Max gives me weirdo controlling vibes but I think a lot of her Mental health talk & breaks from social media are more her wanting to come across as holier than thou rather than genuine issues

Here from Niomi Smarts's thread~ calling your wife a roommate whaaa, and um if you've been in professional kitchens for that long you don't need for her to watch a tv show to get what you've been saying.

She seems to really be struggling with her self-confidence and seems quite withdrawn in her vlogs - I do like Venetia and as far as content creators go, I really think she has her heart in the right place, so I hope she's ok. The tone and vibe of her vlogs are definitely quite different from the kind of self-assured content on her Instagram, but I suppose the latter is more curated anyway. Max creeps me out, he seems very intense but I don't know anything about him nor do I really follow his content.

She looks so different now, her teeth look too big for her head. She is very naturally pretty but she just looks ill at this weight. Just repeating myself now but I really hope she is getting help!

Also how busy is their kitchen that he'd ever need to use chef terms like that to make sure noone is in the way?!

I don’t know if I’m not getting it, but I’ve noticed a lot of ‘new’ things in her ootd clips. Fair enough they’re second hand, but there’s a lot of trend driven pieces which tells me she does seem to have bought a lot recently even if it is from bestiaries.

She’s just so unrelatable, of course a straight size rich woman can support buying so much second hand when it’s nice and not a 99p from oxfam on a shitty high street

I don't really understand what Venetia does all day except for doing some podcasts and preachy IG stories. So many of us are working full time and in really hard stressful jobs yet all it seems she does all day is perfect her coffee art and dance around in some old clothes. Whilst at the same time claiming how bad her anxiety is. I know we don't get to see her full day and anyone can have anxiety but she's got it pretty easy compared to most of us. It just infuriates me.

In her recent outfit story she says the shirt is ‘borrowed from my housemate..’…is this how she refers to Max or do they have a lodger?! 😂

Yeah I definitely got the vibe it was their only option other than long distance. I am a bit scared for Venetia, her husband gives me such weird vibes and she is so gaunt now.

I honestly think a lot of rich people feel guilty? Self conscious? about their privilege/wealth. Our society is fairly socialist and at surface level at least, values meritocracy and purposeful work.

100-60 years ago, a woman in Venetia’s position would’ve been quite proud of being a “lady of leisure” and faffing about at home would’ve been a symbol of status. Now it’s pretty derided and scorned at.

a lot of this shame/self consciousness manifests in social warrior behaviour in women, either that or they give up and adopt a hippy, faux bohemian lifestyle. with the guys, they usually become “entrepreneurs” and cash in on their parents connections/wealth until their business endeavour fails a couple of years later and they move into the next “project”. I know so many of these type of people.

It’s like the the more privileged they are, the more they need to overcompensate. The more they need to show they have purpose. Some people choose slavery and anti-colonialism a la Laura Trevelyan. Some choose environmental/humanitarian activism like Venetia.

I knew the daughter of Jeremy Lascelles, Amy, through an ex boyfriend. She’s 50th in line to the throne but has never really pursued a proper job, has hardly any money and used to have a completely smashed up iPhone because she couldn’t afford a new one. She’s been a PT I think, then turned to making (ridiculous) crystal jewellery.. she didn’t make any money and her boyfriend basically bankrolled her. Her parents bought her and her sister a holiday home in Cornwall that provided most of her income through renting. To legitimise basically faffing her way through life, she adopted this fake hippy, carefree lifestyle (she was in the documentary Prof Green did a few years ago talking about how harmless weed was). It’s all a total act to fool herself that she isn’t entitled, relying on her boyfriend and family wealth and to pretend she isn’t totally lazy.

At the end of the day, they are all just faffing about at home and not pursuing any sort of meaningful career. It’s a way to legitimise faffing about at home without being called out for being lazy. Venetia might post a shit ton and turn up to the occasional protest, but at the end of the day her content consisted of selfies, chatting aloud to herself via her podcast and making coffee in her expensive machine in her huge London flat/now huge country home.

she’s miserable because she has no real purpose in life. The fast fashion cause is great but, I suspect it’s not one she feels as deeply passionate about as she makes out. There are a ton of charities she could work for (voluntarily), and a lot of meaningful lobbying she could do behind the scenes. But that work is long, boring and not glamorous enough for insta.
long time lurker on this thread but just wanted to say I totally agree with everything you said here!

I think she’s probably a nice person irl & I find the whole Max situation worrying… but every time I see her stories, I find myself wondering about her passion for the cause. I would likely post about going out for nice dinners/on trips too if I was rich, don’t get me wrong. But as someone with a hell of a lot of free time from not working a regular job, she could easily volunteer several times a week somewhere like a charity shop, sorting through donations or merchandising stock. I guess a lot of anti fast fashion influencers prefer to stick to podcasting/content creation & doing collabs with luxury ethical brands because it doesn’t involve getting their hands dirty 🤣

Yeah I really don't understand the third person bit at the end, it's been put in square brackets with 'ID:' at the beginning?

Just completely getting away with being out of London for a month then!
It’s an image description so people who have visual impairments can still access the content (you highlight the text so you can find out what the picture is of, I think!). Although it looks like she only did it for one photo so seems very virtue signaling to me (she also now has put her pronouns in her bio).

