I love this thread. I have always believed in spirits/ life after death but I have felt my granddad's presence on a few occasions since his passing three years ago.

First instance was when I was staying with my Nana few months after he had passed away. I heard him call out my name. I didn't tell this to anyone but few months later my mum told me she too heard him calling her name when she was visiting.

Few months back my aunt had a dream in which my grand dad visited her and told her that he is happy to be able to meet his brother. Exactly a week later his brother passed away. He was not sick and his passing was sudden but peaceful.

I also had a dream in which I saw him with a little baby girl in his back garden (which was his pride and joy). Two years on my daughter looks exactly like the little girl from my dream.

I don't know if these experiences mean anything or are just coincidences but I like to think he is watching over us.

My mother died in 2016, aged 57 from oesophageal cancer. My mother wasn't in my dreams much before this but since she passed, she seems to be in the majority of the dreams I have. Sometimes, we even have disagreements! I genuinely awake feeling as though I have spent time with her. The thing is, in my dreams, I know that she technically "died", but there she is anyway. In my dreams, I get the sense that she died but she didn't die. It doesn't make sense but I have little desire to question it further in my dreams and go along with it. I often awake with disappointment that my mother has realistically died in this world and life as we know it but also some mild comfort and a feeling that I've met her again.
I dream about my Mam this way too 😊 I always dream that’s she’s there and we’re just doing the most normal things like shopping together, and I know in the dream that she’s dead so I’m really making an effort to enjoy the time with her. I always wake up feeling content to have seen her again, never upset by it. So sorry for your loss xx

Couple of years ago me, my boyfriend and another couple decided to rent a house together to save a bit of money. The house was in SW London, Edwardian style. Inside was beautiful , with modern furniture , plenty of sunshine coming in.. Anyway, during our first viewing it felt like a great & warm place.
After moving in we couldn't quite settle in, it felt like someone was constantly watching us, there were weird noises , I could see some movements with the corner of my eye, the other couple couldn't sleep at nights because they had a feeling that someone is tickling them.
Anyway, my best friend took some photos of the house to her family friend who is a medium and she has predicted lots of things in our life's and she can sense ghosts and stuff like that. When she saw those photos she said straight away - there was a couple who lived there before us ( the owners ) and they had a little boy who was very sweet, blonde, blue eyed little boy who looked like an angel. And she felt that something bad happened to that little boy in this property and he died, and his spirit is still in that house. Later on we managed to find our landlords profiles on facebook and after browsing through some older photos we saw them together with a little boy, just like medium described. It was such a creepy feeling. We still had to live in that house for almost another year because of the contract. It was terrible.. I felt miserable the whole time and wanted to get out of there. It was always very cold and creepy there... and that feeling that someone is always watching you and seeing movements with the corner of the eye..

I love this thread! When I first met my partner he told me about this old lady who used to follow him, she’d appear in his room, go everywhere basically. She had died in the house that he later moved into.

I have to admit when he first told me I didn’t believe him, until we had our son.

We were in the kitchen arguing one day and I was shouting at him for one reason or another and all of a sudden the glass on the kitchen side came flying off and shattered on the floor.

We moved last week and I came back in the house to find a packet of wipes on the living room floor with the letter ‘B’ spelled out on the wall that someone had written with a wipe so the wall was dripping wet. Nobody was home so there was no other explanation for it.

Weird!!

I just have a small story to add. After my second child was born I was really poorly and in ITU. It was kind of a near death experience but I had fast acting doctors and have made a complete recovery. A while after baby was born I was discharged home to my parents house for a bit if support and TLC and they had been looking after first child.

