I see Carly tagged Lisa Wilkinson in a twitter post. Is there anyone famous she won’t tag? It’s a sad grab at fame.

I'm not sure. She likes to pontificate on all manner of topics, so I imagine she feels she's qualified to 🙄

Sorry for the long post, but here goes!

Carly did a keynote presentation at an event related to my work recently and it definitely raised some eyebrows. Of particular note was the extremely detailed story she told about discrimination she experienced while moving house recently.

She had arranged for bond cleaners, but did not inform them that it would require a deep clean (which costs more) due to 17 years of her skin throughout the property. They turned up and refused to clean it, which caused her so much stress she had to change her work days. She went into detail about how she did not believe she should have to report the extra requirements of this job and that this is an example of how people with disability are held to different expectations.

Later in her speech, she spoke at length about how she is at greater risk of covid due to disability and compromised immunity, and how society/workplaces are not respectful of accommodating those needs.

Afterwards, the discussion amongst my colleagues was:
- Cannot imagine the state of the place if there was so much visible dead skin over the property that the cleaners refused to do the job.
- Cleaners are often (but not always!) low income earners from diverse, vulnerable backgrounds who do incredibly hard work. They deserve the dignity of being informed about or prepared for the nature of the work they are required to do, and if the job is not requested honestly, they should not be forced to do it.
- The complete disrespect for the health of the cleaners, which is ironic given her comments about the lack of respect for her increased risk of covid. She does not know anything about their risk profile but does not consider it. The amount of bacteria that would accumulate on 17 years of dead skin is revolting.

The whole thing was… interesting.

God, that sounds absolutely revolting. What disgusting, entitled behaviour.

I feel like I’m going to be sick thinking about all the skin 🤮 the cleaners had every right to refuse to do the job and they should have absolutely been informed of the whole situation. It’s not discrimination it’s common courtesy!

she's such a hypocrite about her risk of getting covid. i know someone that is friends with her and they said she always insists on doing catchups indoors as she doesn't like being outdoors. so whilst she is raving on about how she is at high risk of covid, she forces her friends to increase their risk of contracting covid by socialising indoors. they told me about this a few months ago, when the omicron wave was really taking off. i was shocked that someone would be so selfish and ask all of their friends to put her preferences above their own health.

Carly isn’t immunocompromised. A simple google search clears that up: There is no evidence that individuals with ichthyosis are more susceptible to this type of virus (covid) or would be more severely affected than the general population. Some behaviors that spread this type of virus are common in people with ichthyosis.

It might make her susceptible to skin infections, but she’s not immunocompromised. I’d be more worried about picking something up in the house she was in.

I was a bit surprised when my friend said she had higher risk of covid. I thought maybe there was something to do with her condition that affected her lungs, or if she uses steroids for antiflammation but I wasn't sure. That's even worse then - if she is not actually at higher risk of covid, but constantly going on that she is for multiple reasons. 1. It draws attention away from the plight of people who actually are at higher risk of covid, and are basically still trapped in their homes as the world moves on without them. 2. People with disabilities and chronic illnesses are often not believed about the severity or extent of their conditions, and lying about it for sympathy/attention/god knows what other motivations she has just legitimises the general publics disbelief in chronically ill people. She is doing direct harm to the community that she claims to serve and advocate for.

This isn’t doing much for my opinion of her. I never see her doing any actual disability work. She’s as far removed as an activist as you’d get. Maybe she really is insufferable IRL.

She’s good at promoting herself and smoozing up to better known celebs and putting down others and that’s about it really.

Great anecdote @bigbigsound. I shouldn't be surprised by her entitlement anymore, but this post has me speechless. The absolute disrespect she had for the cleaners is astounding. Imagine if someone hired her husband for a job but failed to fully inform him of the working conditions - we'd be hearing about it for daaaays.

Is Carly’s instagram activism ever her own thoughts and ideas? Seems like she just shares things from other pages/people.

That's something I've noticed about her - she really seeks the approval of celebs, or people with blue ticks. She definitely considers herself as Australian A list 😆
Yes! I’ve seen her at a handful of events, always trying to get a photo with the celebrity (book readings, parties!)
