I'm in the same region as Exeter, and it is pretty bad there

Its really not that bad, there was a spike around freshers week obviously but its dying off now and nowhere near as bad as some other uni's. The uni is really on it with testing too, can get private tests the next day and results in 24hrs. Exeter is only Tier 1.

i usually watch Ruby's videos while i'm studying or something as background noise. however, i recently have not been tuning into them, as it just makes it feel really weird that she isn't actually at uni anymore, and that her videos are so old. it feels so much better to study with a recent background video, or even just to watch a recent one. im not sure if im making any sense, but with her uploading videos where she isn't even in that part of the country anymore confuses me. i watch a girl on youtube who has a second channel for 'older' vlogs which did not get uploading on time or for another reason. i also find that if i was ruby, and i kept uploading old vlogs i would get annoyed by how un-organised the channel would be, due to videos being at different times.

Yesterday she was using crutches in her Instagram story which to me seemed a bit odd. In the UK, from my experience, as soon as you have stopped using NHS supplied products (crutches, wheelchairs etc.) you’re meant to send them back. Obviously due to COVID-19 this may have changed but it either means she went private (nothing wrong with that!) or her family have bought a pair of crutches which are just waiting to be used (which seems a bit strange). Maybe I’m reading into it too much?

However, to go from being on crutches one day to walking fine the next is very strange.

Yeah I picked up on the crutches thing, she was using them when she hurt her ankle the other month and I think she went private then because she was going to get seen quicker. Pretty sure the barcode/hospital stickers were on those crutches in her story yesterday so I don't think she owns them BUT I thought you had to return private equipment as soon as you stopped needing them too?

Ruby is clearly struggling with her exercise routine - like her studying she takes it to extremes. In the same way studying for hours on end has impacts on mental health, over exercising is dangerous for physical health. I think she tries too hard to be perfect and wants the ideal productive life, but it’s simply not possible and most of the things she does are unproductive. When she injured her ankle it seemed like the end of the world for her that she couldn’t exercise. Then she said the physiotherapist said she should start cycling to heal. Now let me just say, I have a life long condition with my ankle and have seen many physiotherapists before and I’ve never been told that cycling helps relax the injury. I am convinced she made that up as an excuse to exercise - but it looks bad on the physio and for people like me. I could never cycle when I had bad ankle sprains/ flare ups. The way ruby wants to exercise so much that she would lie about something like that - she clearly has an issue with over exercising

I’m definitely enjoying her videos more recently.

Further to what a previous poster said...If she’s writing a book I don’t think she’ll struggle to find a publisher. She’s got a sitting audience ready to lap it up and make some bigggg money for the publisher. I’m assuming her writing is good and of course if it’s not she might struggle but I bet the fact she has a fanbase, she’ll be fine. This sort of shit annoys me because it’s so hard to get your stuff published and who wants to sell their soul and put their life online (not bloody me).

Anyway hope she can continue to diversify her vids. Far prefer her to jade/eve/jack right now...

Same! I much prefer her to other studytubers especially as she seemed to have calmed down the constant study days. Now she actually shows going out with friends and stuff her content is a lot better

Is it just me or she's look better and more her age with a proper hair cut? It's nitpicky but I think that her hair makes her look even younger, it's sort of an awkward length and it doesn't seem like it's been cut in ages. Of course maybe it's just because we're in a pandemic and she hasn't been to the hairdresser in a while to avoid contacting the disease.

Her morning routine video is bizarre for so many reasons?

1. It's a video from when she was at uni... but she moved back home. And she hasn't mentioned that on YouTube yet? Surely that makes a big difference to her routine?!

2. Chugging down a whole glass of cold water first thing is such a classic eating disorder move

3. also weird to wash your hands as soon as you wake up?

5. the music from 5:30ish onwards is such a weird choice hahaha way too dramatic, a shame because the rest of the music seemed like a great fit

6. Why does she call it a year seven rucksack? More child pretending?

Also her flatmate Blakeney seems super sweet... I hope she hasn't left her alone in Exeter...

In fairness to Ruby she's 20 (21?) and living away from home during a global pandemic. I know some people might be completely fine with doing that but for others it's actually not ideal, particularly if your mental health isn't great (which Ruby has said hers isn't before). I'm a 24 year old student doing my second degree and I'm homesick sometimes despite having not lived permanently at home for years. It's also worse at the moment because I went home during lockdown (the first one) and so now have to readjust to being alone again (I live alone).

I'm in the exact same situation! 24, doing my masters, went to live with family during lockdown 1 and am now back in my own flat. I really don't fault Ruby for going home, especially since she's quite immature and I think being at home might help. She's an anxious person, I'd rather she went home if it helps her be less anxious.

Yeah idk I may be speaking from my own experiences but both me and my sisters (I'm 25, they're 19) literally moved continents when we were 18 to go to uni. Some of this was of necessity as our parents lived in a country with no unis but we also made the decision not to go to at least the same continent or country. With COVID we had a small window to get "home' but we all decided to stay put and now couldn't even get to our parents if we wanted to. The thing is we've all spoken openly about the mental toll of lock downs, isolation and quarantine but what our parents have been really good at is supporting us from afar but also encouraging us to seek out support services where we are. We all know that when bad things happen we can't just fall back on home as an option, and I totally get with Ruby there may be other things happening for her like mental health or her flatmate leaving but I really do think she's missed a big opportunity to gain resilience and independence. She could have gained the psychological help she needed in Exeter etc etc and beyond all it would have taught her that she's capable of a lot more than she gives herself credit for.

I just had another idea: maybe there was an issue with the house? I remember her constantly saying how cold it was and her room didn’t look as nice as her previous ones? So maybe that also played a part? Seems really weird otherwise especially as she only lived with one other person

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with discussing her maturity levels on here, it is a discussion thread after all. I couldn’t imagine Ruby having a relationship (or a sexual one at that) or imagine her in a workplace when she’s posting videos of her prancing around her garden in a Coraline costume. Good for her doing whatever makes her happy but we shouldn’t forget that she is a 20 year old adult. I feel like people let her off for her naivety (especially the Government paid ad) because we see her as this innocent little twelve year old but she deserves to be held to account just like the rest of the influencers we criticise on here.

I feel this too, I think its fair to call out anyone whos being overly unkind for no reason but I don’t get the point in coming on here and being defensive of ruby just because someones said shes immature, bc realistically its true, she does act a lot younger than her age.

I’ve always read Ruby as being quite fake and two faced, I think it comes across quite clearly when she does her whole fake cutesy smiling to the camera, pulling her pigtails.

it was also really clear when she was in her second year at university (first year of English Literature) and she recorded her fuming at the noise her housemates were making as they chatted.

I remember saying on GG that her scowl and expression were reminiscent of a petulant child, not a 19 year old second year university student

I can imagine ruby staying in academia, maybe trying for a masters at Oxford. Then becoming and academic and lecturer. Either that, or a teacher at her old school.

I could see her doing an MA in something like Children’s Literature and then going into publishing or editorial work - she reads a lot of YA and juvenile literature so she might as well embrace that and study it too. I can’t see her enjoying a PGCE beyond the study aspects, and I don’t think she’d like classroom practice at all. As for an academic career, you need a massively thick skin to go down that route as it’s endlessly competitive. Lots of MA and PhD students think they will have an academic career but the reality is very different!

That's interesting! I think it's more obvious with Ruby because she's very pedantic about pronouncing every sound clearly - e.g. she very rarely drops the final or middle 't' sound in words which is associated with more relaxed accents.

I see the comments of the video are full of young people who can't afford the planner or their parents can't afford to buy it for them.