My dad recorded on his phone me bringing baby two into meet baby one and it was evening so dark outside. The video is so strange, there are lots of orbs, small ones, around me and they whizz around the room and in front of the camera. Some hover around my head and whizz around as I hug my older baby, others are stationary and then flick about

What's more weird as when I was really unwell I distinctly remember before it went totally Haywire a really loud voice in my head saying "just keep breathing now and don't stop" but it wasn't said into my ear as it was before how poorly I was had been picked up. It was familiar but I can't place it. Saw the light and everything after but a tonne of adrenaline and CPR got me back. Family and friends are convinced the orbs are angels, sometimes I just think my mums house needs a good dust 🤦
You’ve reminded me of my mum’s story from when I was born. Mum had a boyfriend, before she got with my dad, who was tragically killed in a motor cycle accident. Mum was very young and inexperienced when she had me and had a really long tough labour. When I was finally born I wasn’t in the best condition, an awful colour apparently, my head and face were squashed and bruised from the long labour and i had some initial breathing difficulties. Eventually everything settled down and mum was left alone to rest. She fell into a doze then woke suddenly to see her ex boyfriend standing over my cot, he looked at her and smiled and told her not to worry as everything would be fine. She said she felt really calm and reassured by his visit.

My Mother came to me in a dream (well it must have been a dream!) the night after my father died. He'd been an utter bastard to her for over 60 years so when she died three months before him my thought was that at least she was away from him at long last, however the guilt must have been too much and off he went to try to follow her :( My over-riding thought was that he'd gone off to spite her and ruin her peace.

I did not sleep at all that first night maybe worrying about him rocking-up there to ruin everything for her then make her miserable like he always did, but the second night I seem to recall waking -up (whether I did or not is questionable) BUT there was Mother in her nurse's uniform wearing her white sensible shoes and everything standing beside my bed with a big smile on her face. "Don't worry about him ruining my peace" she said rather joyfully, adding "THEY wouldn't let him in!" I knew then that she would be enjoying the afterlife free of that man at last and back with her parents who hated him for very good reasons :)
I'm delighted that "They" wouldn't let him in :)
I experienced something similar. My grandad died 6 years ago and I was really struggling mentally. One night I dreamt that both my grandad and nanna came to me to let me know they were together. They were both holding hands and smiling at me. They told me they were happy and to stop worrying as it was so nice where they were. My grandad told me I needed to speak with someone as I was falling into a pit of depression.

In the distance I could see my auntie and uncle who had also died when I was younger, waving and blowing me kisses.

I suddenly woke up once I'd got 'my message' but it felt so real. I rang the doctors the next morning as I knew that even if it wasn't my grandad talking to me, my head was telling me I needed to get myself sorted.

I've not seen any of them in my dreams since.

We’ve had a couple of weird things happen in our house since we’ve lived here nothing major. Things have picked up a bit since I’ve been pregnant and since our eldest daughter has reached the “Kevin and Perry” stage as I like to call it. Tv turns itself on, taps come

About 4 weeks ago I was in the bath and other half was brushing his teeth and literally he went so pale I asked what was wrong and he wouldn’t tell me at first (he hates anything remotely scary) then he caved and said he’d just seen somthing or someone walk from the kids room down the stairs. Nothing happened for the next few weeks
However, we welcomed our 3rd child a week ago. Morning we came home other half popped home first to get car seat (we live round the corner from the hospital) everything was fine in doors. We got home about an hour later to find a photo frame we’ve had hanging at the top of the stairs For around 5 years had been pulled off the wall with such force the clip on the back of the frame had been ripped off. Twice in the last week of being home I’ve also been slapped on the back aswell once in the bathroom and second time was on the top of the stairs.

not the most interesting sroty, but I have never worked out what happened. I was with a friend at home, my grandparents were visiting and stayed in a kind of granny flat at the top of our house, they were out, my sister and mum were downstairs, suddenly as we were playing my grandma's watch was thrown down the stairs to where me and my friend were. No idea what happened, never could work out any explantion, really bizarre. It wasn;t an old house or anything either.
Tbh a lot of these stories have convinced me I can only ever live in new builds
I was in a taxi with my mate and we were talking about haunted houses. I said to my friend I was glad I live in a new build, and the taxi driver said 'What about the ground it's built on?'. Thanks taxi man, you ruined my sleep for a week!

