Anyone else get the feeling of not wanting to pick up a book but knowing you’ll be sucked in as soon as you start reading? I don’t know what’s stopping me from just grabbing a book and getting stuck in 🙈
i have a really weird thing similar to this where i hold off on reading books i know i’m going to really enjoy until a time that i know i can properly savour them. i also arrange my to read pile into seasons and moods though so i maybe overthink it too much!

i haven’t really picked anything up because i’m going on holiday in a week (with some fun looking holiday romcom reads [abby jiminez, the ex hex etc] for me to read by the pool and on the plane) and i don’t want to start anything that i might not finish before i go. i know that’s weird 🤦🏼‍♀️

Same, I didn't care for any of the characters at all. Then the ending was so rushed!
it read to me like it was the first book in a series - the ending was so frustrating as it seemed to stop as soon as the story was actually getting started!

I totally get this! We booked a holiday this week and I’ve already thought to save a certain book for then. I wouldn’t mind but we aren’t going until July 😂

i was looking to see what you thought of it! sad, beautiful and brave are probably the perfect words for it. i don’t think i’ve seen it compared to de profundis before but i think that’s the perfect pairing for it. there’s lot of similarities in how bosie and giovanni are described 🤔
There is indeed! But David was nowhere near as courageous as Oscar Wilde.

Has anyone read All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankam Mathews? I love the cover art but it’s so long I don’t know whether I want to start reading it. I think I will start To Paradise next.

Lessons in a chemistry felt like it was being written with a view to turning it into something on Netflix

@LaBlonde names like Duchess, Star, and if you can believe it, Walk . I thought CoHo had a tenancy for odd names but this just took the biscuit.

Oh my god. I've FINALLY finished reading Behind the Engima - The Authorised History of GCHQ. Been at it on and off for several months now. Was interesting in parts, but so dry. My god, what a slog. But refused to DNF. now I can finally start reading Matthew Perry's book.

I refuse to have more than 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction on the go at the same time. So I've been having to get through this book. Really put me off starting the History of Five Eyes book anytime soon as well.

I’ve just finished Hostage - this was a good thriller . . . . Really twisty and I got through it very quickly. Now starting Into The Fire by Gregg Hurwitz which is book 5 in the Orphan X series.

I’m already behind with GOODREADS when last year I was always 5ish books ahead of target. I just can’t find anything that excites me, which is ridiculous I know as there’s So Much choice and some great recommendations on this thread. What kick started your mojo again if/when you slumped?

welcome to all the new bookworms, great to have more recommendations and reviews 😊
When I'm slumped I either go back and read a favourite book. Or I pick up a short read, less than 200 pages.

I'm doing a lot of commuting at the moment so attempting some audiobooks. I've started Becoming by Michelle Obama - has anyone read it? It's interesting but not blowing me away so far and I've still got 12 hours left to listen to 😬

Ive had this in audible library for about 2 years and the sheer length of it has put me off 😂 this has not encouraged me to start it.

🤣 I'd listened to about 2 hours of it before and deleted it when I saw I still had 17 hours to go but decided to attempt it again.

I've had it on in the background today and managed to power through a few hours, it's easy enough to listen to.

I'm hoping it'll get better when Barack becomes POTUS but I'm 6 hours in and it's not happened yet.

Yeah this isnt the one 😂 I will likely just keep buying audio books instead. 🙈 or maybe I will try it. If I dont do it this year I will put it on my A-Z next year

I enjoyed it! I read it though not audio but got through it quite quickly. I found the bits about her life before being first lady more interesting than the end. I think it would be different if I read it now though as I feel she's on podcasts and interviews all the time revealing her marriage dramas etc whereas when I read it I didn’t really know much about her.

I have the first of Barack Obama's that someone bought me as a gift and the length of that is so daunting I don't think I will even bother 😂

I’ve had this sitting on my Kindle for ages and have kept scrolling past it. These comments aren’t encouraging me to pick it up anytime soon!

Interestingly the Kindle blurb says the typical time to read is just over 8 hours so why is the audiobook so much longer?? Does she read reallllyyy slowwwly or are most Kindle readers subsonic?!
(Not an audiobook person so no idea if that’s a normal difference!)

so far, so very good. if you’re a fan of historical fiction i would definitely recommend, not far in but very much enjoying it.

I'm sorry for putting everyone off it lol

She's not very slow but I tried at 1.25x speed and found I was missing parts of what she was saying and not really taking it in.

I have 15 hours of sitting on trains this week so I'll be done by Friday.

I use speed 1.20 on audible for almost all books. Its far too slow otherwise but some read faster than others and those I need to listen at real speed.

I enjoyed Becoming (I read it, didn’t listen to it!) but I don’t think I ever actually finished it. I find memoirs probably the hardest to pick up because I don’t find then as page turnery if you know what I mean? Saying that, I’ve just started I’m Glad my Mom Died but it’s quite short so hopefully won’t take too long to read!

Ive read 9 books this year so far, this time last year Id read 5 so the year has got off to a flying start.

I have taken 5 off my TBR pile and Im currently reading another 2 which are on there. Read a few KU books aswell. Im so proud of myself that I have resisted buying anything.

Annoyingly I have £2.06 kindle credit that expires at the end of the month 🙈 and Im telling myself just let it expire. You. Do. Not. Need. Any. Books.

Then the devil in me is like FREE BOOKS WOOHOO

Spend the credit. You will regret wasting free books if you don't.
