I wouldn't be surprised if it was the North Devon location. She's already somewhat familiar from family holidays
This would be even more hilarious, since her parents own two cottages in Devon that she could've stayed in.

Good for ruby for getting out of the bedroom but I do wonder why she is actually going to a retreat other than trying to look like a serious writer. Isn't her home basically one? Big house in the middle of the countryside where she can take a lot of walks, the only difference is that her house is messy and that she does her own cooking instead of the meals provided.

I don't see her going to the courses or really interacting with the other writers as she wouldn't want to be with anyone who is better than her.

Also she's already had a holiday recently to apparently help with her writer's block and she's on a retreat. It almost feels like a sign that the writing isn't for her if she's having to take holidays to help her.

Also has anyone seen the tiktok about spending her birthday alone? She pulls a cupcake out of a green suitcase and puts a candle in it and is trying to look reflective and admire the countryside but she looks like a lost child who got abandoned on a picnic.
Yeah, and to put this in perspective even more...

One half of these images is from Ruby's home/back yard, where she has free reign, zero responsibilities and an abundance of free time.

The other half is her on a writing retreat which she paid £500-1000 to go to.

She has no interest in writing, let alone improving as a writer, so she'll get nothing out of it that she wouldn't have had at home.

And, sure enough, she's shared another piece of writing from the trip, and it's yet another of her interchangeable, shoddily-written "JARRNAL ANTRIES" about the weather and foliage:

She got an English degree, went on a writing retreat and is off to Oxford, but still hasn't figured out where full stops go in quotations.

Oh god, her writing is such utter crap :D "Lengthening afternoon" - an afternoon is the time from 12 to 5 or 6, it doesn't vary. "The beauty of space" - space is literally nothing and you can't see it, idiot. "Wooden stepping stones"? The "wood is peeling" on the gate - how? I've heard of paint peeling. What is "unconnected" space?

So many words and none of them amount to any meaning.

Thread title suggestion: "Ruby Granger #39 Just me and the geese"

I’d imagine she’s got it off the back of the Son de Flor sponsorship she had recently. Let’s face it, Ruby’s audience is also unlikely to be dropping £140 on a skirt or £200 on a dress either, but it’s all the same aesthetic.
I used to want one of those Sondeflor dresses so much, but could not justify the price. Since the pandemic I learned how to sew and I can make dresses. I've found a shop who could sell me nice coloured linen fabric for 13 quid a metre, and a dress typically needs 3-4 metres depending on design, so I could make a similar dress for around 52 quid, still is still rather pricey, but linen is anyway. Compared to Sondeflor prices though, much better. They became popular for their aesthetic on Instagram though, and I suppose cottagecore influencers and followers are happy to pay the large price.

When you think of the value of all the things Ruby has been gifted over the years, it is a shame she looks after them so poorly. Her whole wardrobe looks crumpled and musty.

I do wonder how much money worth of products has Ruby been gifted over the years. I reckon that it must be in the thousands now for what she has been gifted just this year, especially with the amount of clothing that she has. Have you noticed though, that despite being given all these clothes, she repeats a lot of the same outfits all the time or wears stuff that is from her mum or is from when she was a teenager. I've seen her wear a few of the things that she's been gifted every now and then but most of it, must be shoved in the wardrobe.

Do you think that Ruby is going to try and have her diaries published? I don't know why but I can see her trying to do that, especially with how much she posts a rather private object online. I don't know if her actual diaries are like that, as she is choosing a persona to write in for the content that goes online , one that is so the awe of nature and attempts to be poetic, knowing that she is going to post them online. For me, it is like she is trying to get into the writer persona and this includes her diaries being full of purple prose about her connection with nature. I do wonder how accurate her diaries are in reality to what she posts online. Sorry for the ramble, I've had to do a bit of reading for university on the use of diaries as historical sources and I've done some reading on diarists adopting personas to write in and how it impacts them as primary evidence.

I think her motivation in keeping a diary is purely in anticipation that when she's a POBBLISHED AWWTHOR, people will want to read all her diaries and correspondence. She probably thinks it's all HIGH LITRACHA already.