I love reading ghost stories, I found some good ones when Mumsnet came up on a Google search of them;

The first is from a family member who worked for the fire service for a long time before retiring, and they aren't particularly spiritual/believe in ghosts etc. Anyhow, he's on nights and his team get dispatched to an incident which turns out to be a false alarm. Kids just messing about, but they check it out and jump back onto the fire engine to head back to base. On their way back quite some distance they get flagged down by a distressed woman in a nightdress who begs them for help as her house is on fire with her children trapped inside. She runs ahead leading them down a pretty sparse residential area. The call comes in on the radio that there's a fire close to their location, by now they have the sirens wailing. The woman eventually leads them to the house in question and breaks into hysterical sobs outside shouting 'please save my babies!'. My family member and his team have to barge the door in, fight their way upstairs and in the only room they can access they find two terrified children huddled together. Outside it's chaos, a crowd has gathered as well as backup so the children get swept off to get medical attention whilst the team deals with the fire. Eventually when it's out and everyone's more dispersed, some time later they are able to get back into the property to assess the damage. In the second bedroom they find the body of a woman tucked up so tightly in bed she couldn't have moved, and must never have woken up as the fire was spreading. The children lived in their house with their mother, who matched the description of the woman who asked the fire men to save her babies. Sent a chill right down his spine and he's never forgotten it.

There are some others I liked, such as the story about the ghostly car who people were reporting crashed into a stretch of motorway, the police came and looked and found a car hidden in the undergrowth months old with someone deceased in it.

Also someone's boyfriend who is travelling up the motorway to visit her at uni and spots a girl in the back in a pinafore and pigtails with the seatbelt on. Then, the car doesn't work properly and they hear banging noises in the back passenger door. They take the car to a mechanic who says that the car was involved in an accident once.

Have a story from when I was in high school. Year 10 and around 50/60 of our year went on a trip to Prague. They visited many beautiful buildings and while standing outside this particular building they noticed it had a round window right at the top. One of my friends shouted what is that and they all looked up. There was a little girl up there and her head was tilted side to side with wide eyes like she was possessed. The history teacher noticed what was happening and told them all to stop looking. They enquired inside afterwards but there was no access to that room as it was a storage room/attic. The owners of the souvenir shop said there was no-one living up there. My friend to this day can’t get the image out of her head and the way in which the little girls head turned and how wide her eyes were. She looked disturbed and contorted almost. My friend is also the least likely person to believe in supernatural stuff but she said everyone saw her and her bodily movements and head tilting so quickly from side to side were not normal and scared the shit out of everyone including the boys.

This happens two years ago now - in 2017. I live in a newly built property and we (husband and I) are the first owner to move in. However, the land itself is old but so is everywhere really.
One night I woke up to the sound of ticking, like the sound of a clock ticking. Tick - Tock. In my sleepy slumber, I thought it was my alarm clock. But then I remembered that we threw out the old ticking analog alarm clock when we moved and brought the property. We have been living there for over 5 years. and got ourselves a digital alarm clock and it makes no sound.
Anyway...
I was laying in bed and I could hear quite clearly the sound of ticking. This terrified me and I didn't dared not move. I knew we secured the home, a routine which I do before bed every single night. I also knew it couldn't be the neighbours as the sound was coming from the bedroom. I also knew the neighbours recently moved out and no one was next door.
I just laid in bed listening to the sound of this ticking until it got light outside and the sound just faded away.
Weird.
The next morning I looked everywhere to come up with a rational explanation but none of our stuff makes a ticking sound.
Never heard it again and I'm still living here.

More spooky experiences:

The recurring nightmare. From a young age to about 12-13, I would have these recurring nightmare. And these nightmares will only ever occur at a certain point of the year. Can’t remember what part of the year now.

The nightmare goes where you have to be facing face down into the pillow and be sleeping, a man will come round and check on everyone and make sure you are facing face down. If he catches you awake or not facing face down, certain death will happen to you.

Nope, not making it up. To this day I have never been able to explain it. Tried telling my parents at the time but thought it was childhood imagination.

As it got older, the nightmare faded away.

__
My parents live in a fairly big house in the middle of nowhere. The village where the house situated is a 25 minutes’ walk away at the top of a big hill. The house itself is fairly modern and new, however, my parents were not the first occupant – just the second.

I have always been convinced my house was haunted. Always and I still think that. One night while sleeping in my bedroom (which was always the coldest room in the house), just lying there. Now I sleep on my side often curled like a ball. So I was laying there and the room was pitch black.

