Rant
My MIL keeps implying how I shouldn't be spending a lot of money on my wedding dress and its bothering me
She keeps suggesting renting a dress, buying second hand etc and keeps implying i shouldn't be spending a lot on a dress
Which annoys me for 2 reasons
1- she isn't paying anything towards my dress so how's it her business, and neither is my h2b (even if he was, again its not her business)
And 2- her husband (my h2b stepfather), his daughter that they NEVER see, is getting married and they've paid for her wedding dress which cost £4k!

This isn't the only thing she's offered an opinion on, we've picked a gorgeous venue but before we put the deposit down she was sending us venues that looked so nasty. One looked like an old man's pub. Shes not offered to pay anything towards the wedding so again, I don't know how its her business.

My partner and I are paying the entire wedding ourselves, apart from my dress which my parents have offered to pay.
Since she is contributing to this £4k wedding dress, I think my partner will be very hurt if she doesn't even offer to pay towards the kilt hire or anything.

Trying to decide whether to invite my MIL to be to my hen party.. 😬 thoughts anyone?
I'm inviting mine, despite her opinions on the wedding which are annoying me we get along very well.
If you didn't want to invite her to the main hen party you could do something low key for just say your bridal party and mum and mil, like an afternoon tea or something.

Yeah I’ve decided to ask my best friend as well as my sisters. She can be a bit overbearing at times but she means well and I’m counting on my sisters to keep her in line!

I’m curious, why is your fiancés sister scary haha?
She's a morbid, creepy kid - like Wednesday Addams or something. I know it sounds mean but everyone thinks so lol (except him, he says I'm a wimp that's scared of a child for no reason LOL)

I’m gluten free (coeliac disease) so I’m not sure I’ll be going for biscuits. I’d be worried about the crumbs! 😂

I’m going to be so paranoid about eating on my wedding day, if I eat even a small amount of gluten I get a splitting migraine and I start vomiting, it would ruin my wedding day!

I don’t know if I’m going to eat the meal provided, even though they say it’s safe… I might just fill up on safe snacks that I’ve brought! 😂

So I make my fiance watch Say Yes to the Dress with me. And every time we watch he offers opinions on certain dresses.
I sent him 15 dresses from a variation of shops i was going to book in appointments for, and out of 15 he likes 3...
All from them same shop thankfully. But 3 out of 15!
Oh Christ this sounds like making a rod for your own back 😅

You never know, you may end up with something totally different anyway - I know I did! Went through three different iterations before I found my dress and my partner would not expect it at all, because I didn’t myself.

I showed him pictures from my first trip shopping but he didn’t get to state a preference either haha.

Enjoy dress shopping! It’s so exciting when you find the one 😁

I’ve signed up to just married, mainly because I like the fact you can choose a wedding theme then order matching stationary (although they might all do that 😂)

I’ve got my eye on a pair from Charlotte Mills. However, they’re £260 and I’m supposed to be trying to do things on a budget so depending how much everything else costs I may end up looking for a cheaper alternative!
I’ve got these from asos I’m sure you could stick a bow on them and they would look similar 🤣

Slightly off topic but, I’ve just received the further details for a wedding we are attending soon. It is a beautiful little pack it contains a food choices card, directions etc. Then at the back is a card containing their account number with a little line that just reads as ‘no gifts just money’. Does anyone else think that’s a bit crass? (We we’re giving money anyways but, this just makes me feel a little uncomfortable)
It's a bit blunt :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We’ve decided upon asking for donations for our local dogs’ home because we genuinely don’t need anything. Those closest to me know I love personal/sentimental stuff like a photo with a funny line or poem. So I expect a few will do that alongside as it won’t cost much.

I know a thing or two about weddings as we had to cancel puts 4 times during lock down 😭
We got married legally in the pandemic and now have our wedding, new venue, different time of year next December ❤

I decided to buy a new dress. The original one cost £600 but I will sell it. It just wasn't right for the venue or the season.