She’s a clothes hoarder and yet still gets gifted a tit ton of clothes, doesn’t matter how sustainable the dresses are, she’s still contributing to over consumption by accepting gifts she doesn’t need. She’s a major hypocrite. Not to mention she recycles the same 5 outfits so I don’t see the need for her to have so many clothes.

I can see her doing that, especially as she is rather a bit full of herself when it comes to writing as she thinks that she is rather profound when it comes to her observations about the world and her story writing especially with the echo chamber of praise that she gets. I'm not sure if I would want to read the ramblings of a constant teenager though, being honest, as what does Ruby really have to say about the world or society that is that meaningful ?

I always feel when Ruby writes, it is little of substance and it is more just points and lines which are going to be quotable and will perhaps make it to a good reads page. I don't know if I get that impression from how she writes or that she spends an awful lot of time memorising quotes and reciting poems and she is wanting to do the same with her work.

The JAAARNALLING and LATTER WROYTING all just seems like part of her half-assed Emily Dickinson imitation.

It's clearly a pointless exercise as a diary. There's no personal reflection or any unique events detailed. She won't be able to pick up any of these entries in ten year or so and be able to look back and remember the days depicted in them, since they're all identical. Every entry is just:

"The sun hung high on the canvas of the sky today. Clouds screeched through the sky like Icarus with burning wings. The magenta-green haze of sunset lit the infinite afternoon with endless urgency. Drifting mists drifted driftily across the fields, seaguls spiralled toward the heavens and buttercups danced with weightful aetheriality. October has sprung forth and brought with it productivity."

It's all meaningless drivel. Nobody else is going to find anything but comedic value in any of it, since it's all so forced, badly written and usually incoherent.

i feel i have a confession in regards to Ruby preparing for her masters early. I started my project (we don't have a disertation we have to write a film script over the spring/summer) literally in December. This I don't recommend because I ended up changing my idea when I was already a few pages in to the first idea I had. I prepared a lot for the project way too early sooooo definitely don't do that. I also didn't have to send a proposal until literally last week.

Just realised she has the same posture as quaver omg
I feel like this is going to be a new nickname for her now. Ruby the Quaver xD

At least you'd actually started your course by then. It might take a completely different shape to what she's envisioning.

With her Spanish journalling, there's nobody to check her writing for grammar and vocab so how the hell does she know whether it's actually accurate Spanish? Lol at her saying she wants to "get her fluency back up", you are not fluent after doing a language at A-level.

The last person from the UK I saw pulling a cupcake out of a suitcase was Mr Bean but in his case it was hilarious.

I can see her publishing her diaries and people thinking that they’re satire, sort-of like a Gen Z Adrian Mole.

Especially when you haven't used it or studied it in 4 years. There's a reason language certifications expire after a few years and it's not just because the certification bodies want to make more money lol. I don't think she understands what fluency means.

Re: the journaling, I think it's useful bc it forces you to use vocab and grammar you may not use otherwise, but you either need a good level of grammar, so you're unlikely to make mistakes, or you need some way of checking your work, otherwise any grammar mistake you make just gets cemented in your brain and it's harder to shake it off once you realize it's a mistake.
But obviously Ruby can't make mistakes so that's not a problem

She got an English degree, went on a writing retreat and is off to Oxford, but still hasn't figured out where full stops go in quotations.
If that's what she thinks is good enough to publicize for thousands of ppl to see, I cringe at what she normally writes. It's full of illogical nonsense and forced poetics. And it's just so boring and MEDIOCRE. You couldn't tell she reads hundreds of books a year with that writing quality. It's like something I'll write in 2nd grade: "I'm sitting in the green green grass, and the grass smells good. I see a dog happily running around, so I am happy too. There is a cloud shaped like a dog in the sky too. I love dogs."

The "that is all" at the end cracks me up. Like "that is all" she can muster from her tiny brain and her diet of 1 gram of imagination.

Her over-preparation and busywork reminds me of what she did prior to her Oxford interview. Jammed everything into a binder to study and memorize, then blanked out on the word "brine."

Yeah her diaries will probably make it into some anthology of 'influencers of 2013-2025' and it will be a comedy genre. Like, 'remember those days when influencers wrote poetry and journals and read them out to us on videos?'