Suddenly the room went cold, sending a shiver down my spine. Out of nowhere, I felt a cold hand reaching on my back underneath my pyjamas. As soon as I notice it the hand stopped and the air went warm again. I sat straight up to see anything. Nothing.

I remember telling my friends at school the next day what has happened. They all thought my parents were playing a prank. But my parents are not the kind of people to do this. Never forgot it.
___

When I was in my teen, my parents brought me a bunk bed. I kept nagging for one so they gave in and let me have one. Trust me I was the happiest ever.

This where it went weird. Lights would start to flicker; the room would go icy cold when I climb into the bed. My stereo at 2-3am in the morning would go full blast. You would be sound asleep and suddenly my stereo would be blaring music at full volume. Often the TV and stereo would turn off. Things would move.

Yeah after 3-4 months of it, I got pretty scared and moved into another room of the house. Where I slept in a proper bed.

Tried telling everyone but they all said it was the wiring problem. I didn’t have before and I didn’t have the issue since. I would at night turn off the stereo at the plug socket – only to have it still blaring with music.

One night I got so scared, (and I’m a little shameless to admit to this) I wet the bed. After that, I never used the bunk bed again.

----
From a young age – to even now, I would hear my name being called in an empty place. Everyone would be out and suddenly I would hear my name being called. There be nobody else home. It started to happen at my parents’ house and has even occurred in my current home where I am now. Sometimes it so clear I genuinely would think someone is behind me. Nope, no one is around. It will be ‘Anna’ in a voice I am familiar with so I would think it’s my parents or my husband or someone I know. Nope.

I went an RC (roman catholic) primary school and I would tell the nuns about hearing these voices. They always said it was a voice from God and he is calling me. Somehow that never made me feel better.

___
My parents went on holiday and left me in charge of the house for the first time. I was mega chuffed. Gave me a set of keys to lock up the place if I needed to leave.

I invited my boyfriend (who now my husband) over and we decided to walk into the nearest village to get some foods supply. I had the keys on the coffee table and went upstairs to get my jacket. When I went back to get the keys – they weren’t there. Thought Richard was playing a prank but he was too occupied being on the phone. The keys were on the TV set. This freaked me right out as I know for a fact I didn’t put them there; it was on the coffee table.

Told Richard was happened but shrugged it off and thought I was imagined it. For the rest of the time, while my parents were away, I kept the keys closed to me at all time.

---
That my spooky stories. xx

new builds can be worse because they’re often built on land that ‘wasn’t meant’ to be built on 😂
I agree with this. It's not always the building, it's the ground and foundations that the building laid on, also. I'd imagine that the 9/11 memorial site is very very active with energy. Afterall, we are all energy and when we die, that energy doesn't just disappear.

I love these kind of threads, Ive had a few things happen but I'm not sure if I have told them or not.
There was a demonic sounding voice that followed me for a few years when I was a young teen I can type that story up if anyone is interested, still the most terrifying thing that has happened that I have no explanation for.
When both of my dogs passed I would often awake to hearing that tappy sounds their paws would make on the kitchen floor. I get anxiety at night at times and one night I dreamt I was asleep on my sofa really anxious and woke up(in the dream) to my my dog coming up to snuggle up to me. He had passed only a few months before and I was having a hard time that year. He gave me such comfort in this dream. After a while he jumped off the sofa and walked back out the living room to an open door out into the garden. I like to feel it was his way of saying goodbye and everything would be alright. I woke up feeling such peace.
Several years ago I was in a b&b in blackpool with my dad. I remember having the most vivid dream that there was a man in a brown suit hanging right where my bed was. I kept trying to wake myself up but it wasnt happening and I was so freaked out when I did wake up i couldnt stop staring at the spot I dreamt of.

My mother says she saw my grandmother clear as day around 3 months after she died. She told her that she was ok and no longer in pain and how she should stop grieving (my mother was finding it very hard after my gran died). My mother is almost embarrassed about it as she feels she’ll be mocked, but is insistent how real it all was.

