There's so much in the history of Art that was , in its time, ridiculed and/or denounced as "pornographic" or labelled degenerate art. DJ has not, as far as we know, left any literature on his artworks, so anything one reads into them can be right, or wrong. Or, as Gertrude Stein put it, "a rose is a rose is a rose".

You are right. I am an art lover as I have mentioned in the past. We have some investment pieces.
In earlier threads, we did have some opinions on his artwork and it was interesting to note via @Clara Burnett (I hope I remember correctly) that prior to the Diaries, many of his works stood covered in a disused corridor for years.

Personally, I do think the subject matter is ironic in parts and if I wasn't already familiar with the inhabitants, then I wouldn't be hazarding a guess at who he was portraying.

There were also some rather interesting discussions on daughters posing nude for famous artist fathers ( not saying she would or had) Perspectives have been given and some fun was had guessing the meaning behind them.

From most of the critiques, the overwhelming concensus was that many just didn't fit with the overall ambiance of the Chateau (although I could reserve judgement in that) They stick out like a sore thumb. Some suggestions were that a gallery like corridor would display better with a neutral background.

I enjoy a tasteful nude as much as the next person and have attended live art classes in the past. I also enjoy historical paintings which have hidden meanings. Every artist has his or her own unique way of producing their work.

I suppose for me, the idea of the tiles 'glazing of Derek's work'(which could be well done and to date yet another project not finished) was more akin to having porn in the kitchen. I honestly don't know how anyone could have had a serious discussion on it. Why did the other Co owners agree?

Anyway I must ramble on elsewhere and get back to work.

This is pure speculation on my part, but if MPK has/had substance abuse issues, could the anger be a result or something he tried to self-medicate for?

Suggesting marriage to her just shows he's NOT been listening carefully! She's said pretty clearly that she's not interested in marriage. She figured that out in her marriage when she was young, and she didn't marry Potts ... or anyone else ... she doesn't want marriage or children, and he should know that! I agree with you, it will be a surprise if he's there at Easter ... maybe even earlier ... maybe he won't even make it to Venice.

The sad thing is she doesn’t even want an actual career. Seems she just wants to travel and buy luxury goods. Not a bad gig if you can get it!

I was talking about Mary's flower studio but Stephanie definitely has the same issues. Living in a cold, mold filled château, making guests pay for it... Is a skill! Fascinating skill.

It certainly is! We have a damp basement with the odd mad teenager inhabiting it with friends. They consider their den cool. It's all in the mindset.

Nobody's scandalized by the nudity, throughout history there's been artists and clientele for pictures of naked women. What we've discussed here is how Steph wants to represent her father as a saint and how his paintings represent women as objects to his gaze, always frivolous, willing and ready. There's an undeniable pornographic tone in his paintings. There's more facets to her dad, that's all

Wow, I'm sorry. It sounds like we had somewhat similar mothers. Mine is just wicked- a narc in every sense of the word. So jealous of everything I ever did. I would call and say "I am doing this great thing , but it's small" - oh... well I will come see it when you are the star - ummm I don't think I'm going to be - her: well then you will have failed won't you? Just a horrible hateful person. 5 kids, only one grandchild - mine. Her only two VERY dependent children live in the same city - and she is ALWAYS trying to make others JEALOUS of each other - just sickening. Recently our daughter went to visit her grandparents- I said don't do something - she tried to back door it - I'm a little over protective because she was horribly physically, mentally and emotionally abusive to me... and when she tried that crap on my kid (she has been pretty good until now) I went.... nutty on the phone for about 10 seconds. And hung up. That was several mo the ago - I have been frozen out ever since. I mourn for the mother I will never have. I pray for the day it will all be over so at least - it will be over - its so freaking sad. All because someone is so twisted and will not seek any kind of help. Anyway- thanks for the therapy today !! Let's get back to gossip - much lighter subject...

Yes, the anger could be a result of a problem with alcohol. Alcoholism can cause aggression, agitation, compulsive behavior, self-destructive behavior, and lack of restraint. Can also cause anxiety, euphoria, and loneliness. We’ve observed a lot of these characteristics in MPK.
