Can anyone tell me how mortgages work?
We are looking to buy our first home but the house we are looking at needs some work doing and carpeting. Is it possible to borrow additional money on the mortgage to cover this or do we need to go down a different route? How are the funds released? Would it be to my bank or to a solicitor ?
Mortgage will only cover the cost of the house as per the home report. Anything else as well as any funds for offers over is your own cash. As far as I know the funds are exchanged directly through legal, as in - you don't ever see the money.

Our apartment complex has a policy of no clothes hanging on balconies. Tons of people in the complex don’t follow this rule and hang their clothes on street facing balconies. This area of the city is quite congested, so I don’t understand the purpose of hanging clothes in congested air.

Anyways, every time I go onto my balcony, it smells like detergent or softener. The smell is quite strong and unpleasant. I can’t spend 30s without being hit by the smell.

Not great.

I always have a read of Trustpilot. Then check if they have a physical (UK) address listed on their website. Always pay by credit card and/or Paypal then at least you have some comeback should anything go wrong. I've had a look at their website and they look legit to me.
Thanks, I had tried to find reviews an such on other sites, but twitter didn't seem to have many, am just worried they are cheap because of bad quality since what I want is a extra £100 on other sites an stores

Had this electricity problem in my home off and on for the last 5 years.
Sometimes the supply is fine for a year or few months and then the problem just starts up again without me doing anything different.
It overloads and the switch in the main box will trip. Previously when a bulb popped, it's own individual switch in the box would trip so I knew what the problem was. With this problem I have now though it's always the main switch.
I can't use my fridge as the electricity will trip after a few hours even when I have it on the lowest cool settings. I don't have a cooker but I suppose if I did the same thing would happen. It seems to overload the electric supply. It takes hours afterwards for my supply to be good enough to power any appliance again in my home and I'm worried for winter when my electric heaters will be on.
Even though I've not had my fridge on, days later the electric still trips, sometimes a couple of times a day, though on these occasions I can switch it back on and my small appliances stay powered (as long as no big appliances are switched on).
Its making me very paranoid thinking the electricity company are limiting my supply due to net zero. Bills have tripled, they're also helping themselves to hundreds of pounds from me under the pretence is for my benefit for when more electric is used in winter. I did not give them consent to do this.
I've recently had an electrician in who says he couldn't see anything wrong with the wiring in the house 🤷‍♀️ and I've unplugged everything and gradually plugged them in again but yet the same irregular but regular pattern of the supply carries on :(
Helllllllppppppppppp!!!!!!!

Oh I’m not saying it’s fair at all, just without the context it was difficult to know if they’d just blindly assumed you were fine absorbing the cost or whether you’d actually flagged it before. It is unfair and poor management, I suppose it’s up to you what (if anything) you’d do about it.

This is completely random but I really need some advice because I am stressed!!!
I went to the doctors last night due to extreme bloating. They did a routine pregnancy test which always comes back clear. The doctor came back and said “there’s a very very faint line. Very faint but definitely there” Believe me when I said I PANICKED. She made me do another and it was clear.

I did a home test last night and this morning. Both negative.
So, am I definitely not pregnant? Why did the first one come back with a faint line? Am I stressing over nothing 🥲🥲
maybe an evap line? Did you physically see the test? Which test brand did you use at home?

If they’re (coworkers/managers) are going to judge your ability, work ethic and results on one moment compared to the rest of your work history, well that’s on them. Go about things as normal. Sounds like your manager has already moved on. Do you have someone to talk to about your stress, though?
Not really. I am taking a few days off to recentre myself. Hopefully, it will help.

There's coolors which lets you generate random pallettes or you can type in a colour an it generates the rest to see what will go, or canva which I think shows random photos an gives the colours or you can upload your own photo or colourmind which is another generator

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but something happened today that has really worried me.

My dad came home after going out to visit his sister. He had called by a cash machine to lift money, but he didn't get the cash and said that the machine ate his card. So he calls the bank to cancel it, and then discovers his bank card is in his pocket.... he was absolutely insistent that he didn't take the card from the machine. It's all very perplexing but there are no other bank cards it could have been, so he must have taken it back from the machine. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance... he's 71 years old. He's smart and sharp in every other way, but can sometimes be a bit absent-minded. I just feel very worried by it.

Does he have a HR he could report to or higher management not within his workplace? Or tbh he’d be within his rights to call the police with random people turning up at his home address which he’s not given permission to or consented to his address being given out
Am not sure if there's higher management as it's not a care home that's a part of any health service, it's a private home, I'll check an see if there's anything higher but I assume it's been near the top that's handed out the address as employees files are usually kept by the higher ups, he's never giving out the address because he's said many times he doesn't want staff knowing where the house is, so it will only have been on his file

has he got a new online friendship group? Are you able to check his online activity? I can sympathise as the partners friend was very close to us and my son loved him and vice versa however he will not come round anymore as he believes I am haram. I actually see him comment things on social media calling them haram too🙈
I think I will look into what he's watching online. He knows no other Muslims I real life. He's such a lovely gentle lad. Think he's always felt like he doesn't really fit in.

Tips for minimising dust in your home? I just moved into a new flat in the city (as opposed to the suburbs) and feel like I need to give up work to focus on dusting full time. I’ve never lived anywhere with so much dust! There’s no building work going on nearby and pollution isn’t a huge issue….I have no idea what’s causing the volume of dust.
Do you have woodern floors? My house is constantly dusty but I put it down to a husband and two cats!

I heard apparently Florence Pugh at one point is riding him like a bucking bronco and then gets up and starts reading from the Hindu book of scripture… they apparently put a CGI dress on her in India
wait so he gets up, mid-ride, and is like “this has really put me in the mood for reading some hindu scripture”?! i want to see this movie now 🤣

Absolutely no excuse for this, I should’ve paid attention to what I was doing.
I’ve been caught speeding, 52mph in a 30 zone! They are taking me too court. What can I expect?
I have a clean licence, will I lose it?

I swear there used to be a fashion advice thread but I can't find it, anyway.... Has anyone ever ordered from Cider? I keep getting ads on IG and the clothes look nice but perhaps too cheap to be as nice as they appear?

Does anyone know the rules around CCTV/Ring doorbells? Mine shows mine and my neighbours front gardens/pathways. Is this legal? They haven't said anything about it and to be quite honest they're the reason I got one in the first place 😬

I have a strip of garden that I want to stone and put pots on. Random bits of grass come up on it, how do I prepare the bit of land to do this. Complete novice?!
You need to till the ground and then put down a weed barrier cover that will prevent any new growth. The cover looks like a black tarp.
