Sure you know yourself. It’s in my regular Chinese takeaway order. Mr Aquamarina also does a cracking homemade spice bag.
He's a keeper in that case.

Good article about tracking down the origins of the Spice Bag.

It definitely deserves PDO status, like the Waterford Blaa !

Was it here I saw Ching-He Huang's name mentioned recently? Her book Asian Green has come on my radar and trying to decide whether to invest - are her recipes usually successful and delicious? I don't eat nearly enough Chinese and Chinese-adjacent food even though a lot can be easily veganised or is already vegan.

I can’t remember who is on the pip train but I have my Tribunal in just over 2 weeks.
The law centre are helping me, I’ve seen their submission for my case it’s really direct!
“For x descriptor DWP states 0 points, Hotes has clearly said she uses an aid and cannot reliably do x regularly, therefore she should get 4 points”
For Y descriptor DWP states Hotes does not need any assistance and does not take medication. This is untrue and contradicts Hotes application where she states she takes X and Y and Z daily.
That sounds like a nightmare. Do you have someone to go with you? Does the Law Centre send people?

Morning fraus! I wondered if anyone would be able to help me with a recommendation? It was my birthday on Friday and my lovely parents have offered as their present to me to buy me a mixer as I've been baking a lot lately, and using a hand blender which although does the job, isn't great and is on it's way out (I got it when I was at uni over a decade ago). I don't have space for a stand up one so am thinking of a hand mixer - I mostly make simple stuff like brownies but got Nadiya Bakes from a friend (what a delightful book, her love of food just shines through!) And there are some bread based recipes I'd like to try. I have looked on amazon and there are some hand mixers which look ok but I trust the cabal more on this kind of thing! Looking at anything under the £100 mark really. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Off Menu with James Acaster and Ed Gamble? They have guests they ask about their dream 3 course meal. And they are comedians. So it’s quite funny and very not serious.
came here to say this, but it might not be relaxing as it is often quiet high energy. Out to lunch with JayRayner is good, very calm

Tinned mango as recommended by Jack on DKL I just rewatched it

I bought tinned mango a few weeks ago and it was vile was I unlucky or does it not tin well? I eat other tinned fruit albeit not Mel Donte
I have found good tinned mango, the problem is when it is in syrup imo, everywhere i go the mangos seem to be  underripe otherwise and especially in lockdown etc i didn't want to be standing in the supermarket touching loads of different fruit

Has anyone made their own vanilla extract?

For ages people have been going on about their homemade vanilla that's been going for several decades and as I go though so many little pots of vanilla paste I must now have a go at it. Even though the extract won't be like the paste, but I gather you can squish out some beans from the homemade extract when needed.

I can't decide if I should use vodka or spiced rum. Part of me thinks vodka to keep it pure vanilla and so it starts off clear, the other part thinks spiced rum is yum and would go with just about every recipe that calls for vanilla.
Yes - and I tried it with vodka, dark rum and spiced rum as a test. The dark rum was sublime, imo.

Podcasts: I would echo Adam Buxton. A nice gentle listen. Can veer from silly to serious but who doesn't love a podcast that starts with a dog walk in the countryside?

If you like more off-the-wall silliness then I have binged through every single episode of Athletico Mince despite knowing next to nothing about football. I love it.

Third choice would be My Dad Wrote A Porno. I started listening to it on my travels a couple of years ago. Many giggles were stifled.

My ice cold take in Edinburgh is Makars gourmet mash, on The Mound. It’s usually #1 on trip advisor for several reasons- food is great, service is great, prices are great, owner seems to be obsessed with trip advisor. I worried that staff might get sacked if they didn’t get name checked on a review at least once per shift. Top food though.

Sorry for the off topic but struggling to sleep because it’s one of those nights you’re on the cusp of a panic attack? Has anyone got any podcast recommendations that aren’t about killers please but also are not annoying? The true crime ones tend to have the pace and tone that can get you to sleep but I can’t be listening to shit about Peter sutcliffe rn!!! But also can’t deal with an overly chirpy person discussing SATC. These are the only two interests I have clearly. any recs massively appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The Food Chain and The Food Programme - bound to be an episode or two among them that pique your interest!
