bit late to it as always but I’ve always held a grudge over JR because years ago I was selling cakes at an event and JR and kids swooped in, the kids made straight for the cakes and he loudly says “no, they are full of sugar!” I mean, they are (although my cakes arent the OTT frosting type) but it really pissed me off at the time because it came across as so condescending and I was just trying to make some money.

Re decent politicians. I have always had a soft spot for Ken Clarke, although I would never vote Tory. I remember reading he was friends with Gordon Brown and they used to go to Ronnie Scotts as they were both fond of jazz. Also used to quite like Gordon.Mo Mowlem definitely very decent. Claire Short is not everyone's cup of tea but she fought for what she believed in and took no tit. Barbara Castle, again fought for women's rights and stayed pretty decent.
And of course these days, hated him as a politician, but I think Michael Portillo seems a pretty decent sort of guy. I really like the way he is with the people he meets on his train journeys. Celebrated on May 1st 1997 when he lost his seat.

Portillo realised that he had been hole, and changed for the better. He admitted that he had had gay experiences at uni, supported minimum wage, and knew that it was no point being slash, and burn politician as he knew that the tories wouldn't get back for a generation unless they changed. Sadly, he alienated the people that promoted him, like Tebbit and Thatcher, and thus ensured Iain Duncan-Smith won the leadership against him and Ken Clarke.
I MIGHT have voted tory if Ken Clarke or Chris Pattern had been their leader.
Barbara Castle introduced stiffer penalties for drink driving and got a huge amount of abuse for it. She showed some of the letters she had received with one saying 'You've destroyed my darts team you witch'.
Me and my other half are very left leaning but have really taken to Portillo on his great railway journeys programme.
Has anyone seen the Sarah Vine article- the Gove stuff is clearly close to coming out. And Hancock clearly went cos he knew the email story was about to come out- nothing to do with the affair (or the hundreds of thousands of deaths he oversaw which is the real reason he should’ve resigned)

I'm sorry, but could he not have waited a day, until the child had woken up? I've thought he was creepy since that interview of him standing wayyyyyyyy to close to the poor lady interviewer, but he really seems to be a piece of work.
