I’m going to my first wedding dress appointment on Saturday! Any tips? Anything I should take? I have no idea on hair or shoes yet as probably depends on the dress.... but thinking maybe I should take a clip to pin hair up so I can see what it’s like?
I second the nude underwear but I ended up whipping my bra off at the appointments to get a proper view 😂

I would recommend doing your hair and makeup nicely to get an idea of what you’ll look like on the day. I went to an appointment all relaxed and felt ‘meh’ about some dresses as I didn’t look finished if that makes sense.

Have fun and if you feel comfortable, take recommendations from the shop assistants. My dress wasn’t one that I picked out initially but they found for me based on my likes/dislikes as I tried others on. Don’t feel pressured to say yes on your first visit and take lots of photos and videos so you can look back, see how the dresses looked and moved on you and how they photograph.

What are people going for for entrance songs? I haven’t even given a thought to music 🙈
I’m having Pachelbel’s Canon in D. I know it’s a bit basic but I love it. We have a string quartet so I think it will sound beautiful 😍

FYI for everyone who like me is massively unaware of how to plan a wedding…

We’re 8 weeks away and suddenly being asked for timings, and exact plans for the day.. stuff I had no idea I needed to have decided this early 🤣

thank you 🙏🏻 this is all so useful. I think you’re right about going with a bit of make up and hair done to help imagine the ‘look’. I’ve long straight hair so I might curl it so it has a bit of a wave then I can make a half bun or bun if I need to see the dress with hair up.
I definitely need help from the assistant! I am open minded to see what dresses will work on me. I know what I like but no idea if it will look any good. Good idea to take a video as well (assuming they allow it!)

Wedding Coordinator here 👋
Depends on venue, but most final details such as those, don't need be finalised until your final details meeting. This is normally between one month to 6 weeks before your wedding date
For the final details meet you will need
-Your preferred timings for everything
-details of your suppliers i.e. is there certain things arriving at certain times like your cake
-your final numbers
- meal choices and any guests with dietary requirements
- table plan
- music choices (you will need 3-4 songs for guests arriving, your aisle song, 2 songs for signing register and a leaving the ceremony song)
- also ask what they do in terms of the wedding breakfast, if they provide music or ask if you can give them a Spotify playlist
- remember to ask if there is a master of ceremonies, because if not you will need to assign someone to make announcements and also make sure there is a PA system in the venue for speeches.

I think I didn’t realise that the meeting I had today was our final details meeting 🤣 or the first part of it. they’ve got the stuff that we know now - menu, timings (made up on the spot), general plan for the day, just need to finalise numbers and seating plan in the next couple of weeks.

We’ve got the arrival, signing and leaving songs sorted (had to provide them tk the registrar last month.. again, something I didn’t realise we needed to have sorted that early)

Our photographer has also asked for details of the day, photos etc which I also haven’t really thought about yet 🤦🏻‍♀️

And here I was thinking I was quite prepared!

Booked a mini-moon for the day after the wedding! A nice little lodge with a hot tub for me, h2b and our 2 pups :)

My wedding is in March, I realised I have 7 weekends before the wedding - made me feel sick 😂

Our original date was Feb 2021 so I literally booked all of my suppliers back in 2020, bought bridesmaid dresses and my dress, all of that, and then in Nov 2020 we made the decision to postpone and I just left everything for nearly a year - I got really sad and lost all steam for the planning and think I maybe left it longer than I should have as suddenly it feels like a lot to do.

Just on the what traditions we are keeping/leaving out talk:
- I am still having my dad walk me down the aisle however I am not having the "Who gives this woman to this man" shtick in the ceremony because my partner is not getting a dowry and a goat 🙃
- I have shown my partner my dress. I got a lot of family members shocked at me for doing this but I'm really not bothered! And my partner's memory is shocking sooo... 😂
-I so agree with comfy shoes! I have Doc Marten style off-white boots for mine with satin laces
- We are having a first dance, mainly on my request as he hates dancing, but we are only doing it for 20 seconds before inviting guests up. Not picked music yet though that is imminent!
- No removing the garter/bouquet toss - hate both, I think these have really died down as traditions now anyway!
- Similarly I'm also not opposed to if we see/speak to each other before the ceremony
- We are also serving our wedding cake as dessert so the cutting will be early and we can make sure everyone enjoys the cake! (This is mainly because the venue scaled back the package to a 2 course meal for 2022 weddings and for some reason didn't feel the need to honour the original 2021 package we booked but whatevs that's minor in the grand scheme)

Main things for us now are finalising menu choices, picking music, final meetings and settling all our bills at end of this month! And I have my hair/mua trial next weekend! Even though I have an extensive spreadsheet I feel like I'm missing something 😂

Just found this thread, I’m off to view potential wedding venues today! 👰🏻‍♀️

Originally we were planning to get married abroad in a few years time. But since having a baby (and not wanting to wait ages to have another) I feel like I just want to do it asap! So now we’re looking at a smaller wedding in this country, hopefully next year 🤞🏼

My partner has a huuuuge family, and even though he doesn’t really know a lot of them he feels like he has to invite them. So we’ve decided to have an intimate ceremony with only our immediate families and closest friends, then everyone else will be invited to the evening. I don’t think they will all come either so I’m hoping to keep the numbers still fairly low!

Sorry I haven’t actually read all of the thread yet so this might have already been mentioned, but are you all having children at your weddings? We’ve decided not to (except for our own who will be 2 and my flower girl) - if we did, there’d be 23 of them all under 10! How did your guests react when you told them, did anyone get anyone moaning about it?

Nope the only child we’re having is my 4 year old niece as she’s a flower girl, she’s the only child in our families, but not having any others as I want people to enjoy a day child free!

No, it’s the registrar equivalent of having your Banns reading
Thank god😅 thank you!

I have a big family and we decided that we would just invite the aunties & uncles to the ceremony on my side and then invite the cousins and their children to the evening.

I’m not having children to the day, but the only person who has a child is my maid of honour and her child will be almost 3 then and she’s happy not to bring him along as it will be a faff as she said!

Us too we’re just having aunties and uncles, and only 3 cousins each that we actually bother with, the rest of the cousins will be invited to the evening

I added it up and all of my cousins, plus their partners & their children came to 45 people 😩! No way could I afford to pay for all of those for the ceremony!
My fiancé only has one cousin and he is the best man!