Venetia reminds me of those memes about rich white women telling the rest of us off for buying something with plastic in instead of from her mates business at three times the price... like not everyone comes from generational wealth!

Her wedding really irked me - I cannot remember if it was one of her videos or a podcast interview (or both, pre-Max I was really into Venetia), but she harped on about how sustainable they tried to make it and then I realised that like, her parents are wealthy AF and of course they could afford to do it as sustainable as possible.

Just kidding, it was definitely a video because she had the flower girl wear her old dress from when she was a baby so that she wasn't contributing to fast fashion but whose parents have the storage or would keep a random toddler dress (that was probably expensive to begin with)? Like it was cute to see, but impossible to reproduce.

Her wardrobe seems never ending of items. She always seems to put together something completely new.
If I were to never buy new and go through my wardrobe I'd have enough outfits for a week and then rinse and repeat 🤣
Easy to be comfortable in not buying when you seem to own 100s of pieces.

100% she will, all influencers seem to act like the rules don't apply to them. I wonder if her sister and her husband and child also go? Agree it is superodd she is friends with someone like Niomi if she is as "sustainable" as she claims to be.
I also find her constant going on about taking "time off" social media strange, her whole career is based on social media yet she is constantly going on about how awful it is? most of us don't need a "break" from SM as we don't live our lives on it like she does
Just had a quick nosey at her sisters insta and she posted on stories that her and husband and child are isolating, so presumably yep they are all going to gather at the parents country home. You’re right, these influencers literally do not care about anyone but themselves. So entitled.

Agreed, I find the constant needing to go offline so bizarre. Like this is literally your job? If you can’t handle it bc it gives you major anxiety, then maybe you shouldn’t base your entire career around social media? I do agree that we should all limit our time on social media, but does she not realise most of us have regular jobs and don’t spend our entire day scrolling through Instagram? I don’t need to turn my phone off for an entire weekend 😂

Am definitely intrigued by what her deal is, I just don’t buy all her sustainability and activism given the privileged socialite circles she seems to come from. If anything she seems to have shaped herself to fit culty Max’s lifestyle?

she's just jumping on what is trendy, honestly please don't let her fool you she doesn't actually care! she's just like niomi smart except she's less dim and knows what to say to come across woke.
this is just some rich girl who is living off her parents and spouting whatever she thinks makes her look woke. it's all about her image, trust me, she doesn't care.
i think you can tell when people are genuine and want to dismantle capitalism from a non-selfish perspective.
and UGH i hate the way she keeps saying she's privileged without contextualising it, she just says it so people can't say anything about her. she doesn't use to do anything good and she doesn't bring it up in the right way, it's all self-serving.
i really don't like her, i especially don't like her cause i can see how she's got people fooled. she did a podcast with aja barber and she was such a white dick in it. basically asking aja to teach her what to say to white people about cultural appropriation.
if you care about systemic racism, you will do the research yourself and not ask a black woman for her labour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and if you want to speak out against cultural appropriation, do your research and understand it fully. but she doesn't because she just wants to look woke, without any of the effort.

i much prefer niomi smart, i think she's a bit more dim and well meaning. whereas venetia seems more sly and manipulative.
Could not agree more with you! Venetia or ‘Neesh’ as she likes to be called, only cares about mixing and being friends with all the right influencers and her Chelsea set from her old partying days. Oops turns out you’re going to struggle keeping up with your old fashion luvie pals, they wouldn’t dare be seen or photographed standing next to someone in Oxfam seconds!
Definitely moulds herself into whoever she is dating, has no real USP herself except for being able to talk non-stop garbage. She’s so preachy and woke.

Although Venetia may not flaunt that wealth, I've always found that even in her attempts to seem more down to earth, she can't help but show her privilege. She did a YT video about how she had her wedding sustainably and was like, 'we had it at my parents house and the flower girl's dress was one my mum saved that was mine' - proceeds to show an amazing home/backyard and a designer dress her parents had the money to buy her at the time and the space/care to preserve for years. Stuff like that makes watching people who are into sustainability just as much of a fantasy as the ones who flaunt wealth like her sister.

I’d probably add, that the plant based diet she follows (all whole foods, not much junk) you do have to eat a lot more of it to maintain a healthy weight. There’s no butter, cheese, no deep fried food in her diet.

It’s still very much possible to be eating meals like she showed but still be undereating. Especially if you are an active person. And it’s not like we are seeing everything she eats.

Side note: I find it slightly odd the way she talks about Max’s cooking recipes. She’s done this in previous videos too. I can’t explain, like you’re home on your own, surely you don’t have to look at his recipes online and then call him after to show him and explain what you made? He always seems to want to comment on her cooking too like an examiner. Maybe just me but get a weird vibe.
I take your point but I still thinking something is off. There is plenty of fat & carbs in vegan croissants, waffles & chocolate. One of my male friends lost a lot of weight after quitting diary so I get it’s possible but it doesn’t explain the weight loss given now long she’s been vegan & why she looks so thin. My friend is thin but he looks healthy not like a gust of wind would blow him over.

Also why does she make such a thing of it - her vlogs are what she ate with a bit of Sky & books. It just seems bit performative to me.

I could of course be overreacting based on my own experience.

Can’t reply comment on the Max thing, I think they are a bit of an odd couple, he reminds me of one of those guys that goes door to door taking about their religion, she seems more worldly or something.
