How would ye feel about having an immediate family private ceremony and just inviting the majority of guests to the reception from around 3pm?
I think that would be lovely! An intimate ceremony and a shorter day for all your other guests - I can’t see what anyone would have to complain about.. but I’m sure people you are inviting will give it a go anyway 😆🤦🏻‍♀️ That always seems to be the way with weddings..

——————————————————————
I am feeling happy as I’ve ticked off another paperwork job for my civil ceremony today, and they country where we are getting married should have removed all covid restrictions by mid June 🤞🏻 So I’m hoping this means no masks for the ceremony!

I got these ones from asos! Only cheap and a nice block heal my dress will cover them anyway, and I want to get some converse for the evening so will only be wearing them for the ceremony 😅
I’ll be wearing my converse to the evening as well!😂

I will be wearing either white converse or white vans as my wedding shoes. I don’t do heels and hate having my feet exposed with strappy shoes. I just want to be comfortable, my friend wore white crocs for her wedding reception, don’t blame her one bit I only noticed because she showed me😂
I’m only wearing heels to the ceremony because my fiancé is 6”4 and I’m 5”2 and I don’t want us to look like little & large on the wedding photos 😂

Rant
My MIL keeps implying how I shouldn't be spending a lot of money on my wedding dress and its bothering me
She keeps suggesting renting a dress, buying second hand etc and keeps implying i shouldn't be spending a lot on a dress
Which annoys me for 2 reasons
1- she isn't paying anything towards my dress so how's it her business, and neither is my h2b (even if he was, again its not her business)
And 2- her husband (my h2b stepfather), his daughter that they NEVER see, is getting married and they've paid for her wedding dress which cost £4k!

This isn't the only thing she's offered an opinion on, we've picked a gorgeous venue but before we put the deposit down she was sending us venues that looked so nasty. One looked like an old man's pub. Shes not offered to pay anything towards the wedding so again, I don't know how its her business.

My partner and I are paying the entire wedding ourselves, apart from my dress which my parents have offered to pay.
Since she is contributing to this £4k wedding dress, I think my partner will be very hurt if she doesn't even offer to pay towards the kilt hire or anything.
Tell her to fuck off! Just say don’t you worry lovely you’re not paying anything so why does it matter what we decide

Do you get to do tasting at your venue beforehand? You could try having the exact meal you’re going to have on the day and it might help you feel more confident that it won’t make you ill. Not sure how feasible that is though and I suppose you’d have to make sure they make it the exact same way on the day too.
Yes we do! I guess my only concern really would be that on the day, the meal might get mixed up or cross contamination might happen. I’m so terrified of eating gluten in day to day life, but if I eat it at my wedding, it will ruin the rest of the day because I’ll be so ill. :(

I think I’m just going to bring loads of snacks for my hotel room, just in case. I can go hours without eating as im used to going hungry, so I’d rather do that than be ill, it sounds crazy, but I’m so paranoid! 😂

I had an email this morning saying I need to pay the balance on my honeymoon as it’s only 10 weeks away! So exciting but also a bit daunting how much I need to do between then and now 😬

Bottomless brunch

A cocktail masterclass with the person coming to our apartment and a grazing board to eat whilst we do the class/after the class
We get ready, play some games in the apartment

Ooh finally a wedding thread! I’m getting married in January.

The only bad/dramatic thing that’s happened in our planning is I had to fire my maid of honour/my closest friend because she turned into a bridesmaidzilla

I’ll probably come back to properly rant about it later but for now I’m glad there’s a wedding thread ❤

Our whole wedding is coming in at about £11k. I went over budget on the dress (panic bought right before first lockdown) but other than that I've DIY'd a lot, designed all my own invites, centrepieces etc so I think I've saved on a lot. Our biggest money saving was the venue (winter package).
I think it's all about spending within your means by setting an affordable budget. It can be so difficult when it comes to venue/catering though, prices get silly!
I've heard horror stories about couples paying for their entire weddings on credit cards 😬
I went over on the dress too🙈 but my invites were cheap, we got a deal on the rings & we have no transport, so we’ve saved where we can!

before we booked our venue, we had a look at what money we had saved up between the two of us and we set our budget based on what money we already had in the bank. We already own a house, so we could spend what we had saved.

