The other night I hung a picture (an award I won at work) up in my hallway, beneath was my daughters bike, she’s 9 so it’s a full size bike. Off we go to home bargains and when I get back I see the award (frame and glass intact) on the floor in my kitchen, a good few feet away. There’s no way it bounced off anything because I re hung it and about an hour later it fell again, this time breaking and taking the hook with it. And it fell straight down, behind my daughters bike and didn’t hit anything on the way down. My house is only 17 years old so it’s not haunted in the traditional sense but I did lose my Nan last year and I loved her so so much I am bereft without her to be honest. I like to think it was her being mischeiveous, tho she wasn’t a mischievous jokey person in real life so I don’t know. It certainly spooked me. There’s no way it fell like that, unbroken and several feet from where it was hung.

I have another story, off of my sister. Her house is super creepy and my sister saw various figures in the home. One day, her friend came over and popped upstairs to use the loo. The friend came down saying I didn't know your husband was home, I thought he was working. My sister said he was at work. Her friend said, then who did I see and walk past going in to one of the bedrooms and say hello to. Apparently, as she walked past one of the bedrooms to go to the toilet she saw a bloke turn into the bedroom and must have given this guy a half glance as she walked past him, assuming it was my sister's husband.

When I was about 16 or so, we had a family friend who was quite ill and lived alone with no family. She had 2 cats and was always worried what would happen to them when she died - my mum said not to worry and we would take the cats in (we already had one of our own).

Anyway, she passed away and we adopted the cats. About a week or so later, I was home alone in the evening sitting at my computer desk with my bedroom door open. Two of the cats were asleep on my bed behind me, and one was lying down on the landing outside my room. There were no windows or anything open in the house but suddenly I felt this rush of cold. The landing light started flickering off and on again, all the cats got up and starting miawing (but more of like a strange crying almost howling noise) on the landing.

Then suddenly it just stopped. The light came back on and the cats went back to doing what they were before. I am sure it was our family friend coming to check in on the cats and telling them it was all okay.

I love this thread! When I first met my partner he told me about this old lady who used to follow him, she’d appear in his room, go everywhere basically. She had died in the house that he later moved into.

I have to admit when he first told me I didn’t believe him, until we had our son.

We were in the kitchen arguing one day and I was shouting at him for one reason or another and all of a sudden the glass on the kitchen side came flying off and shattered on the floor.

We moved last week and I came back in the house to find a packet of wipes on the living room floor with the letter ‘B’ spelled out on the wall that someone had written with a wipe so the wall was dripping wet. Nobody was home so there was no other explanation for it.

Weird!!

I think she was taking it down knowing it was going to fall and break

I live in Australia, we just don't have all the really ancient pubs and buildings like in the UK. I'd love to explore all those types of things but I think I'd be pretty scared at the same time.
Please come to Edinburgh one day. It’s a different level ghostie-wise!

I lived in a very old house when I was much younger and it had a long winding corridor to the bathroom. It creeped me out in the day but I could just about cope as long as it was well lit and someone was close by (otherwise I went downstairs). I think I was around 6 at the time. Anyway, at night, i was way too terrified to go down there in the dark, but if the lights were on, I could see a cloud-like thing hovering in there. Nothing particularly sinister about it, but unfamiliar enough to make my 6 year old self too scared to go down there. I never told my parents because I used to think that they’d say I was being ridiculous and would force me to walk down there in the dark.

My dad got a job in another city whilst we were living there and that started a time of fun sleepovers with my mum and my sister…I mentioned this to my mum recently and she admitted that we actually had the sleepovers because she was so terrified of that hallway at night that when my dad was away, she would use her dressing table to barricade us all into her bedroom for the “fun sleepover” until it became daylight.

as a side note, we have lived in a different 400 year old house (with a secret room, probable priest hole) for the last 17 years and haven’t had any spooky interactions at all!

not the most interesting sroty, but I have never worked out what happened. I was with a friend at home, my grandparents were visiting and stayed in a kind of granny flat at the top of our house, they were out, my sister and mum were downstairs, suddenly as we were playing my grandma's watch was thrown down the stairs to where me and my friend were. No idea what happened, never could work out any explantion, really bizarre. It wasn;t an old house or anything either.
Tbh a lot of these stories have convinced me I can only ever live in new builds

new builds can be worse because they’re often built on land that ‘wasn’t meant’ to be built on 😂

I thought of another one that’s not ghostly but definitely a bit strange

One night I just couldn’t get to sleep, there wasn’t a reason for it - I just couldn’t shake off a really weird/bad feeling I had. The last time I remember looking at my phone it was about 4:10am.

The next morning, I found out my dad had passed away. He lived alone but when looking through his phone we found he’d been messaging some friends for several hours in the evening/late night that he was feeling seriously unwell. When I asked the police what time they thought he had passed... they said it probably sometime between 4 and 4.30 in the morning.

I am certain my brain knew something was wrong with him and that he was suffering, and wouldn’t let me sleep until he was gone.

Did the B happen in your new house? Who’s B?

I was in a taxi with my mate and we were talking about haunted houses. I said to my friend I was glad I live in a new build, and the taxi driver said 'What about the ground it's built on?'. Thanks taxi man, you ruined my sleep for a week!

I agree with this. It's not always the building, it's the ground and foundations that the building laid on, also. I'd imagine that the 9/11 memorial site is very very active with energy. Afterall, we are all energy and when we die, that energy doesn't just disappear.

If you haven't seen it watch "A Ghost Story". Brilliant film, it's fictional (I think!) but it will really make you think about what happens to somewhere over time.

Similar but not totally, my Dad also lived alone. I was due to visit him but something told me not to. I don't know why, I just woke up and decided I couldn't go that day.

That day he died. Had I gone there, me and my children would have found him. I'm certain he was asking me not to go for that reason.

Creepy right?

And this one is totally less scary. I had a dream once where i met 'myself' from somewhere else, and she told me I was her but from a different life, really odd. But she gave me some nice words and said i'd be back again and again, and that life goes on and on. And this life would improve. And it did get better!

Not a ghost story, but a spiritual experience i guess.
I've had recurring dreams about another "me" since I was a child. I call them my other world dreams. I'm a bit spooky anyway so it doesn't bother me at all.