As a slight aside (but related to the time zone thing), the concepts of time slips fascinates me (there are some accounts of time slips in Liverpool, which are quite convincing (if you believe that kind of thing))
time slips fascinate me too.

i will always always remember that episode of strange but true with the two couples who stayed in a remote pub for a few nights while on a walking holiday, thought it was nice but a little old fashioned. when they tried to go back the next year they found the building was just an old ruin.

if anyone used to read the digital spy threads back in the day there was an incredible story from a user there who, emotional after a break-up, went into a little cafe down an alleyway to gather her thoughts and found it all very odd and dated (in terms of what everyone was wearing, general style). she thought she’d left her coat there but could never find it again when she tried to go back. i’m missing a lot of the best details but it’s always stayed with me.

I work in a charity shop on Saturdays, on a floor all on my own. Yesterday I was there with no customers and….there was a ghost with me.
it’s a bit hard to explain but if I wasn’t looking directly where he was I could see him. I got the sense he was just pottering around and didn’t know I was there. It was definitely a man, in dark clothing. I didn’t feel at all scared it was just really strange and creepy. I kept looking over, despite the fact I was scared I’d properly see him and be frightened.
it was the middle of the day, really well lit uncreepy room in an old but not incredibly so building, I was wide awake and having a cup of tea.
I think he was an old shop worker just doing what he does every Saturday.
sorry me again but I’ve been thinking about this all day- I think what happened to me yesterday relates to Stone Tape Theory. I’d heard of it before but had an extra look….whoever he was, he was doing a repetitive action which seemed to be picking something up from the floor and putting it on a shelf. The whole thing took about twenty seconds and seemed to be on a loop every two or three minutes. He definitely didn’t do anything other than that and I wasn’t at all scared just freaked out but in quite a calm way.
Stone Tape Theory is that ghosts are like ‘video recordings’ of events picked up by the building often because of a traumatic incident but also because of the same thing being done again and again.

I've had quite a few weird experiences - in our family we think that something weird has attached itself to us, as we've all had experiences but never all at the same time.
The scariest experience was a few years ago. My dad desperately wanted to go on a cruise but had nobody to go with, so I said I'd go with him. We had a balcony cabin with two singles - his was nearer to the window and mine was up against the connecting wall where the wardrobe is on the other side.
I never ever sleep with the lights off (past experiences haha) but my dad hates sleeping with the lights off, so we just left the balcony curtain open to let in a little bit of light from outside. It was still quite dark but not pitch black, you could see the outline of furniture and stuff like that.
I woke up out of nowhere in the middle of the night, almost like I was startled awake, lying on my stomach. Looked over at my dad to see he's still asleep, and noticed that there's the outline of a person standing behind his bed. I can't even explain how it felt to be so terrified in that moment. My first thought wasn't 'ghost', it was 'somebody's broken into our room and I don't know what to do', except it wasn't a person. The shape of the figure was, and I could even barely see the outline of clothing etc, but the eyes were like a shiny, reflective surface. Sort of like the back of a spoon if you shine light onto it. It just stood there and I knew it was looking directly at me. For some weird reason, I checked the time on my phone (it was right next to my head but I was just leaning up out of bed) - 3:07am. I suddenly got the weird feeling that something really awful was about to happen, and it was about to move, so quickly switched the ceiling light on fully expecting to see a random person in the room (the switches are at the heads of the beds in these cabins).
Nobody there. Honestly don't know how I slept for the rest of the holiday or when I got home. Didn't even tell my dad at the time since he's really scared of that kind of stuff.

When anything big is happening in our family we see a ladybird. It started happening when my maternal gran died. We always greet it as if it's her 💗🐞
I went to a close friend's brothers funeral a while back.
He had a really troubled life due to struggling with both drug and alcohol addictions but in his final years had really sorted his life out and was doing well when he died.
Out of all her friends he had mentioned that i was the only one that ever gave him time and talked to him nicely.
His funeral was very sad - he died in tragic circumstances (nothing to do with his previous issues) and the small number of guests were mainly there for my friend.
As the service was being conducted I opened my order of service a ladybird flew out of it and buzzed around the mourners before landing again this time in my handbag.
It did bring a smile to my face as i could see him sending this to try and make us all laugh