I need everyone to manifest for me that I win one of the wedding dress competitions I entered on the weekend 😂😂

Also from the wedding fair I've booked a dress appointment, my wedding cake and my invitations. Also got a quote for kilts.
Just need a florist

Some people are just nasty! If they don’t have anything nice to say, they shouldn’t say anything at all! We have a subtle Mickey & Minnie theme to ours.

people keep saying to me (people from work or people who aren’t close to me and don’t know me personally) that there’s no point in getting married because it just ends in divorce and that it’s all a waste of money 😩. It’s so rude and bitter, I wasn’t very happy growing up & alls I want is to enjoy my bit of happiness without people dragging me down🙄!
Some people are bitter and hate to see anyone happy. More reflection on them than you just remember that.

FYI for everyone who like me is massively unaware of how to plan a wedding…

We’re 8 weeks away and suddenly being asked for timings, and exact plans for the day.. stuff I had no idea I needed to have decided this early 🤣
Wedding Coordinator here 👋
Depends on venue, but most final details such as those, don't need be finalised until your final details meeting. This is normally between one month to 6 weeks before your wedding date
For the final details meet you will need
-Your preferred timings for everything
-details of your suppliers i.e. is there certain things arriving at certain times like your cake
-your final numbers
- meal choices and any guests with dietary requirements
- table plan
- music choices (you will need 3-4 songs for guests arriving, your aisle song, 2 songs for signing register and a leaving the ceremony song)
- also ask what they do in terms of the wedding breakfast, if they provide music or ask if you can give them a Spotify playlist
- remember to ask if there is a master of ceremonies, because if not you will need to assign someone to make announcements and also make sure there is a PA system in the venue for speeches.

I'm actually a wedding coordinator as a profession and in all honesty any brides I've had that decided to do their hair and make up themselves are substantially more stressed in the morning
Plus say you did go and buy the make up yourself, eyeshadow as a example, the ABH palette I see most make up.artists use alone is £50
Plus your primer, foundation, powder, bronzer, blusher, Highlighter, mascara and false lashes and setting spray
And you'll need to have enough of everything to do a couple of trials beforehand so keep that in mind.
Personally I always find when I've got something important, it's always the ONE day my eyebrows don't look right and my eyeliner goes uneven so I'm paying someone 😂
Not everyone would either want or need to wear all above mentioned on the day. If you are comfortable and confident in doing your own make up - do it. Any products you buy, are yours to keep so it’s not wasted money if you do buy a few new bits. If you do your own make up I’d probably have a professional do your eyebrows and lashes a few days prior so that you don’t have to worry so much about those on the day but other than that, if you want to do your own then do it. You definitely do not have to have a MUA do your wedding make up.

Do you think it’s a generational thing re cost of weddings?

I felt like my mum was similar re wedding dress and pestering me to look at cheaper places to buy a dress. In the end I just ordered my dress without further discussion. I (luckily) earn decently and as I will hopefully only get married once I was happy to spend a bit more to get the style of dress I really wanted. I know it’s just one day etc, but there’s a balance isn’t there and sometimes going cheaper on something that you’ll wear all day and be in every photo isnt worth it!
I also thinking wedding dresses have gone up a lot, due to cost of materials and extra import fees and no doubt the designers having to pay more manufacturing costs. My friend got married 5 years ago and her dress was alot cheaper but I honestly researched alot of bridal shops and prices seemed to start around £1000 mark for simple satin shapes. Anything with lace seemed upwards of £1500. I tried on one dress that was £2500 which felt v expensive but it was all lace to be fair.
Could be a mix of generational and also just different personalities.

my mum grew up poor (she’s 57) and she’s of the opinion that if you can afford it and you want it then you get it. She sees nothing wrong with me spending over 1k on a dress if it’s the one I want.

whereas MIL (54) had an average upbringing, but is very clingy with money, she doesn’t like to part with it and she doesn’t like to see her children or their partner‘s spend theirs either! She’s always whining about how much money we spend on different things even though we have no debts, own our home etc!
