I've just downloaded Stolen after so many of you talking about it. Was only $0.99 so a bargain! Think I'll start it tonight.

Did you start? I started reading it earlier in the car in my 20 mins to kill doing the school run (yeah I arrive early to get a space and have a read in peace)... Haven't put it down yet and am now 53% in so pretty sure it's not getting put down until it's finished and I'm only getting a few hours sleep tonight!

It used to be my non sleeping child stole my sleep, now it's the recommendations on this thread!

I’m so glad so many are enjoying stolen 😛

had a few days where I couldn’t read,
so I’ve avoided this thread because I know I’d want to read 😂 does that even make sense 😂

time travelers wife - just my opinion - god awful book that’s been overhyped for no reason 😂

ghosts - parts were ok, I actully listened to it on audiobook and feel like I enjoyed it more in that format than I would if I was physically reading it.
So I might have made allowances for the fact it didn’t really have much going for it, because I wasn’t giving it much attention as I would if I was reading it myself.
Felt the same about her other book which was also an audiobook.

last few books I’ve read have been
- the Christmas Sisters
- One more for Christmas by Sarah Morgan.
Do not judge me 😂 I loved them 😂🤣
Especially the Christmas sisters.
oh and Prima Donna by Karen Swan. I’m sure I’m forgetting another.
Im finally getting though some older books I’ve had saved.

Quoting myself but bloody hell, that was good!

I thought it was the sister from the very beginning with the airport announcer in the background, only because I read a book before where the twist was that the baddie was in a different country so I immediately thought it was the same again. Would not have guessed the real truth in a million years!

I thought it was a bit far fetched about the fake sighting of the thin man because the bridesmaid thought the fella she fancied might have done it, so she pre-emptively gave him an alibi - unless she was into kids too why would she want to marry him??

Oh and that now takes me to book 60 for the year out of my reading target of 50 and still 1/4 of the year left! What can I read next?

I only managed to get about 30% of the way through but am hooked! Wish I didn’t have to work tomorrow so I could spend the morning finishing it.

I ❤ Christmas chick lit so I shall add these to my list. I usually try and wait till mid November to start reading them and then it’s almost like a race to try and get through as many as possible before Christmas!

You're dead to me @Oohthedrama. Absolutely dead to me. (Joking).

If you enjoy Christmas reads then Paula Hawkins wrote some good ones under the pseudonym Amy Silver. They should be on the Kindle store. And I have a secret spot for Kate Harrison's The Secret Shopper series. The first one is partly set at Christmas and then I'm sure there's one entirely based in the festive season.

I read half of Hostage by Claire Mackintosh yesterday and I’m really enjoying it. Hoping to finish today.

I didn't know that Paula Hawkins and Amy Silver were the same person @smellsofbiscuits ! I love when authors have pseudomnyms for different genres. It's like Nora Roberts also seeing wild success in a diff genre as J. D. Robb.

@mindlessness I just stumbled across it in a random Guardian article yonks ago! Get the vibe they were very much written to order and she didn't enjoy working on them. Will see if I can find the article. However they are very good and definitely better quality of writing from some books written in that genre.

I've just finished Stolen by Tess Simson, it really hooked me in and I didn't see the ending coming. I loved it, thanks for the recommendation 😀 I've also read the White Queen and The Red Queen, both by Philippa Gregory, I've had them stashed in my reading list for ages. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with a Philippa Gregory book, she's such a great writer. I'm currently reading The Push by Ashley Audrain and I'm loving it, it's incredibly moving but very dark at times. My next book is going to be Moths by Jane Hennington.

my weakness - books set at Christmas/December. 😂

I also read Milly Johnson/I wish it could be Christmas every day last week, which just sounds so bad, it’s the title… I don’t understand the title at all in relation to the book 😕
but I loved it, it was much better and deeper than I expected!

my thread suggestions are awesome 😂😂

starting this today;

Picked up The Governess by Wendy Holden from the library, the whole 'for fans of The Crown' tag/marketing approach definitely won me over. Only a a few chapters in, not immediately clicking with it, but I'm hopeful still!

Not the best reading month for me, almost halfway through and I've only finished one book and have started and DNF'd a couple of books now. Hoping the second half of the month has more to offer me though...

I just checked out Hostage and it's $10.49 in the US - I hate how expensive some Kindle books are here :( Will add it to my wishlist and hope it comes down in price.

My Christmas favourite is Calling Mrs Christmas by Carole Matthews
I love all of Carole Matthews Christmas books :)

I read the Stopover by TL Swan yesterday. My friend recommend it but I just dont think 'romance' books are for me. It wasnt awful or anything but sex and books just isnt for me. Just find it boring 😂

Im just about to start My Wife Jodie by V.A Rudys. Has anyone read this? The reviews are quite good.

I really really really realllllly enjoyed Milly Johnson “I wish it could be Christmas everyday”

if anyone wants to read a book outside the Christmas period do it!

All time fav is probably something by Karen Swan, but her Christmas books really just have Christmas in the title and Christmas is about 10 pages of a 400 page book. 😂

two of my all time favourite “contemporary” books (not just Christmas favourite)
Christmas at Tiffany’s - excellent book - I think Christmas is only mentioned in the last 15 pages.
well worth a read any time of the year.

Christmas in the snow - not a Christmas book, it’s Christmas on the last few pages, loved it 🤣

'Ey up, all!
Just had a week off work and got through 2 short books,

'Twas the Nightshift before Christmas by Adam Kay - more of the same easy readable real life medical mishaps and horrors, just as good as This Is Going to Hurt but much shorter.

The Examined Life by Stephen Grosz, real life tales from the psychiatrist's couch, as thoughtful and sensitive as you'd expect.

Previously finished Cabin Fever. What an absolute bonkbuster! I'm not one for pearl clutching, but she really shoehorned in a LOT of smut! Made me want to read the Air/Hotel/Pop Babylon series again
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_series_(Imogen_Edwards-Jones)

Also Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple - it was diverting enough and I finished it. However, Where'd You Go, Bernadette was similar and superior, and is now a major motion picture starring Cate Blanchette!

My standout recent read is Shuggie Bain - finished in a day! Possibly file under misery porn but it was so, so good. Reminded me of Irvine Welsh (and I read everything of his though feel I should stop) but Douglas Stuart writes with way more humanity and is far more sympathetic with his characters. VERY emotive, not one if you're only here for a good time. As my mum used to say, if it wasn't for bad luck, they'd have no luck at all.

Went mad and have bought Stolen as well with my own actual money so that's my next read, looking forward to it! Thanks for the recommendation!
