Yeah definitely, she needs to get some hobbies to do instead. What will her life look like when she works a 9-5 and can't take work home with her?

I remember in an earlier uni video (I don't remember which one because I only just discovered her and binged all her videos) she said she was struggling to fill up the day with work. Probably because you're not supposed to work for 11 hours a day! I mean that's more than full time jobs! The nature of degrees is you have extra time to do uni work/socialise/have a part time job. I guess since she said that she has discovered the wonders of taking notes on Kindle and then Notion and discussing uni with her flatmate.
I’m quite like ruby in the sense that I like my own company, don’t go out much and spend a lot of time studying. But I don’t make work for myself like copying out notes in different formats!! There comes a point where you need to have some downtime. It doesn’t even have to be a hobby of involve socialising but just having a few hours watching tv or something. I’ve always got top grades and I’ve never worked more then 6 hours in a day. With ruby everything has to be scheduled and strictly timetabled, in one of her latest videos one of her tasks overran for 20 minutes and you could tell it stressed her out like crazy. You never see her just watching tv or doing something passive, uni work is supposed to be fun because you enjoy the subject but it becomes a chore when you make it all encompassing in every aspect of your day

She said in an old video that her hobby is studying. While I can relate to that, doing a hobby for 8 hours per day is just going overboard. You can like cooking as a hobby, but once you cook for 8 hours a day, you're getting to the point of not being enjoyable anymore. You can have other hobbies as well lol.
I wonder what her professors and classmates think of her. I have some Ruby-types in my university and they are usually insufferable fake-woke "intellectuals". Every time one of them open their mouth to speak everyone just inwardly rolls their eyes and groans.
Does anyone know if Ruby has ever mentioned if she can drive? That's something a lot of teenagers long to be able to do, but I have never seen her behind the wheel nor mentioning that she has driven herself anywhere.

I don't think it's overly usual not to, I was 24 when I passed because I didn't need a car when I was 17-24.
I’m sorry but this is actually nuts. Who schedules in something relaxing like watching YouTube? That just defeats the whole purpose of relaxing if you’re more bothered about ticking something off a list. Also, does she just never watch a film or binge watch a TV series?

Why only half an hour aswell
I have tried schedules like this before and it’s not possible to do. If you go over by 10 mins it’s really stressful that the timetable is ruined. It’s much better to have a general idea of what you are going to do like 2 hours in a morning, 2 hours in the afternoon and stopping working at a certain time. Timetabling every minute of your life is not healthy and doesn’t allow for any down time that isn’t strictly scheduled

Possibly for helping out on open days and other uni stuff? My uni required me to do one when I became an Ambassador (not sure what they’re called at Exeter). Just a guess though!
This list stresses me the duck out. It’s so regimented it’s scary tbh. Just list things you want to do in priority order and go from there Ruby

That timetable makes me sad in that context and I hope she’s ok. She also said she’s been struggling since going back cos of covid anxiety, it could be a way of dealing with it.
Anyway I hope at some point she can enjoy the other parts of uni like slobbing around the house with friends avoiding your assignments. Then finishing it at 4am. Not that I ever did that of course.

I don’t think this will ever happen. Especially not since Blakeny (spelling?) seems to be quite similar.
One of the reasons why I would never live only with someone doing the same subject as me. It’s nice to be “forced” to talk about something other than my subject.

I knew someone who also just lived with one other person in uni and they really struggled to make other close friends. I think if you’re naturally not outgoing (not a criticism cos I’m the same), it can be hard, but living with more than 1 person could have helped that. Obv I have no idea how many friends she has at uni.True, but I live in a similar type of area to Ruby (rural), and it was pretty much essential to learn to drive at 17 if you wanted to go anywhere spontaneously, as public transport in these types of areas is typically every 2 ish hours. Unless she has very understanding parents who are willing to drop everything to take her places, or she only ever goes to places (which require a car) with her parents...
Im 19 haven’t learnt to drive yet because I don’t need a car/can’t afford it. But ruby has enough money to do so and it would be better for her when she travels home often. It doesn’t make much sense because most people who can afford it would have learnt to drive by Ruby’s age.
I learnt to drive at 17, couldn't afford insurance for a car (was quoted 2k) and was going to uni not long after anyway so there was no point in buying a different car, not that I could afford that anyway. I didn't get my own car and start driving properly until I was 22 (am 25 now) and out of uni with a job. If I had a car at uni, I'd have had to pay for a parking permit as not a lot of uni housing comes with parking and I only know of one other person who had a car and that was because she was studying teaching and needed to get to placements.
My brother is same age as me and passed around the same time (when we were 17) but only started driving again this year (at age 25, we're twins
) due to confidence issues related to driving. He lives with our parents in a very rural village with only 2 buses a day so did rely on lifts but they've always been very understanding because of his anxieties with driving. He's starting to drive more now and I'm so proud of him.Theres a lot more to learning to drive than money and being able to afford it, theres the confidence needed to drive and we all know Ruby isn't the most confident.
Also travelling home by train most weekends is probably cheaper in the long run when you consider the cost of a car (insurance, petrol, servicing, MOT, tax, parking permit, any fixes it may need)
to be fair to ruby, she actually got 75, 85 and 95 in her seminar participations (i was also surprised, i must admit it, you can take a look at it in this video)
i know that she has a very odd system for making notes, however with those grades, i think she must have made very acute observations to her professors, what do you guys think?
