I’m in two minds about her moving. My family and I live in spain, but when lockdown happened I was at uni in a different part of spain to them, so I had to stay in my uni flat and tbh it was fucking terrible lol. Like it is so hard to be on your own in a lockdown, so I do understand why she’d want to go back to her family. However, on the other hand, the lockdown in the UK is so different to what we had in spain which was total confinement, no walks, no nothing, police and army on the streets, getting fined if you leave the house and no travel between regions so I couldn’t even go to my family. There was literally no way you could get round it, so in that sense considering how much less strict the lockdown is in the UK, especially if its only tier two in exeter, I don’t actually have too much sympathy for it. Plus its a bit peak to leave the flatmate all alone, but then again everyone copes differently so I dunno

For me, it's the fact that the study tubers who I have seen talking about it such Ruby, Unjaded Jade and Jack Edwards all did their A-levels and exams under 'normal' circumstances. They are also all from privileged backgrounds and most likely wouldn't have been impacted as much if they did A-levels this year. For once, why can't they sit back and acknowledge it's not about themselves. Interestingly, those three all seemed to say roughly the same thing which makes me wonder if their management told them to say it (considering they're all managed by Sixteenth).

They should’ve said a generic good luck and left it at that. You can’t compare this to normal times at all. Has eve Cornwell said anything on it? She’s the same management so would be interested to see if she did or not

Is it just me or she's look better and more her age with a proper hair cut? It's nitpicky but I think that her hair makes her look even younger, it's sort of an awkward length and it doesn't seem like it's been cut in ages. Of course maybe it's just because we're in a pandemic and she hasn't been to the hairdresser in a while to avoid contacting the disease.

I think her mother cuts her hair, I got a feeling that it's a regular thing rather than a pandemic solution but I'm not sure. She has gorgeous hair imo but could do with some better cut/styling, even if she wants to keep it very long.

For some reason you made me think of something. I notice that she would always say that was really bad at 9/10 years old and she was hard to control. Her parents would have obviously told her this. Something tells me that something must have happened at that time which now results in Ruby, being overly studious and having this toxic view of productivity. She's a good child now because she can control her, studying allows her to be in control (which is good) and I think that there's a possible fear that if she is not in control, she'll be a bad person, she'll be 'reckless.' So, now she wants to live those younger years because she can control them and be the 'good version' of herself. She can re-write that history, in her eyes. Bullying does come out of misunderstanding (I say that as someone who has also been bullied from primary school- secondary school) while, it could be seen that was bullied from studying too much, she wouldn't see as such, because she would question the type of person she is, her true nature. It's like when someone knows your family for something but you don't carry that trait of what they're known for, so they begin to question their identity. She was known by her family for being this 'bad child' and she was doing things that opposed that, but people picked out the bad things, so she questioned if she was a truly good person. But it kept her sane so she continued to do it anyway. Also, the pedestal of Oxford. Notice how Oxford is known for making elites and elites can be perceived to have ultimate control of their lives, in addition to the beauty and other things that oxford brings... It would somehow be to her that she is 'good' enough , she can be seen as 'good' in the eyes of those who she wants to be like and wants to impress, a bad child would never get oxford. She's not hung on this anymore (at least to what we know) but I'm using this as an example to express why she might have done some things.

am I the only one who thinks she looks alarmingly small here, she’s not big normally but she looks a lot smaller than usual

Its really not that bad, there was a spike around freshers week obviously but its dying off now and nowhere near as bad as some other uni's. The uni is really on it with testing too, can get private tests the next day and results in 24hrs. Exeter is only Tier 1.

If Exeter is only in tier 1 then why did she need to come home? Northern unis have it so much worse - I wasn’t back at uni a week before I had to isolate because my flat mate got coronavirus. And I can’t go home because my home town is in tier 3. I haven’t seen my family or friends this whole time so ruby should be thinking herself lucky - and she could have just stayed at uni!!!

Has she no longer got any in-person teaching this semester now? I know some unis have gone fully online but I didn't think Exeter was as bad as up north?

edit: oh I see from Instagram she's signed up for remote teaching. Well, I can't criticise her for that to be fair. I hope her housemate is ok though.

I love Ruby and I'm really impressed and inspired with her work ethic. One thing I can never understand tho is how she manages to film these "productive day with no sleep videos", when I have a sleepless night I'm literally a zombie during the day. I must be really out of shape to have my whole day ruined if I don't get my sleep lol

Literally everything she does has to be "productive" though. I really think it wouldn't hurt her to relax a little bit and take a break more often (Holly Gabrielle as well) without having to necessarily check it off on a list, especially when she hasn't slept the night before. I don't always think she leaves a very good impression. At least she's stopped doing the 14 hour study with me but I still think she focuses too much on being looked on as this very productive person she's created. I like the video she did on self-care as I think that showed she's come to realise the importance of it but she still needs to learn to relax more and stop scheduling herself so much. It's good she's seeing a therapist and I hope these things get brought up.

I could see Ruby as a primary school teacher, maybe even a good one if she didn't fall too much to the strict teacher side because that's her Victorianised idea of teaching, and I think she would be good at encouraging a love of reading, but she'll always have negative associations with high school due to her own experiences not fitting in.

I could see her teaching at her old school. I know she talks (a lot) about being bullied etc but I still think she would go back to somewhere familiar. If her school teaches nursery/younger children I could definitely see her doing that.

Other than that I think she will stay with her youtube channel and use her platform to publish children's fiction and maybe be a speaker in schools about bullying.

I mean, there’s a poster there who was oddly obsessed with her, and even made an odd comment that she shouldn’t show the quiet areas in Exeter she went to because she’d be inviting...something bad to happen to her. I’m pretty sure someone was trying to prove a point.

I noticed on thw Harry Potter study video that she just uploaded, she’s reading “Fasting Girls”, a book about the history of anorexia nervosa. Not sure how this would be relevant to her life right now, other than if she would be struggling with anorexia? But my experience has been that reading that type of content could be triggering if you’re struggling with an eating disorder.

I mean thats not even true? Touching a surface which has been contaminated with the virus is a transmission route, you can literally google it. I’m also a pharmacy student and some of our lecturers are working with covid right now and they’ve literally told us that it can be transmitted from contact with surfaces. Regardless of how uncommon this way of transmission is, obviously we cannot sanitize every surface that we do touch -and sometimes we can’t avoid touching things, but running your hands all over a load of books in a bookshop when you have no intention of buying them is irresponsible during a pandemic.
