I couldn't even imagine my parents spending this much on my education
It went to a good comp and managed to get a 2:1 from a Russell Group. I’d be furious if I were her parents and paid so much for education for Ruby to be the way she is. She lacks all the character private schools are known for instilling.

does anyone know what her parents do? I knew that they were wealthy but I didn’t realise they were THAT wealthy. To put both of them through private school at £28000 a year is crazy. That’s nearly my year salary!

I understand how that assumption was made, just saying that since the video itself was posted I think it's important to note the comments and then halt the conversation if the assumption is wrong

What’s funny is that Ruby can’t even pronounce academia correctly, whenever she embarrassingly bangs on about “dark academic” she pronounces akadaymear. For someone who loves English lit, her writing and pronunciation is atrocious. Don’t get me wrong, mine isn’t great but I don’t bang on about books like she does 😂
Honestly my pronunciation of stuff is shit too. I found out at the ripe old age of 24 that epitome isn't pronounced epi-tome but epitomise 🤦🏻‍♀️

My problem is that I read widely as a kid but never heard the words out loud so pronounce them incorrectly because they're stuck in my brain with the wrong pronunciation lol.

I didn't recognise her at first! She looks stunning! I'm all for vintage fashion but I don't think it really suits her. In my opinion though!

I think there are way worse things she could be doing, but it can be a little silly. She’s done quite a few of these lookbooks by now. She definitely enjoys dressing up and playing characters. I think she should have studied Drama instead of English literature. That seems more suited for her.

I love the blue stripey Miss Patina dress but if I went to work wearing that and pigtails and a boater hat my colleagues would be having words with me. I think the long pigtails look does not help Ruby seem her age at the minute.
Miss Patina clothes are really expensive for what they are. I bought a few pieces and sent them because because their sizing is odd and the quality doesn't reflect the hefty price tag

I’m not an English student but I study a subject that is heavily about reading and independent work like English degrees are. But I’ve never in my life done 11 hours in a day. I wouldn’t have the mental capacity to do that, the only thing I would say is that sometimes reading can take a long time if you are a slow reader but ruby obviously isn’t. My lecturers say that the average time studying for each module should be between 4-6 hours per week outside of contact hours - so even if you did 6 hours a day (the maximum) and take 6 classes then that would be 6 days out of the week (36 hours) which is miles less than what ruby does. I think she just makes more work for herself but doesn’t effectively study
Yes it's like my friend who was studying medicine. She was at the library doing 14 hour days to study for her exams in first but she actually ended up failing them. Probably because she got burnt out. Meanwhile my friend who is hard working just not insanely so got straight As in the exams and he was baffled as she did more studying. It's probably because he went in there with a better mindset.

I agree Ruby would be a bit much in seminars. I bet some people just read the text, underline some quotes and jot down a few ideas then come up with more on the spot as they discuss the book. Ruby is too rigid, I imagine she has set notes prepared.

Her morning routine video is bizarre for so many reasons?

1. It's a video from when she was at uni... but she moved back home. And she hasn't mentioned that on YouTube yet? Surely that makes a big difference to her routine?!

2. Chugging down a whole glass of cold water first thing is such a classic eating disorder move

3. also weird to wash your hands as soon as you wake up?

4. Courgette porridge

5. the music from 5:30ish onwards is such a weird choice hahaha way too dramatic, a shame because the rest of the music seemed like a great fit

6. Why does she call it a year seven rucksack? More child pretending?

Also her flatmate Blakeney seems super sweet... I hope she hasn't left her alone in Exeter...
THIS!!! oh gosh i think the same about everything.... 1. yup, i'm assuming it's an old video, but anyway she could have address that she's currently in different circumstances AKA at home? number 3 and number 4, all the hand washing and the courgette porridge...good Lord.....
6. about the backpack, yeah, she said it's the same bag she used in year 7. apparently last year she bought a kanken but it's not big enough for all the supplies she wants to carry to uni so she went back to her old rucksack

how i mean HOW was that video a productive morning routine?? she woke up at 6:30 but she didn't start to do proper uni related work until...what? 9 AM? well if you tick off from your to-do list "wash your teeth", "make some tea", etc. it's definitely productive...
also i agree with you about blakeney, i could not stop thinking about her and how she might feel now that ruby went home so suddenly? ruby still follows her on IG so i'm assuming they're OK but i wonder if she was left alone or if she travelled back home as well...
i guess their idea of "tea time with blakeney and ruby" is more than over now which is kind of sad (i don't drink tea and i'm not interested on it but i thought it was a very sweet moment for both of them!)

It’s okay for her that she’s in the position where she can afford to move home. But for the majority of students like myself it just isnt an option and it’s shit for the rest of us who have to stay at uni because they’re in a higher tier and have contracts for rent. It’s just not fair that Ruby can do what she likes, leave the flat mate and move back home because she’s scared even though she’s only in Tier 1!! She should have stayed and got used to it, just carry on like everyone else. You can’t just run home when things are tough even though you might want to, I just think it shows how immature she it
I feel legitimately sorry for those who can't go home - I'm currently in Wales so on lockdown when my family live in England, as is my little brother who is only 19, so I truly do feel sorry for people who can't go home.

