Thought I’d share a few of the books I’ve read recently would love to hear if you have read any ...

Suprise Me by Sophie Kinsella -it was ok nothing special really didn’t enjoy the main character though

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell - seen mixed opinions on this one , I read it in two sittings was gripped throughout and loved it. I can see what people mean when they say it was far fetched but I loved it

Half a World Away by Mike Gayle - read this one in two sittings aswell, loved it. The ending had me in pieces !

Also read one of us is lying by Karen m McManus - it’s a young adult type thriller didn’t find myself itching to read but enjoyed it in the end
I've downloaded Half a World Away by Mike Gayle and plan to read it this week :). I really liked All The Lonely People by him too.

I’ve just started the Midnight library hope it’s as good as people say it is.

Recently read the One by John Marrs and The Wives by Tarryn Fisher- would highly recommend both!

I've just finished the midnight library. It was a nice read. Bit predictable though in my opinion

If you're into non fiction, medical stuff, I'd recommend Unnatural Causes by Dr Richard shepherd (Pathologist) and Do No Harm and the follow up Admissions by Henry Marsh (Brain Surgeon).

Murder mystery/detective genre - the Nathan Cody Series by David Jackson is really good. Gripping enough to be a page turner but not too heavy if you know what I mean.

I've pretty much finished the Kathy Reichs 'Bones' series and I find it really enjoyable keep going back to a familiar character.

Part of my summer holiday tradition involves picking up books from either the shop on the caravan site or a local charity shop. I've found some really good and really terrible books! I missed doing it this year because you couldn't browse (and that's part of the fun) but a pub in the village had set up a book exchange box so I'll definitely be checking that out again next summer.

I absolutely loved half a world away!!! Enjoy x

Sorry if these have already been mentioned but I loved these thrillers ‘blood orange’ by Harriet tyce,
‘Before I go to sleep’ by sj Watson (both thrillers) and I read them approx 7 years ago now but tess gerritson ‘the surgeon’ series were brilliant x I’ve just finished Claudia winkleman ‘quite’ - just a collection of her musings but if you like her you’ll love it, I found it funny and well written x

Quite a few things!
Autumn by Ali Smith - I know I'm late to the game, and late in the year!
A Curious History of Sex by Kate Lister - A bit of light and fun history after reading so many heavy texts during my MA!
Madame de Pompadour by Nancy Mitford - I've been eyeing up Mitford's historical biographies for a while and on an impulse brought this one.
Crumbling Pageant by Elizabeth Inglis-Jones - I've been trying to support indie bookshops and publishers this year so picked this up from one that specialises in Welsh women's writing. It's about a decaying manor house, and I work in a now restored but once derelict manor house, so I'm really enjoying this!
Beatrice Webb: Woman of Conflict by Carole Seymour-Jones - a biography of a 19th century refomer/philanthropist recommended to me by one of my lecturers.

If you didn't guess already I'm a massive history nerd! I have a ridiculous pile of books on my bedside table that I'm half way through. My New Year's resolution is to read War and Peace so I should probably finish off a couple of these first - I'm dyslexic and don't know a massive amount about Russian history so I'll see how that does!

Has anyone read “the boy who followed his father into Auschwitz”? Based on a true story. Got it for Christmas and just about to start. The blurb sounds good!

I love me some youtube drama ?
and despite my awful grammar on here I actually love reading.
It’s usually books from the contemporary fiction/chick lit genre if I’m honest.
I’m not going to start discussing 1984 and Animal Farm,

I started this thread because I’d love to know your best reads of 2018 (or even of the last few years/of all time)
Suggestions and reviews would be welcome if that’s ok with the mods.
I’d really love to find more people interested in reading as well as watching illiterate YouTube stars innit ?

DS Butler, Carol Wyer and Carla Kovach all write crime thrillers set in the UK and there're quite a few series from each author following a specific detective. Helen Fields also wrote a good crime series featuring a set detective but I haven't read one of hers in a while. There were a few stand alone thrillers that I also enjoyed and I can't for the life of me remember. I'll search my Kindle later.

Ah. Shame! I love Karin Slaughter’s books set in Georgia, USA. My favourite thriller writer for sure.

In terms of British ones I don’t read a lot of U.K. thrillers, mostly Ian Rankin / Iain Banks.
