Didn’t realise there was a books thread on here - can I join?
I’ve read 13 books this year so far, currently reading Hostage by Clare Mackintosh. My husband has recently got back into gaming in the evenings and I’m trying to pick books up instead of doom scrolling on social media all night. Probably a good idea as I’ve got probably close to 800 books in the house that I haven’t read . . . Yet it doesn’t stop me from weekly library reservations

ACOTAR has been on my list for ages and I’m going to finally give it a go - has anyone listened to it rather than read it (or have you both listened and read), and would you recommend the audiobook?

I’d read it personally. Apparently the audio book isn’t very good with the narration voice and whilst there’s definitely some key plot points (that if you have tiktok you’ve almost certainly unwittingly heard) that sound better than read better I think you’d miss a lot.

But I am not an audio book fan and find reading anything that isn’t paperback really difficult. I read the first two on my kindle then went and bought them in paperback as I didn’t take it all in.

I have heard the 'dramatised' version of the audio of ACOTAR is great.

Im about 70% through The Appeal. I have been hooked. I was busy all day yesterday and exhausted at bedtime but I urged myself to stay up to read more. I think I should finish it today!

I listened to the whole series!

I loved them personally but I am a big audiobook fan.

I’ve been rereading the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo for my book club and it’s still not a 5 star for me- I’m enjoying it but still don’t get all the hype. I prefer everything else I’ve read of hers!

I don’t like any of the “other” TJR books - Malibu Rising, Seven Husbands, Daisy Jones, Carrie Soto but have given her other reads 5 *. After I Do is probably one of my fave reads.

What's your favourite from her? I've only read Evelyn Hugo and daisy Jones. Enjoyed both but also not 5 stars for me. I hardly ever give 5 stars though, only give that for books that I can't stop thinking about or ones that I would want to reread multiple times

I'm about a quarter through Carrie Soto and enjoying it. Also slowly reading The Devil You Know: Encounters in Forensic Psychiatry.

Someone said on here that non-fiction takes them much longer than fiction and that is certainly the case for me. For anyone into true crime or with a fascination for psychopaths (yeah, I dunno why either) I'd recommend The Devil You Know. I am having to intersperse it with Carrie Soto as it is heavy.

Okay, I won’t Is it the book Noah Baumbach adapted for screen last year?

Yes it is, but I didn't know about the film version until five minutes ago. The book didn't exactly scream blockbuster, so I'm surprised it's been adapted.

I really enjoyed the devil you know! Did take me a while to read but I’d borrowed from the library so that pushed me to read quicker it was also fun to tell my boyfriend about anything shocking or interesting from the book

I'm not sure what to pick to read next from my TBR. I've just finished Spare (skipped the army bits and just wanted the tea and fuckery ) I have:

The Paper Palace
Shrines of Gaiety
Bunny
Lessons in Chemistry
Notes on an Execution

I want something a little lighthearted and mindless (hellish week at work) which rules out the last one, even though Lessons in Chemistry hasn't had rave reviews here it might have to be that one.

My take on each of these;


The Paper Palace - a total meh book in my opinion.
Shrines of Gaiety - haven’t heard of it.
Bunny - it’s on my TBR based off recommendations on here.
Lessons in Chemistry - loved it!
Notes on an Execution - didn’t finish it as I found it so slow.

I loved the Daisy Jones audiobook (read on kindle a few years previously) and really enjoyed Malibu rising and Carrie Soto (think I’m in the minority there!) I will read the rest of her work too as I like her writing but I think if she rewrote Evelyn Hugo now she’d do a better job as I feel like her writing is improving.