However, the point still stands that you have to do what's best for you and I'm not going to criticise someone for doing what I can't do right now. We have no idea of the struggles going on in her life and with her mental health so I just won't pass judgement.

I first found her in 2017 and was a bit weirded out by how fixated on Hermione she was…how to be like hermione when you’re bored, how to be like hermione at the beach, how to be like hermione on a plane..the way she made her voice sounds so much like Emma Watson’s as well, the rest of her family’s accents sound very different.

I do feel she’s matured from doing Hermione impressions since being at university but I still think she’s insecure and still trying to find an identity and seems to be putting up a kind of persona to her viewers. No hate on how she dresses but she still looks very much like a schoolgirl sometimes.

She has definitely lived a sheltered life and I agree that she’s going to struggle a lot outside of an academic environment that’s structured and it’s odd how she said before she liked school better than uni. She was head girl though so I suppose that might have something to do with it? She does have a better support system than holly gabrielle at least.

I was quite surprised to see that she has moved back home as I thought she looked really happy with her flatmate!
Maybe there’s more to it? Although it would fit her previous behavior of needing to be home as much as possible but still ... I hoped she’d enjoy this time being “forced” to stay away.

Doesn't she work with a management? If so, shouldn't they guide her about those kinds of contents? I totally agree with the poster above who said maybe she thought it would be a great opportunity to "help people", in the most naïve way possible.

What do you think Ruby should do to improve her confidence?
Its hard to say, she has led a very sheltered life and not had to ever struggle or do things for herself and I think that has made her very unconfident. I think she should try and stop avoiding things that cause her to worry, bc the more you avoid your fears the worse they become.

Haha oh man, it’s not like “academia” has vowels that tend to differ in dialect (like the a in bath, glass, past etc. or the dreaded scone/scone debate). She probably says acaDAYmia to sound fancier but just looks silly.

Yeah I agree, everyone is being a bit harsh.
It’d be weird if she actually lived in the house she owns and moved out of that to live with her parents. All she’s done is love back home whilst classes are online. Not everyone is that fortunate but I know if I were in her shoes I’d be considering it.

I think it’s unfair to judge based on speculation. As far as I’m aware we don’t know the true reason she’s moved back home. Has her housemate moved back home too and she didn’t want to be alone? Is she not enjoying spending most of her time in her house alone/only with her housemate? Does she have a health condition that’s she not disclosed (which she doesn’t have to) so is playing it safe?

I’m certain some unis were not allowing people to enroll unless they were paying rent somewhere. she could have been stuck renting somewhere knowing her classes were online and not being fully committed to living there during a pandemic.
Also, she could have been promised in person teaching when she moved in only to have that pulled away from her at the last minute, as has happened at a tonne of unis

I feel this!! I’m so not confident compared to others at my uni I’m definitely the student who has done all the reading and has loads of ideas but is too scared to say them, you can definitely tell who wen to private school and who is middle class because they are usually the ones who talk loads and suck up to the lecturers. My uni is quite “posh” if you wanna say that and there’s loads of middle class private school students and I feel so intimidated by them coming from a working class state school background. ruby definitely is that student who talks loads in seminars - her privilege is so obvious and she doesn’t really seem down to earth at all
Definitely got this!!!! I have a few friends who went to private primary and even at 23 it’s actually astonishing how differently they view themseleves and their abilities. If I have the money I definitely will be paying for my child to have a lifetime of confidence.

I half thought she switched courses because she felt like with RS she didn’t do as well as she wanted so tried english to ensure she graduated with a first (I don’t doubt she’s academic), and part of me though she might have wanted to redo first year to try and make more friends 😂 (I don’t follow her closely so don’t know how many uni pals she’s actually got)
I had a similar thought to this too. I wondered if she just wanted to drag out university for another year as well.

However, I think it's more to do with her being rejected by Oxford. (In my opinion at least) I think she was so certain that she would be attending Oxford that she couldn't see anything past it. That's why she didn't take to study English straight away because she was disheartened, understandably.

I think she's definitely handled it well now and now sees that it's not the end of world that she didn't get a place.

I think it did her good as I feel like she needed to fail in order to grow and learn as a person. Nothing stopping her applying for a master's there however.

I just watched the dark academia video - so basically all you have to do is study, wear a shirt and jumper and listen to film soundtracks ??🤣 but it is so annoying how she says academia, and why does she go on about how great knowledge and learning is - like isn’t that the point of being in education, you don’t need an aesthetic to tell you that

Ruby wouldn't have been old enough to vote in the EU referendum, as she only would have been about 16 years old in 2016, and you had to be 18 years old to vote in the referendum. Maybe her family voted Brexit though, so she didn't want to address it.
It's easy to be 'non-political' when you are benefitting hugely from the current system.
