money, if he’s still using prostitutes/escorts I imagine they will be charging him a fortune. If he does have an addictive personality I suspect it wouldn’t just be sex, I could also see him gambling a lot of money away.
He's probably spent a fortune on hush money over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got a few kids tucked away. I know it's trite to call footballers thick, but considering how many times Rooney has been caught out, I reckon there's a few accidents and mistakes that he'll be footing the bill for somewhere.

I'm not trying to excuse his behaviour at all, but reading that article made me so sad. is his current behaviour and the way it really hurts people in his life something he needs to take responsibility and get help for? yes, 100%.
but being essentially a child at 16 and regularly visiting sex workers? imo the adults in his life had a responsibility to step in and stop it/get him help if it was a symptom of something much larger, perhaps like struggling to deal with fame and large amounts of money at such a young age like clearly many footballers do
Obviously cheating is tit, but imagine if you grew up in that scenario. From the time he was about 13 he was billed as a superstar in waiting. At 16 he was a household name. His background looks like he didn't get great advice either.
Plus, teenagers in general are often emotionally immature idiots. Adding millions of pounds and fame to the situation doesn't help. There's a reason why so many child stars end up messed up.
Before anyone replies, I am not excusing bad behaviour. I just think teenagers getting that fame and money are likely to do stupid stuff.
