Addie refusing again... when will Emily learn? This isn't just a once or twice kind of thing now, it's every time she goes and does anything.. I know it's been said before, Lola did the same.. coincidence?

When she refused and had stood and looked at the fence, she clearly gave her a whack (or a few) as she edited a bit out and you can hear Fred say “that’s enough”. I quite like Emily and I think she’s a brilliant rider and Addie will be super but using the whip after the horse has stood and looked at the jump is pointless at best. I also think, if you think it’s acceptable to be whipping your horse for stopping a minute after it’s happened, at least have the transparency to leave it in the vlog

She’s not that great of a rider IMO, she’s just very gutsy. Addie is at a point where she’s not improving, but heading backwards, and Emily needs to listen to Addie. Her riding was awful at camp and just on her mouth most of the time, no wonder she’s stopping.

I just don’t see how Lucy puts the time in to her training, especially Ember. She’s always away or out drinking which is totally fine but if you want to succeed with eventing, you really have to be dedicated in doing so, and I don’t think Lucy is totally and it’s showing with Ember and he’s a horse that needs work and educating in that discipline.

It is pointless which is why if she did do that in public in a BRC competition she would be penalised or eliminated.

She’s not that great of a rider IMO, she’s just very gutsy. Addie is at a point where she’s not improving, but heading backwards, and Emily needs to listen to Addie. Her riding was awful at camp and just on her mouth most of the time, no wonder she’s stopping.

It also looks like Addie hates the bit she has. To me she has never looked settle in the mouth and could do with a bit fitter out to change the bit. I doubt she needs anything stronger just a different snaffle.

I think Emily is riding her a little differently since camp and it’s showing. Yes Addie has always been unsettled in the mouth and is even worse now since she is riding her “Fred Style!” I’m sure Emily can work through it, but the refusing jumps is becoming a habit for her now and I’d be interested to know why she is doing it. I’d love to see them go to Lucinda’s as I think she would benefit well.

I'm also not a fan of Emily's riding. You can see a lot of the time in her videos where Addie is quite behind the vertical and she praises her for being there. Now, obviously young horses can't physically carry the correct frame for a long period of time and will go above and behind the contact on occasion, that is fine - but if you listen to Emily she praises Addie at the wrong moments. In terms of the jumping, it clearly isn't going well so to keep going and going is stupid. Emily is very kicky and flappy, which may be relatively efficient on Sprite but it isn't on Addie and she has been told by numerous instructors to sit quiet and just doesn't. The stopping is getting out of hand, if I was Emily I'd be identifying that I'm not suitable to fix the problem (which is also fine, admitting you need help is nothing to be ashamed of) and potentially I'd send her away to someone for a few weeks schooling, then giving the mare a break. I really think BE is going to be a disaster for her at the moment..

I don’t think Fred’s way of training is particularly suited to Addie and that latest showjumping vlog is the worst I’ve ever seen Addie jump and the worst I’ve seen Emily ride. The mare does not cope well with strong riding, she needs quiet and considered riding.

At this point I think Frankie's mum just loves the positive attention from overcoming all these "problems" for both child and ponies. Addicted to the kick of being told what good owners they are, how caring they are. How amazing Frankie is at overcoming her health issues. These problems seem to arise and they say they're rehabbing, actually by carrying on jumping and then say how all the work they've put in as helped etc. Everything child and horses seems to be getting worse, not better. I actually think there are a lot of red flags in what she's posting.

If it was me I'd be tempted to take her right back down in height and build in confidence at different venues, fillers etc. If she's getting more spooky I'd consider scoping her, she's done a lot of travelling, which can sometimes start ulcers. I agree she doesn't look happy in her mouth and would be worth her getting a bitting specialist out. The riding does look a bit messy and flappy, but she is an amateur rider so I don't like to critise too much. Sometimes you have to make it happen on the flip side, I wouldn't want to have to be riding like that. If the heights not a problem may as well put the fences down and get them going over confidently than constant stopping all the time.

Agreed. I wouldn't really consider Addie a baby anymore - green yes, but not a baby. She has seen enough and had enough consistent work to not be losing her mind at fillers so I would be getting a professional involved to get her confidence back up. I'd love to see some more long and low stretchy work, Addie seems to be held in a tight frame at all times and is now throwing the toys out of the pram.

To give Emily credit she has tried to do things the right way (based on the advice of people around her) and been very transparent but it would be nice to see them moving forward not backwards at this point.

I would love to see Emily have a lesson with Lucinda. I watched the camp vlog and I didn’t have a clue what Fred meant half the time-he says a lot but I’m not sure I’d understand what he actually wants me to do, he seems to over complicate it.

I agree I don't think the height is the issue, I'd keep it low so she could go from an almost standstill, to maybe get out the habit of stopping and build confidence with fillers. Funny she hacks well without spooking. I don't follow her and this is the only video I've seen since last year but it looks like she needs a different approach with her.

Tbf if you watch the show jumping vlog, she isn’t actually spooking at the jumps, it’s everything else going on around her. She spooks at the judges box, then she has her eye on some horses walking in the distance then she spooks at something going on outside the arena fence. She’s not looking at the fences.

I don’t rate Fred’s teaching from the clips shown on the camp vlog, not my style of riding but each to their own.

I think Emily will be fine though, she has enough support available and I quite like seeing the problems because it’s realistic of your average rider trying to self-produce a horse. Do we always get it right? Nope definitely not.

I’m sure Meg will send Expert Bits down anyway and get her fixed up

What I find frustrating about Frankies ponies stories today are the things that are going wrong happen to all kids learning to ride. She’s making normal mistakes. But it just seems like any mistake needs a huge medical excuse. E.g. her not turning her shoulders to turn isn’t just Frankie being a kid and still learning how to ride, it’s her body not working properly. And that’s not to say her health problems don’t affect her riding. But can anything just be normal? And not a huge excuse behind things going wrong? It’s okay for things to go wrong. Actually, it’s inevitable

She left a video of her booting Addie in the ribs as hard as she could, tantrum style, in a vlog a few months back but people here seemed to think Addie was doing ok. She definitely chopped out some video of her hitting Addie in the camp vlog. I wonder if anyone who was there at camp with her will say something about it.
Addie is rushing which is usually from a lack of confidence. Addie has also been to the place she competed many times so she should be used to the place and their jumps by this point in time. I also want to see Emily and Addie succeed. What they are doing now isn't working and I agree that slowing down and getting some help in would highly benefit them.

Her mum wants everyone to think Frankie is an equestrian child prodigy. She's just a regular kid who has only been properly riding for 2 years.