Anyway i just wanted to say that I tried on loads of dresses at Wed2b ....off the peg.
Fell in love with one dress that was £599 and the shop assistant pressured me so much to buy it, and her boss and there was such an atmosphere. It was awful. They told me this was the last dress ever and I will never have a chance to buy it again.
Blah blah blah
Went on Stillwhite and have bought the exact dress for £150
So I would definitely go try on dresses at Wed2b and see if you can pick up the same dress for a third of the price.
StillWhite is a good reputable website.
Loads of brides have cancelled their weddings so you can pick up a dress which has never been worn for a bargain

Hey all!
I couldn't find a thread for anyone that might be planning a wedding that might need advice, or to rant, or just to find other brides or grooms in the same situation.
Post away!

I'm getting married August 2023 👰

My friend was just telling me to get extra copies of the certificate. We gave notice last week (legally getting married here, proper wedding abroad). They didn’t tell us if we can pay for extra copies but hoping we can.
You now have to order them all, you don’t get given a certificate on the day at all so you have to order them. You pay individually for each certificate so you can have as many as you like, they’re £11 each. We were able to have a commemorative certificate but it means nothing legally. I ordered 2 copies (1x next day delivery which actually arrived home before we did 🤣, 1x standard that has yet to arrive)

Anyone else stressing about their hen party
Just background
My job used to literally be to plan hen partys and stag dos, so I know they can be stressful to organise, I've had brides on the phone crying before because people have let them down etc.
I've organised a hen do for my sister in law and it was stressful enough getting money together etc.
So I just figured I'd plan my own, and I have all the ideas written down, I have the costs, I've got timings figured out, and I'm going to go through someone like go hen so I don't have to chase people for money (I ended up £120 down for my sister in laws because people just wouldn't pay or didn't show up last minute).
But my friends are adamant theyre going to arrange my hen party for me, and I've just got visions of them all arguing and stressing the way I have in the past 🙃
I’m not really having a hen party as such. My bridesmaids are my childhood best friend & my SIL to be.

I’m not really into lots of drinking or anything (I know I sound boring😂). So we are either going to go for a spa day or we will just go somewhere nice for a meal and a couple of cocktails. Plus my MOH is disabled, as is my mum and as they’re both coming, I can’t do anything strenuous, which is fine by me!

You’ve reminded me of that film “bridesmaids”..: can just imagine people throwing bits of cookie and kicking off 😂

I’ll be honest, I’m way too laid back to stress about the wedding (apart from worrying if covid will cancel it). I’ve never had visions in my head of a “perfect” wedding, weddings aren’t hugely my thing, but I’m doing it to marry my best friend. As long as we get married and we get some nice photos, I’m not too fussed about much else! I know most people would disagree though and I understand it’s very important to some people that every detail is perfect! 😁

Ours has cost approximately £60k but we have had to pay for 2 venues and 2 sets of caterers 🙄 That does include the honeymoon too (which I will desperately need after the stress of the past few weeks 😂).

I’m hoping we can get some back via insurance but we paid a lot of our deposits before we could take insurance, as most companies stopped offering new policies due to covid.

But you have to get a dress even if you're just a regular guest? Don't get me wrong, paying £250 for a dress you didn't choose yourself and won't wear again is way too much, but I'll be maid of honour to my best friend in may and I ordered my dress from Asos (and I chose it myself, no dress code or colour scheme), it was around £40 and I'll probably be able to wear again. She's also my MOH in july and she bought her dress that she chose in Zara for 50e.
You don't have to though, you can wear something you already have if you want. Making someone pay £250 for a dress plus shoes and hair that they have no choice on isn't fair IMO. For me, I do not want anyone to be out of pocket for something I am organising, I have stressed to everyone please do not buy a new outfit if you don't want etc.

If you can pick your dress and/or you have been asked if its okay and agreed etc then that's different, but forcing it on people is not okay.
