We can go wrong with an antique shop!
Knowing Ruby she would steal all the info you gave her, block you and then use it in her content pretending she did research herself. That’s what actual Ruby is like.Hello, l’ve just discovered your thread which I’ve read with interest. I’ve watched some of Ruby’s vlogs and don’t know what to make of her. I discovered her when she made a vlog on Venice. She seemed to be there alone. As an art historian with a specialist interest in 18-C Venice I dm’ed Ruby with information and photographs and she did not respond, not even a thank you. I’m not sure that she’s as sweet and charming as she makes out. She also appears to be a bit of a loner. Does she hang out with many friends in ‘the city of dreaming spires’?
I’m hatching potential Masters thesis topics in my head atm and the idea of a projected readership, as portrayed through social media, is one I’m considering. It’s so fascinating. There’s a whole chapter’s worth of stuff to be said about everybody filming themselves crying over A Little Life, for instance.I was watching the latest Mina Le video about booktok and she mentioned an interesting concept - reading scene (a curated photo of a book within a physical space) which Ruby does constantly. Not to say that this is a bad practice per se, but when you're a MA student you might think Ruby would have something more to say rather than just show off her pretty books with occasional quote or AI generated paragraph. Ruby cares so much about the 'reading scene' to seem intelectual and productive that she misses the substance of what she is actualy doing in Oxford - studying early modern literature and how books come to be.
Mina was also talking about books as 'book-objects', something that Ruby was crazy about, but Mina actually managed to have an original thought and describe the notion as it relates to the modern readers. Ruby just gushes over this concept with no substance or analysis.
I think she really thought that she was really a hard-working academic intellectual at heart, but that she just needed the right environment. Kind of like some people (me) think if they lived in a bigger and nicer place, they’d like vacuuming. Alas, that’s not how it works.I wonder if it's a case of the fantasy of the place and experience being so hyped up in her mind that the reality was a big let-down?
It's likely because there's dirty dishes visible in the background shots and she wanted to jump in to casually insist that they're JANUINELY from the same day and HONNASTLEEEE haven't been there for days/weeks/months. She thinks calling attention to it and just lying will fool people into thinking she's being transparent. In reality, she's just a slob and far too lazy to tidy before filming.Just started watching the new video and I already have a question: why on earth would you include a close-up of your dirty dishes and put it in your video? What's the point?
Ruby has now referred to both Blheyknee and Hawlee as 'one of the brightest souls'. Maybe they'll fight to the death with the winner receiving the title and a lifetime supply of shite planners.Term is over and we are off to look at paintings high up with Basst Frand Baloney!
