I'm in my early thirties before you think I'm in another generation, also getting married this year just for a bit of background on myself. There’s no shame in the game honey! I think it’s a generational thing -people over a certain age think it’s crass to ask for money but most people live together before getting married these days so why do they need stuff for the house?!
We are just saying ‘your presence is a present’ but if you insist on giving us a gift please feel free to contribute towards our honeymoon. If you Google polite ways to ask for money for a wedding you should find some suitable wording.
Really? Can I ask why? I agree that a poem is cringe but think asking for a contribution to a honeymoon in a nice way is fine!
I’ve not with my partner, but my partner is very picky about his clothes, especially suits and he wouldn’t go for it if it wasn’t perfect!![]()
“Apparently” because he wears suits everyday, he want’s it to be special. So he wanted a print on it and trust me, he would not suit a print!I will be going with my other half, dreading it because hes sooooo picky![]()
I’ve just told my fiancé and said exactly this, I’d be buying them a candle or something home related. Yes everyone asks for money or gift vouchers but you can’t just write it like that. It will get peoples backs up! Money is always a sensitive issue and you do have to dress it upThis came up before and I'm probably going to burated for this opinion but I don't care, I'd go out of my way to not give cash in that case I think it's unnecessary![]()
Sorry to hear you’re feeling that way, I go for my first alteration appointment next month and I’m so worried. I also keep thinking why did I go for a dress with the back outNot sure if it’s been asked already, but does anyone have some amazing recommendations for the highest power best ever sucky in knickers. Because I’ve just got my dress back from being adjusted and I can’t stop staring at my fat round belly, it looks like I’m pregnant but I’m not, I feel very self conscious and sad right now. Should of bloody stuck to the diet I knowplease help

I think it’s a generational thing -people over a certain age think it’s crass to ask for money but most people live together before getting married these days so why do they need stuff for the house?!I occasionally dip into mumsnet to read the trending threads and there’s one on there today about child free weddings and people asking for money instead of gifts. The poster said that the wedding they’d been invited to had a little poem to ask for cash instead of presents and everyone was saying how tacky this is.
We were planning to ask people for money towards our honeymoon instead of gifts (if they did want to give us anything) as we’ve lived together for years. I wasn’t going to do a poem as such but how do you communicate that with your guests without sounding like “give me money”?

I’m going on Wednesday…. I hope it goes this well for me!!I said yes to the dress yesterday! Had zero intention or expectations but actually found the dream dress in the first shop I tried! How's everyone else's dress shopping going?
I’m not having a hen party as such, more of a meal and cocktails kind of thing or a spa day. Two of my party (maid of honour and my mum) are disabled and struggle to walk, so I’m planning around them. Also my MOH struggles a lot financially, so I’m probably going to pay for her if we do a spa as I don’t want her to miss out.Guys, what is your opinion on hens parties? I was thinking a weekend away, but I don’t want everyone to have to pay, especially if they don’t want to/can’t afford it.
Maybe a nice dinner and drinks with everyone?
We're not doing them! Think its a waste of moneyWhat is everyone doing for wedding favours?! I can’t decide if they are a complete waste of time/money or if it will look bad if we don’t get any for our guests! Interested in people’s thoughts…
I’m not stressed about it either. I’ve always been a very laid back “what will be will be” kind of person. Is anyone else worried they aren't stressed enough?I keep seeing and hearing that it's so stressful and a friend of mine also getting married next year put up a status on social media warning people not to bother wedding planning because of how stressful it is. And I'm just sat there wondering why it's so stressful and have I missed/forgotten something major
