It might be religious or cultural I guess re: egg hunts. I’m not on IG but I remember it used to be a time with lots of arts and crafts like blown egg painting, basket weaving, and Easter bonnet making. This is making me sound a bit Little House on the PrairieI am hoping the same. these things have a habit of growing wings though
My kids are in their 40s and I don't remember egg hunts at that time. but maybe other areas had them. Where I lived we only had low key parties for Halloween, apple bobbing and telling spooky stories we didn't have guising like Scotland and Ireland.
I enjoy a holiday event and little things that punctuate the year if they have meaning and are fun. If they encourage activity and interaction away from screen time.
What I think has happened over the last 15 years or so, is a blurring of the lines re: seasonality of events - so we just get over Christmas and Easter eggs are in the shops. Mid-Jan and Valentine’s stuff is everywhere shortly followed by Mother’s Day. It’s like a conveyor belt of commercialism.
I wonder if some aspects of social media encourage people to buy themed stuff that you’ll use once and then throw away because you don’t have the space to store it or it’s too poor quality to reuse. I wish people would remember that not only does this stuff end up in landfill sites across the planet, most of it doesn’t break down organically.
